Anyone else take Benadryl almost every night?

I have insomnia and so my doctor says it's fine to take Benadryl to help me sleep. But still, I don't want to take too many drugs. I'm still on Prozac which my doctor says is okay. I was very hormonal and crazy my last pregnancy when I tried to go without it. I plan on stopping it after this trimester though. I'm worried that my doctor is too drug happy..... what does everyone else think?

Hi Megan- This is just my personal opinion but I had to take benadryl for severe allergies during my first pregnancy (not daily though) and it did not appear to cause a problem. The Prozac I would be more concerned about, I have read some scary things about SSRI's during pregnancy. Have you discussed trying to come off the Prozac now that you are in the second trimester since the hormones are usually a bit better? Again, this is just my personal opinion, I know that the "research" which is conduted by the drug companies claim that the risk is minimal but they have their own interests in mind rather than ours.

I agree with you, Clindholm about the prozac. My doctor says to stay on it and my Husband thinks I'll turn into a bitchy, angry mess without it (I did last time, I actually started it at 24 weeks and this time I never went off because I heard the risks are worse in the last trimester so I plan on going off it before that So, I guess I just have to do what I think is best huh?

I take benadryl for itchiness and for insomnia every night, have for this whole preg and for my 2 prior preg, DS7, DD5-they are brilliant and totally cute, so it obviously won't affect anything. Besides, it's a category B drug, safe for all stages of preg.

Actually, Promithezine, which is the drug given to you for nausea (which I have too and knocks me out) I looked up and it's a class C pregnancy drug while Benadryl is a B, so Benadryl is even safer.... I was curious because I was going to just take those to help me sleep even though I'm not nauseated anymore so I looked up what category it was in.......
