Hello All,
My wife & I went for 18 weeks u/s & radioligist has informed us that our baby has this bilateral CPC. It is measuring 6 mm on both side. We both are scared a lot. My wife is 29 years old & this is our first baby. I am writing from India. Can anybody help me on this? I do not have any idea & just gotten the report. I am yet to show it to the doctor. The radiologist was saying this will lead to some chromosome abnormalities. The mental retardation can not be ruled out.
Please help me knowing this fenomenon. Is this normal in all? Will my baby be ok? I do not have any answer to console my wife. She is crying eversince she heard the repor.
Please help.
Regards
Manoj ↓

I don't know much other than CPC's are a soft marker for Trisomy 18 and other things associated with mental retardation. I think they are more of a concern when you see other markers cleft lip, club foot, short femur, clenched fists ect... My DD had 2 CPC's one was 6mm and the other was 4mm. I spent much time worring and reading. The Drs offered an amnio but we declined upon furter research. She didn't have any other markers and was moving hands and waving during our U/S. We opted for a follow up scan at 24 weeks where we discovered that the CPCs were gone. They had told us this is what would probably happen provided we didn't have any other markers. I would talk with you Dr. and try not to let the information available on the internet consume you. My DD is 4 years old and absolutely perfect!! I hope for the best for you and your wife! ↑

I agree, thejr2913 is absolutely right! I was told that they don't even tell people about these anymore if it is the only marker they see as it causes unneccesary worry. My daughter had them at the 18 week scan but no other marker, that scared me to death b/c I didn't know that it was a soft marker meaning there have to be other markers to make it a concern. The cysts are a normal part of development and usually disapper. My daughter was born perfectly fine and she had them. PLease try to calm down. ↑

Dear thejr2913 & clindholm,
Thanks for your replys. Yesterday evening we went see our doctor. She perused the report & advised us not to worry as all other reports are normal except the CPC. She ruled out the amnio as it has more risk involved. Instead she advised us to do tripal marker test. We have submitted the sample & awaiting for the report. I will keep you posted on the further development. Our doctor explained this to my wife & she is much relieved now.
I am glad you are both feeling better. My bloodwork was a 1 in 3,000 chance which really ruled out the cycts as a maker for Trisomy 18. Good luck and please stop back and let us know how the test goes. ↑

Hi Clindholm & good morning to you,
Yesterday I have received the report of the tripal marker test. It has come negative. The Doctor advised us not to worry & we can continue with the pregnancy. My wife is very happy now. I am still nervous. I am looking forward to the ultrasound which we will do in 24 week. Unless these CPC disappears I will not be able to enjoy the arrival of our baby. My wife & mummy are doing the rounds of the temples. One thing is sure my baby don't have other markers & the CPC's should disappear. Thanks for those kind words in support. I will inform you the u/s status in 24 weeks.
Manoj- that's wonderful news! The cyst will disappear as the baby develops, please try not to worry. Praying certainly helps, please update when you have the next scan. ↑
