Eating peanut butter while pregnant?

Hi Ladies! Some people have told me NOT to eat peanut butter during pregnancy. Does it do harm to the unborn baby? Then I have other people saying you should eat it because it's good for you. I am truly confused. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

i haven't had a problem with it yet, but i assume it has something to do with people having peanut allergies. some women do and they can pass it on. i don't know too much about that but i'd definitely ask your ob about that.

The ONLY time you should avoid high allergy food like peanuts, shellfish etc, is if you have a family history that might be passed down to your kids. I ate lots of it while pregnant with both my 3yr dd & 1yr ds & plan to with this one - I am 12wks preg. Both dd & ds love eating PB & have had no problems whatsoever with it. I think doctors are over cautious sometimes & it wouldn't surprise me if that is part of the reason why soooo many people seem to be getting food allergies, because they aren't exposed to it in the womb or while being breastfed. If you have no known PB allergies in your family I would say you are probably ok to eat it while pregnant. Enjoy :)

Hi Teddyfinch and E586467: THANK YOU for your response. I love peanut butter but have been avoiding it this whole time. I'm going to go make myself a PB&J sandwich right now! Thanks again! :)
