i wrote this question in the multiples section because i was reading about the possibility of twins or more ... that is what started me crying :( i know the chances are slim but we are physically and emotionally and financially unable to do more than one baby!! .. i know they tell you that it's a very low percentage but what i heard is that there is a HIGH percentage but doctors dont make that public because of the fear of people abusing the medicine :( coudl this be true? ... please tell me otherwise!!

I was told the chance for multiples is somewhere under 10%. Don't let my username start any more panicking for you. I was on injectible drugs when I conceived my triplets, however I have known several women who conceived high order multiples on clomid. Drug companies are required to publish actual study results. They can't lie about the percentage of multiple births. You might want to ask your doctor if you can have an ultrasound to check how many follicles you have before intercourse. If there are more than you're comfortable with you can cancel the cycle. Good luck!

Ok. Personally I think that they need to come out w/updated figures regarding multiples & clomid, but I did concieve twice while on clomid - the first time was with a singleton (but I miscarried at 10 weeks) and the second time.. well hence my username. My doctor had told me that there was very little chance that I would conceive more than twins. That said - when i concieved my singleton I had more mature follicles than when I conceived my triplets. I believe I had 8 mature follicles when I conceived my one baby and then only 3 follicles when I had the triplets. I know you are worried, but relax - anxiety also plays a factor in being able to get pregnant. NOT THAT I SUPPORT/OPPOSE this - if you did get pregnant w/more than 1 there is always the option of selective reduction - (personally against it, but it is something that most doctors will make a woman who gets pregnant w/HOM aware of.) Good luck! Oh.. with the clomid I just followed the doctors orders - take it at the same time every day!!!! - expect - hot flashes, severe mood swings, weepiness!!!!

Why are you so worried, hon? What exactly about the clomid is freaking you out? I had 2 wonderful pregnancies using clomid (a singleton and a set of twins) and unfortunately, I lost a pregnancy early on in between those two. I required clomid for all my conceptions. I took Metformin as well and I took Robitussin to help with CM. I was told that the chance for twins was around 10% for those that don't really ovulate on their own (which is me - PCOS). Out of the 3 pregnancies, 2 were singletons and the last was the twins. The only side effect that I had was hot flashes big time when my dosage upped from 50-100 mg. I had no trouble going from 100-150. I was a bit moody as well. I wish you luck. I think that there is another thread on here that is TTC with clomid right now. Take a look around. Let us know if you have any other ?'s.

thanks everyone!!! well .. you are freaking me out more! the only three people who replied to my question have multiples ... a set of triplets and twins! ... and you dont want me to freak out!! :( sadly i am freaking out more and more each day ... what is scaring me is the side effects .. not the moodiness and hot flashes .. i can take those ... i meant in the long run :(

Well, you know the risks you take with clomid. I already suggested getting an ultrasound to make sure you don't have more than one or two follicles. I'm not sure what more you're looking for.

All I can really say is that Clomid is really the first step in fertility treatments. It's a good place to start. If you have a Dr. that is mindful of the side effects, you should be fine. I never had any other severe side effects (other than having twins, but I count that as a blessing). The only other suggestion I might have and this is totally between you and your Dr. is that you look at taking the Clomid on different days. From what I hear, taking it later (days 5-9) is less likely to produce multples. What are the other side effects that you are worried about?

I am worried about cancer!!!!!!!!! and of course miscarraige! ... i read most of the women who take it miscarry once or twice ... plus she gave me 6 days and not 5 ........ she is getting a call from me today ...

Name: Freckles | Date: Apr 23rd, 2006 1:09 PM
I think if most women had miscarraige drs wouldnt be so keen to give it out.
I took clomid 50 mg from cd 5-9 Im now on cd23 I think I ovulated cd 19
I know a few ladies that concieved on the first round on 50 mg and never miscarried at all...
My side effects were headahces while taking the pills so only for 5 days, and I have very weird dreams while taking the pills. Id say definately worth it.

I think the risk of cancer goes up if you are taking it for more than 6 cycles. I needed it exactly 6 cycles for both of my successful pregnancies. I think that there is confilicting info. on m/c with clomid. The reason behind many people taking clomid is due to annovulation or very irregular cycles. The causes behing this are what I believe usually factor into a m/c (just my opinion). I also think that b/c women on clomid are charting and know their cycles so well, they are aware of when they become pregnant within those first few weeks and if an early m/c were to occur, they already know they are pregnant where the rest of the world might just assume its a late period. My m/c happened at 6 weeks and that is before many women know they are pregnant. I have heard that if you take clomid later in your cycle (again, days 5-9 vs. 2-6) is produces healthier eggs and not as many. The earlier days give you more eggs, but maybe not the greatest quality. Talk to you Dr. definately and if you are this scared, maybe this isn't the route for you.

Just wanted to add that 1/5 of all "known pregnancies" do end in m/c. It hurts like H*E*%@ (emotionally), but it is the truth. and risk we take when we TTC. Again, I think it is percieved as a higher # with those on clomid b/c we know so much sooner that we have concieved.

Name: Liezel | Date: May 2nd, 2006 1:28 AM
Hi sweetestchic. I am gonna start clomid around May 10th or whenever AF arrives. I am currently taking provera to bring AF. I'm 26 and my DH and i have been TTC for about 10 months now without any success. I am gonna be on 50mg on days 1-5. I realize that a lot of people say that if you take it early in your cycle then you could end up with more than one baby, but that doesn't bother me. I am ready to be a mommy and i hope that may is gonna be the magic month.
**BABYDUST** to you and keep me posted. We can probably keep each other company since we will be starting clomid around the same time :-)

Name: Twinmom2be | Date: May 2nd, 2006 3:08 PM
I took clomid 50 mg cycle days 3-7 and conceived twins my 1st round. I knew the odds and I did not think it would happen but it did. My friend also took it and is now pg with a singleton. We are very excited about our upcoming arrivals. I wish you luck but I just wanted to let you know that there is a good chance of twins.

Name: Twinmom2be | Date: May 2nd, 2006 3:12 PM
Oh, I also did not have any side effects from the clomid.

Name: sweetestchic | Date: May 2nd, 2006 4:33 PM
ok I will create a new thread here .. I will call it (Starting Clomid first week of May) .. see you there AFTER CD1 .... ok? Let's stay here for the time being :) As for the chances of twins .. at this point .. I feel centered and I have prayed and have enough faith that God will send me the number of children that He knows I can handle .. be it one or two or three or more! .. all I wish and hope for is health ... :)

Name: Liezel | Date: May 2nd, 2006 5:15 PM
I'm glad to see that you arn't so scared anymore. You just have to believe that God will never give you more than you can handle. For me personally... I wouldn't mind twins.... it's the triplets that scare me. Our bodies just are not designed to carry multiples like that... so it does make it more of a risk for the mother and the babies. I just hope and pray for a healthy baby or babies. I'm sure that whatever the outcome you and your husband will be happy.

Yes this is my first cycle. im really hoping that it will work. I pray that your syptoms are b/c your preg. i didn't know so many women had issue when it comes to trying to conceive. I felt so alone and sad and confused at times, but now i feel like god has things to happens in his timing, and it always works out to be the right time.

Name: hannah1981 | Date: May 21st, 2007 3:38 AM
Hi I just finished taking the tablets on Sunday. I took them for 5 day. It was not to bad. i thought it would be a lot worse. I had a few hot flushes and was quite tearful on the 2nd day. and thats all. I understand that everyone is different. i think it helps having a good partner helping you through it. Dont worry i was scared at first but now i just n a waiting game to find out if it works. Keeps your fingers crossed for me.

Hi All. My DH and I had been ttc for over a year and a half. Finally decided to go the clomid and IUI route and conceived the first round (50 mg days 3-7). My only side effect was that I had a headache a couple of times. I took it just before bed as they told me it would minimize the side effects. I was tracking my ovulation for the past eight months and seemed to be a textbook ovulator (day 13-14 everytime) so I don't think I really needed the clomid. Anyway... I am an identical twin myself but never thought I would have twins. Well... I had my first ultrasound a couple days ago and there they were. Both are the same size and both have strong heartbeats so I am hopeful things will go well (I am only at 8 weeks). I am excited. Not only for myself but for my babies as well. Being a twin has been the biggest blessing in my life. Good luck to all of you!
