My Bradley instructor mentioned that a lot of daycares won't mess with the pumped breastmilk because it is a "bodily fluid". Has anyone run into this issue? I was planning on pumping when I go back to work & am worried that this might be an issue. ↓
Could you call the daycares in your area and ask what their policies on pumped milk are? I haven't been in your situation, but that's what I would do if I were. Good luck! ↑
My mother did daycare out of her home and never had an issue with using pumped milk. You really never come into contact with it as it is pumped right into the plastic liner that drops into the bottle. Her moms would freeze them and bring an icecreambucket full, we'd keep it in the freezer and use them up. It was NO issue at all for her licensed home daycare. Centers are different, and as far as Im concerned, worse, but i understand there are limited options depending on financials.
good luck ↑
I don't think they have a right to tell you what you can/can't feed your baby - most places I've heard of where it is a problem (because it's bodily fluid), they have the parents fill the bottles themselves so all they have to do is warm them.
Other issues will be educating the daycare that breastfed baby poop is NOT diarrhea, that breastmilk is SUPPOSED to look funny and can be different colors (can't tell you how many stories I've heard where the providers throws the milk away because it looks funny - the fat separated, etc.), and that breastmilk should never be microwaved, etc. ↑
At my centre you supplied them milk in bottles so it was never handled. I would do what JBear suggested and call arround. Pumping is so common, it should not be a problem. Good luck! ↑
I have never heard of an issue with this. No special precautions are taken at my daughter's day care and I'm fairly certain some recent statement was made on breastmilk not being dangerous when handled. I just bring either a bottle or bag of milk and they use it as needed for cups and to mix cereal (my baby won't take a bottle). They do have their own rules that are certainly more conservative that my handling guidelines. ↑
As long as it is in bottles, there is no problem. I was actually the only one in my daycare that used breastmilk. All of the other babies my son's age used formula. ↑
Kfish-that is interesting. When my now 4-year-old was a baby, almost all the babies used formula. Now, all the babies except 2 use breastmilk. Interesting to see the change. Now, there are bags and bags of breastmilk in the little classroom fridge/freezer. ↑
