Group B strep

Hi there, so I'm 38 weeks & the Dr. just told me I was positive for Group B Strep ... which is freaking me right out! He said not to worry as when I go into labor they will have to give me antibiotics which should make sure I don't pass it on to the baby. But that didn't make me feel much better because all the stuff I'm reading on the internet says your baby could get meningitis or worse ... what the hell!?! How can I not freak out, I never had this when I had with my son 3 years ago ... does anyone know much about this or have any experience? Thanks!

hey girl... dont freak out (i know easier said than done) about 40% of healthy women test positive for group b strep.. its a natural bacteria that your body creates all on its own. the chances of it causing a problem to your baby are very very slim. stay off google lol internet horror stories are the worst. like your doc said all they will have to do is give you antibiotics while you are at the hospital in labor.. which means you shoiuldnt stay at home during early labor... once your contractions are regular you should go straight to the hospital so they can start antibiotics as soon as they can. dont worry to much hon :) good luck.
