So at my 6 wk postpartum appt. I was put on birth control for the first time, used other methods prior to my first pregnancy. I am now half way through the third month of using birth control and I was warned I might have "break throughs" with light bleeding every once in awhile for the first three months and if it continues I need to switch to a different brand. The first month I experienced these break throughs once or twice where i would see a spot in my panties, second month I was completely break through free. Third month, which I'm about a week and a half into, I've been bleeding for the past three days, to the point where I'm wearing tampons and having to switch out. I'm still on the white pills, so I'm not supposed to be having my period right now. I'm SO confused about what this means?? And does this mean that my birth control is inneffective?! AH someone who knows better than me help me out!

What kind of BC are you using? You might need to switch or contact your Dr.

I'm not sure what that means, but from my own knowlege/experience with bcp's, breakthrough bleeding doesn't mean anything about the effectiveness of the pill. If I were you, I'd probably give my body another month or two to adjust and see if things don't become more regular. BUT you know your body best, and if you're worried, call your ob/gyn. If you'd rather not go to the trouble of making an appt, you can usually talk to a nurse on the phone who can give you some advice. 'Hope that helps a little! - April

You probably do need to switch but not because your pill isn't protecting you, but because the hormone level in the pill must be too much for your body. You probably need to switch to one with less hormones.
