Ok I have a question about this monitor - I have been using it now for a week or so and the last 3 days it has gone off once a day. The first time it went off she managed to move herself way to the corner of the bed so I let that one go..then it went off yesterday during a nap and she was right next to where it was then at 4am it went off again and she was just off to the side of the crib.. everytime it goes off i fly over to the crib and grab her right out of it and she wakes up ..i never take notice if she is indeed breathing or not cause i get too scared and forget all i think is run over and grab her. Last night I had her on her side when I got up and grabbed her she was on her belly and all i notice is when I first grab her she isnt moving until I get her up to my chest which is maybe just a second but her being asleep i guess thats normal but still I am really wanting to know does anyone else have this monitor and have it go off like this or do you think she really is stopping breathing - I dont want to sleep anymore now cause I am so scared to death.. I am sitting here trying to figure out a way to sleep during the day and have my mom watch her while i sleep and then sit up all night and watch her sleep .. she moves like crazy so she is all over that crib - she is 11 weeks old ↓
ok I dont know why my words arent showing up the first one that is missing is suppose to be 'crib' and the second one that is missing is 'breathing' hopefully they show up this time lol ↑
The only time I had false alarms with mine was when I used it in the pack n play b/c the "mattress" was not exactly as flat as was needed for the unit. I had no issues in the crib at all. If I remember correctly, can't you set the sensativity on the monitor? Was your baby a preemie? Sometimes they have apnea of prematurity. Does your lo have acid reflux? ↑
Dawn I am a paranoid momma like you. I put my hand on King's chest about 25 times a night. I didn't get that monitor because my cousin had it with her son and she said there were many false alarms and it made her more nervous than if she didn't have it. I think when the baby rolls off the monitor or is not fully on it, it detects less or even no movement. I don't really know what to say since I don't have the monitor, but she is a healthy little girl and I think you gotta just trust yourself and your judgement and she will be fine. ↑
She was only early a week ..she seems great sleeping anywhere else but i try and lay her on her side with the towels cause she doesnt like to be flat on her back and she gets herself onto her belly ..sucks her thumb and thats how she is happy...but she totally moves herself all over from one end of the crib to the other .. I wish i could remember when the alarm goes off to check if she is breathing rather then shit my pants and grab her like the house is on fire ..then i scare the hell out of her and she is wide awake. Ugh! I have so much pressure from everyone to put her in that crib and what it comes down to is i am not comfortable with it - so i am already nervous then the alarm is making it worst.. my mom says i shouldnt have gotten the alarm i was like well maybe that alarm saved her life last night when it went off...then she didnt say anything. Ugh I am soo paranoid ...thank you gabby i think i just worry wayy to much .. cause if something did happen i would never forgive myself. ahh to have her in thebelly again hahaha but then again i worried when she was in there too haha ↑
Dawn, I've got tons of pressure to put King in his crib too. I swear everyone is treating me like I'm some bad mom because I'm keeping him in our room until he's 6 months. But you know what, do what works best for you. If you aren't comfortable with her in her crib then don't do it. She's your baby and nobody else has to take care of her and have the burden of worry that you have. So I say do what you want and screw everyone elses opinions. ↑
Your right - my mom is another one she keeps telling me I am spoiling her etc etc i was like mom she is too little to be spoiled - then she tells me how when i was a baby she came home with me and i went right in the crib and that was that ..O and ON my belly hahaha i was like mom .. u got lucky lol if i was in my own house she would be in bed with me and no one would know any better .. my only issue is its a twin bed so its even harder for me to get any sleep which is why they are riding me to put her in the crib. I am going to try once again to get her used to her back but at night if it dont work then she is in bed with me and thats that. Your right I have to do what makes me comfortable cause if i dont i am not getting any sleep anyway right ↑
This will make you girls feel better, I kept my lo in our room in a cradle then pack n play until she was 1!!! I read that one of the tips to reduce the risk of SIDS was to sleep in the same room as your baby so I did it until the risk was over, hahaha so 6 months is not unreasonable! My family didn;t give me too much flak, just some good natured ass-busting. You have to do what you have to do to get some sleep and keep your baby safe. Don't let anyone else pressure you into doing something that you're not comfortable with. ↑
lol her crib is in my room ...their issue is her in MY bed haha!! But I appreciate you girls making me feel better because I do feel better now... O and she was so tired again today that now she is BACK on her belly and I am sitting here with my laptop right next to the crib staring at her AND i have the monitor on. Tonight I guess I will just be awake if thats the only way she will sleep ↑
I've used the Angel Care monitor with two babies. My son (he's almost 6 yrs old now) and currently using with my daughter who's 8 mos. old. With my son, we didn't have too many false alarms, but with my daughter it went off several times one night when she was about a week old. This was right about the time she was losing a lot of weight because b/f'ing wasn't going well. I don't know if she was getting lethargic and not breathing well, or if those were false alarms too. Her ped. said the alarm might have gone off because she was so light weight (and lighter than her birth weight at the time, about 6 lbs.) or it could have been the wrong sensitivity setting for the amount of blankets and type of mattress we used then. (We got a new mattress for her than was thicker than the one for my son). With the thicker mattress and a couple layers of sheets, sheet protector, and fleece blanket on the mattress, it might have been too much for the monitor to detect movement through. Anyway, feedings got better after that and we didn't have alarm problems again until she got older and started moving around the crib. So, alarms do happen. If it goes off again, try and see if she's breathing before you pick her up - I know, easier said then done. That'll be good info for the Ped. if something really is wrong. Your Ped. can do a sleep study too if you're really concerned. ↑
