13 Wks Pregnant with Twins - Showing???
Name: Kap | Date: Apr 25th, 2005 11:06 AM
[ Original Post ]
I am presently 13 weeks pregnant with twins. This is my first pregnancy. I'm not really showing at all. In the evenings I look more pregnant probably becasue I'm bloated but in the morning my tummy is pretty much flat (when I suck it in)! I guess everyone is different and will show at different times but should I be worried that I'm not showing yet being pregnant with twins??? Thanks!!

I don't think you should be worried. You should be greatful! I too am pregnant with twins. I'm at the beginning of my 10th week. Just this weekend, I ballooned! I was wearing my jeans on Thursday and am in maternity pants today. (This is my second pregnancy) If you are concerened you can always talk to your doctor, but I would just wait it out. This is the hardest part of pregnancy. You know they are in there but you can't see them or feel them! . But, I'm sure in about 3 months you'll be wishing you weren't showing!!! Good luck and have fun!

I am 13 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy but 1st pregnancy with twins. I have been showing since about 11 1/2 weeks. I wouldn't worry about not showing yet. If you go on pregnancy galleries you will see the difference between people when they show and when they don't. Good Luck and congratulations?

Just a quick question for you twin mom's to be. Which side of the family, if any, did twins run on between your side and your partners side? My hubby says that since his mom's dad was a twin, there is a possiblity of him getting me pregnant with twins. It is kind of an arguement between the two of us because I thought you could only have twins if it ran on the mother side.....Very confusing.

i'm pregnant with twins and they run on my mom's side of the family...

For Stephanie, if you have having identical twins then it may be his fault. But it's usually the woman's doing if they are fraternal...since we are the ones responsible for releasing two eggs.

Fraternal twins run on the mother's side. The dad doesn't have anything to do with it... though he may like to think so. :-) Identical twins just "happen". No one knows why the egg splits.

It's not uncommon for women to show later with the first pregnancy especially if you had morning sickness and lost some weight. Your abdominal muscles are still tight as thy've never been stretched before. I bet you'll be showing very soon.

I am also pregnant with twins and I am really showing. This is also my first pregnancy. I am a very petite girl so my doctor told me that is why I was showing right away (this is before we knew about the twins). Be thankful, I have already had to buy maternity clothes....but all in all I am very happy!

I am currently 14 weeks and I am already showing as well. I started showing when I was 10 weeks. I started shopping for maternity to clothes a month ago. There is nothing to be scared of. My doctor saids that everything is alright. So, I stopped worrying about my belly. As long as you and your babies are okay you should not worry about it either.

My Grandmother on my fathers side was a twin. What is the possibility that I could have twins?

Were any of you twin mommy's to be on clomid?

Name: Melissa | Date: Jul 24th, 2005 8:28 PM
Lauren, I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant with twins as a result of clomid. I have one daughter as well as a result of using clomid because I never ovulate on my own.

Hi, I am also 13 weeks with twins, my second pregnancy and hardly showing in the morning. I am sure I was bigger with my first baby. I suppose you worry about everything - being too big or too small, and twice the worry for twins. I am sure we will be wishing we were small soon!!!

With regard to tiredness, I am also so exhausted (13 weeks with a 3 yr old) much more so than my first pregnancy. A friend of mine suggested accupuncture to try to boost energe levels. Otherwise just resting as much as poss. :)

I am 11 weeks no twins, but the same thing for me. I am petite and in the morning I am generally flat, but by night I look pregnant. I have asked alot of people and it is a sign and very normal. I can put my jeans on in the morning, and thery're snug, but I can't KEEP them on by the late afternoon or evening. It's normal.

My SIL didn't start showing until around 20 weeks with her twins. It was her first pregnancy. I would have never guessed she was carrying twins b/c she was so tiny. I think everyone is just different. Good luck!

I am currently 28 wks pregnant with twins, first pregnancy, and still people say that I'm not very big for twins which is quite annoying and can cause unnecessary worry. But I have had the ultrasounds and their is definitely two in there and they are well and that is all that matters! At 13 weeks I wasn't showing too much, I really wouldn't worry at all.

Hi Heather, I was reading through so many stories about bloating and bigger bellies at night. But now I feel more at ease, it's true I feel bigger at night, but the past two days in the morning, I really look smaller. It scared me, and at night I get a little bigger but generally less than I was used to seeing the weeks prior.

my grandmother had two sets of fraternal twins and my father is one of them. my husband and i are trying to get pregnant for the 3rd time. it has always been a dream of mine to have twins without having to go through any assistance. am i capable of having twins?

Name: Twins4Me09 | Date: Dec 10th, 2008 3:50 PM
marblu-it's always a possibility. Twins don't run on either side for me, but I'm definitely carrying twins. I've heard that it's more common for twins to run down the maternal side than paternal, but anything could happen. I've seen several posts from 'natural' twin moms/moms-to-be, and the stories vary greatly...some had twins everywhere in their family(s), some, like me, had the first set of twins in both families (maternal/paternal).

Twins, fraternal at least, tend to run on the maternal side because a hyperovulation gene is inherited which causes the female to ovulate more than 1 egg at once. If twins are seen on the paternal side, the gene could have been inherited by the father, but of course is silenced because he does not ovulate. This is also why twins can be thought to skip a generation, because if the woman inherits the gene from her father, he obviously was not affected by it. So, a man with a family history of twins is not more likely to father twins himself, however his daughter could be likely.
