Is it normal for a doctor to rely on your HPT results?

I had 2 positive HPT results, so I wanted to make an appointment with the OBGYN to confirm, but they said to schedule for when I'm 8 weeks along...that I'm likely pregnant. Why don't they want me in the office to confirm? I'd be so embarrassed to show up in 1 month and they say that I'm not pregnant...

Some doctors use HPTs in the office. Also a false positive is extremely unlikely.

If you got positive HPT's then you are probably good. If you like you can continue testing every couple of days for peace of mind. I will be 37 weeks pregnant on thursday with our second child. I can tell you that 8 weeks is the norm for your first appointment. You don't want to go any sooner because they will be doing your first ultrasound to confirm and you will hear and or see the heartbeat. Get your hubby to go with you, it is amazing to see for the first time. It sounds to me like you have nothing to worry about. If your first appointment was any sooner, the heartbeat may not be visible yet and that just causes undue stress and worry on your part. Enjoy these next few week, I am sure some sort of morning sickness is in your near future. Usually it hits somewhere between 5 and 7 weeks. Just to be prepared, you may want to stock your night table with soda crackers and warm clear carbonated drinks. Another thing that helped to take the edge off for me during the day were 'Preggie Pop Drops'. You can buy them at Babies"R"Us.

Congratulations! As long as you are taking prenatal vitamins and are young and in good health, there is no particular reason to visit the doctor any sooner. Good uck!

My Dr. office did the same thing, but it was my 3rd pregnancy so I was used to it. When I was 17 i became pregnant with my first dd and I took a HPT to find out and then I went to the clinic to talk to a Dr. I told him I wanted to confirm my pregnancy. This Dr. was soo rude to me, probably stereotyping me because I was young. He said "What more do you want if the HPT came out positive. Do you think this test is going to give you a different answer?" I said "Well, I thought you were supposed to go to the Dr. when you took a pregancy test and it came out positve. What more AM I supposed to do??" Needless to say, I found a new Dr...so when I found out I was preggo with my 2nd and 3rd I phoned to make an appt. and it never really phased me when the receptionist booked it for around the time I would be 10 weeks along.
