Please don't think I'm horrible -
My husband and I just started trying to get pregnant. I was away for a conference and didn't drink the first night because I knew there was a possibility I was pregnant. During the second day, I noticed some blood when I wiped and thought that my period had arrived a few days early. That night, I went out with colleagues and took FULL ADVANTAGE of an open bar. The next morning, I was surprised that my flow didn't pick up but rather stopped all together. So I never actually got my period, but I think I may have had implantation bleeding. I have now had 2 pregnancy tests turn up positive and based on my last period, I could be 4 weeks and 1 day along. My question is - have I done major damage to the baby by drinking a lot one evening when I was 10 days past the day I had sex (about 3.5 weeks pregnant?) I'm freaking out! ↓
I've had 3 pregnancies and I have always allowed myself a grace period so I don't kill myself with guilt. Basically anything you do before you're aware that you are pregnant isn't anything to feel guilty about. I've drank with all 3 (before knowing I was pregnant) and I worried of course, I think everyone does, but I doubt one night of drinking would ever harm your pregnancy. The effects of FAS come with drinking well past knowing you are pregnant and continuing to drink on a regular basis. All 3 of my girls were born a healthy 8 lbs and they have reached all of their milestones on time, if not beforehand. My oldest is 7.5 and she gets straight A's, my 4 year old can spell words and is starting to read, and my 10 month old is close to walking and she has an unusually advanced vocabulary. I even had a couple glasses of wine during my last trimester with the youngest 2. Stay healthy from this point on and you won't have anything to worry about. You're going to have a healthy, beautiful baby. Congrats! ↑
At this point you are okay. Since the placenta hasn't developed yet, the baby is sortof like a separate entitiy. Don't beat yourself up about it. A lot of women don't find out they are pregnant until they are almost out of their 1st trimester. Congratulations!! ↑
