Women are able to hear it at a lot of different times. If you are very slender, then I think it's possible, but usually you'll be a bit further along. ↑

My doc waits until 12 weeks just to be sure b/c it's very hard to hear earlier and she does not want to freak anyone out. It can be seen on ultrasound by now. Good luck. ↑

At my first visit at 6 weeks along i heard and saw the heartbeat through the internal ultrasound. I hate having the camera there. I also had blood and urine tests and a pap. Thats about it. If they use just the normal doppler you probably won't hear it yet. ↑

At 6 weeks they could not even get an external shot of the baby. Had to be internal, where we saw the heartbeat. I then went at 9 weeks and they couldn't get the heartbeat by doppler. So unless you get an ultrasound, you won't hear the heartbeat. Way too early at 7 weeks. My OB said next appt (14 weeks) they will definitely be able to hear it. ↑

Why did you have an ultrasound already?? Are you high risk ??-athena, and baby2jan?? It seems like a lot of people get many ultrasounds. Isn't it a risk to get so many done? ↑

With this pregnancy and my first I had ultrrasounds at 8 weeks (vaginal), and saw the heartbeat both times- no sound though. I will be 36 weeks tomorrow. ↑

I had my first ultrasound when I was 5 weeks because I went to the hosptial because i was having spotting. They couldnt even see anything just they thought they saw a sac because it was way too early. Then I had another one at 12 weeks because I was still spotting and I got to see the baby kicking, it was so cute. But they couldnt hear anything with a doppler lol they kept picking up my heart beat because mine was so loud. My doctor never orderd an ultrasound, those two were done by the hospital in emerg. I just went to my doctor last monday and he orderd me one for next month :D I am currently 15 weeks. SO this is when I get to find out the gender lol. ↑

I also had an early ultrsound(s) due to cramping. There are currently no proven risks from ultrasounds. I have heard some theories that it may be disruptive, but nothing is proven at this point. I had several on my last pregnancy due to complications, but my dd was born perfect so I would not be concerned about numerous ultrsounds. ↑

Mary b, I've already had 3 u/s. Two of them were scheduled b/c I'v had 3 m/c, no live births. They did HCG and progesterone draws on me every 3 days for probably 2 1/2 weeks, too. My 3rd u/s was done b/c I went to the doctor and told him that I was constantly paranoid that something was wrong. So, he did an u/s just to ease my mind. Of course, this doctor was an infertility specialist, not a regular OB, so he's really used to paranoid first-timers! ↑
