Hi, I went in for my 1st ultrasound on the 14th of Sept and the Doctor only seen the Sac but no baby, So they kept checking my levels and they were going up but not like they were supposed to. So I went in for another u/s and he did see the fetus but no h/b so he sent me over to the hosptial so the did another u/s and they detected 1 sac and 2 fetuses only one had a h/b one baby is 6w 3 days and the other is 6w4days it's weird. I am just curious I go back in 2 weeks is there a chance the other h/b might show up. Even though my HCG Levels were not high?? ↑
Yep, I had my first u/s at 11wks and went for my 2nd at 13 wks and they found a 2nd baby. Wasn't expecting that since we had a very clear u/s of just one baby in the first u/s! ↑
I am 6w/2d & my first u/s revealed two sacs, but one heartbeat...I have another u/s on Nov 14, what are my chances really of the other heartbeat showing up? ↑
Hey kc, you should totally find out what youare having! Have your man leave the room :) Lots of couples do that. If you want to know, you should totally find out! ↑
I had a scan at 6wk 4days, & the sonographer said it looked like the pg started off as twins... one pg sac, 2 yolk sacs and one heartbeat. I've got to go back next week for another scan to check, the wait is driving me crazy! Because it's one pg sac she said it would of been ID twins, I know Frat twins can be 1week or so apart, but can that happen with ID twins, I'd have thought that they would be at the same stage? I can't find any info on the net! Thanks :) ↑
Hi i had an u/s at 7 weeks and my baby was 1.11 cm. in every book i have read, your baby should not be that long until 9 weeks..could i be carring twins anyone else have this happen...thanks. ↑
I went in for my first appt at 9 weeks knowing I was big already, I am normally a very small woman. This is my 4th baby so I just thought maybe it was that, but this is my first preg with sickness, and it lasts all day. In all my other three, I wasn' t sick one day. Anyways, dr measured me about 14-15 weeks by size of uterus, so she scheduled ultrasound to check my dates. The u/s showed only one baby with my date still showing 9 weeks. Could the tech miss another baby since I am already this size, I am just dying to find out if I am having more than 1 baby. Dr. says "no way they could miss twins". help!!! ↑
To ANGI and Tonia- just as whoever posted the last post... its nearly impossible to miss it that far along.. but ti ANGI.. NO>... a longer measurement does NOT mean twins. NOT at all!!! In fact the only way it can be twins is if its siamese (conjoined) twins. But, even that you would see. Twins are two seperate sacs. Even if its identical its in 2 sacs. So, you and your doctor would see. Maybe you are further along then you thought or its just growing fast which is cool too. but, not twins! ↑
ACTUALLY, identical twins may or may not have their own sacs. There are two kinds of monochorionic (identical) twin pregnancies... MONOCHORIONIC-DIAMNIONIC, and MONOCHORIONIC-MONOAMNIOTIC, the later being where the egg splits between 8-12 days after conception, and they share a placenta, and are in the SAME sac. The other kind share a placenta, but are in seperate sacs (they split earlier, between 4-8 days after conception). Just something I wanted to clarify, since I've seen a couple of different posts on this thread with people stating that they can't share a sac. If you don't believe me, look up those terms. It's totally true and correct. ↑
To Tania --> I too was measuring big, felt bigger than normal. I had my first u/s at 6.5 weeks = all they saw was one sac and no baby yet. Then I had my 2nd scan @ 8 weeks = the dr saw one healthy sac w/ a baby w/ a good heartbeat. I clearly asked her to make sure there was only one in there. She completed her scanning and told me not to worry, there is only one. Well...I had some spotting @ 12 weeks so dr said come in for u/s to check and make sure the baby was ok. During the scan, when the baby moved you could see something behind it not moving with it. She looked behind that sac w/baby only to find another baby w/ a healthy heartbeat! So it took 3 thorough u/s's to locate the 2nd baby! I had a gut feeling! The dr was suprised as heck! So, YES...it is possible to not find one early on. My babies look like they have separate sacs and placentas, they just happen to be one right in front of the other! It can happen! ↑
It is very rare to have twins share the same sac. Yes, it is possible. But, not very common. The same with missing it on an ultrasound. It does happen... but, very unlikely. Especially if you have an early ultrasound. (obviously not too early)... but the further along you are with an ultrasound the more space it takes up in your uterus and looks like two are in one sac because of how it goes through the sac linning. But, when your earlier on, you see two black circles next to each other. But, yes.... you could have 2 babies in one sac sharing the cord... just not common at all for it to split that way. ANd if that does happen there are a lot of complications you need further looking into. Either way, good luck! ↑
Kathy- Julie... I'm sorry... yes you are right. what I meant was that most all twins are in two sacs, even identical. As I am an identical twin and everyone used to think that my sister and I would be holding hands. Perhaps, but with a sac in the way.. but, a lot of woman don't realize that. They think that identical means they share the same sac. So, I just wanted to clarify that what most dr's look for is two separate sacs. The % is very few and far between to have 2 babies in one sac. It can happen, you are right.. but most twins are 2 sacs and are hard to miss. It also depends on the ultrasound used and the person doing it. Oh... and to add to Angies comment... yes, if they share the same placenta there can be major problems. So, you are right.. you do need to look more into it. Not to scare anyone, but just as a precaution. ↑
For me was a doble surprise because I was using the IUD for almost two years without any problem and I found out that I was pregnant with 6 weeks, I went to the doctor at 6 w/5days and I had my first ultrasound to see the position of the baby and the IUD, the IUD was in place and the baby was in good position so the doctor decided to remove my IUD without any, complication but the ultrasound just showed one baby, one heartbeat. I had my second ultrasound at 12 weeks and for my doble surprise the doctor show me two heartbeats and told me that I was having twins!, I'm now 16 weeks and very happy, I have already a 4 years old girl and 2 years boy. ↑
i had several u/s during my preg. the 2nd baby wasn't found until i was 5mths and they were preemies born at 6mths. no one had any idea the whole time ↑
I am now 29 weeks pregnant with twin boys. I had my first ultrasound at around 7 weeks because I was having abdominal pains. At that time only one baby was detected. Once the morning sickness started it was very bad for me. I felt sick 24/7, I had an ultrasound around 10 weeks and they only saw one baby then too. They weren't looking for two. At my 12 week routine visit my doctor did my ultarsound. Then she was feeling for my uterus and noticed that my uterus was higher than it was supposed to be. At that time she did another ultrasound to see why. That was when she discovered there were two babies. So, hang in there....sometimes the second one is hiding! ↑
YES! ! I have 12 year old B/G twins. My daughter went undetected for 20 weeks and after 4 U/S she finally showed herself. I just didn't feel right and knew someting was different and it was. It was twin B ! !
My gut instinct told me something was different from my previous 2 pregnancies and it was. ↑
Is it possible for a twin to be undetected at 20 weeks? They found a second sac when I was 13 weeks pregnant and now they can't find the second baby. ↑
Catherine- what do you mean, they found a second sac at 13 weeks?? Did they find a sac but no fetal pole? In order to actually be diagnose with viable twins you have to see 2 fetal poles, both with a heartbeat, etc. Not just a sac. You may have had one blighted ovum sac where the baby didn't develop but the sac remained and finally dissolved. Just be glad that you have one healthy baby.:) oh, and yes... at 20 weeks not only would you see 2 healthy babies since your doctor was looking for it, you would also hear 2 heartbeats on doppler ↑
hi, im jay, im 19, iv jus recently found out im pregnant, its my first time and iv been told im having twins, the lady explained the process to me and said that it started off as one egg and one sperm but after 8 days of fertilisation, it split into 2 eggs meaning 2 babies, iv had my first scan and that seemed to be my situation so it could probably be yours too.... goodluck with the pregnancy... ↑
My ultrasound showed two sacs- one that was perfect and round and the other a little disformed- ultrasound tech said that I could come back next week and the one may be normal or it could be dissolved- can anyone relate? I am really excited and nervous- lots of emotions! ↑
hiya, it apperas to happen sumtimes to alot of people but with me i went for my first scan at 7Weeks 4Days and the scan showed 2 heartbeats which was a shock to me cos its my first time n im only 19 and so is my husband... goodluck, you might b lucky to find your having twins cos it truly is a gift ↑
I went to the OB for my first u/s and they found two yolk sacks but only one fetus. I am 8 weeks 2 days pregnant and was wondering if I could still be having twins. ↑
