Summerrae, I am so happy to have come across this website, although it is concerning to see so many women in such pain. I have had 2 c-sections. My first one was good. I had not pain, I recovered for the most part. My second baby, was 2 weeks early because the placenta was weak due to the previous c-section and the way the incision healed. It was coming lose as it was attached to the incision. I was told no more babies..
I have been in pain for 15 months and continued to visit the doctor as I was in so much pain it made me so sick to my stomach. I have been to doctors, a specialist and had a CT scan. Nothing turned up. The doctor did suggest that I go see a Gastoral Specialist but the CT scan shows that the bowels are good. He did suggest that I could go and have plastic surgery to correct the incision. I wake up every day in pain. I can not sleep more then 6 hours a night or the pain is so intense the next day. I wake up stiff and sore, my stomoch burned and my incision pulls. I feel horrible for being so young. I am unable to lose weight and feel that this could be hormonal, I am so unsure. ↑
I also am having trouble with my left side aftre my second C-section. I first thought it was because I've been working out so much, but now I'm thinking differently.
I'm so thankful I found this site. I plan to call my OBGYN tomorrow. I hope we all can find a solution.
God Bless ↑
I am having the same problems. I had 2nd section on 9-23, since then the left side is great, no pain or lumps. I do have a burning, hot poker sensation on the right, somewhat tender to the touch and an egg size lump underneath. Is this hernia, adhesions, hernia or what?? At my 2 week appt my dr said all was ok but he checked the scar when I was lying down and you really cant see it unless I am upright. I still have pain on the right and get very uncomfortable after standing or trying to work for a couple of hours. Any ideas?? ↑
hey my name is emma iv had 3 c sections due to prem babies ,,,,,,,1 and half yr later i still suffer servere pain my my right side of my stomach it comes and goes my insides feel so brused this started happening after 3rd c section iv now had 4 dignosis 1.brusing 2 infection 3 scar tissue 4th ibs i know how u feel but what is it my stomach swells and gets v painfull xx ↑
I apparently am not alone! I am 12 days post open myomectomy for fibroids and endometriosis, I too have a breif stabbing/burning pain on my left side when I dare to cough, sneeze or move the wrong way. I also have a good sized lump that is painful when touched. Doctor appointment tomorrrow and I too wonder if it is a hernia or did something foreign get left inside of me. Any insight? ↑
I too suffer from this. My second pregnancy was supposed to be a VBAC and while in labor the dr, not my normal one, talked me into doing a csection due to baby having a fast heartrate. For the rest of my life I will regret that decision. Now I have constant pain on my right and it's worse after working out and intercourse. Dr's are too quick to give csections. ↑
IT BETTER! After an entire year of pain from my c-section, my doctor finally did a laparascopy to figure out why I had such constant disabling pain. I had scar tissue wrapped around my left ovary, strangling it- and I also had a cyst which could have been contributing to the pain. I was put through thousands of dollars of tests and made to go through several painful treatments before they did the surgery. I am trying not to be angry for the year of enjoyment I lost since I had been asking for an ultrasound since 3 months after the surgery. I would encourage all of you with disabling pain to demand a laparascopy as it is the best diagnostic tool and it is likely the only way to fix the problem anyway. ↑
I had my second c-section in November 2003. Since then I have had a very bad burning pain in my left side that comes & goes. It seemes to get worse around the time of my period. While I am having it my stomach feels swollen to me but dosen't really look it. At my 6 week check up I was still in very bad pain and still bleeding so I was put on antibiotics for a possible uterine infection. I work for a gynocologist so after about 4 months of pain I saw the nurse practitioner at my office & had an ultrasound done. It was normal. I just decided to wait it out to see what would happen. The pain has not gotten better and sometimes I think it is worse. It is like a burning pain that is not deep inside. It feels more incisional and just above the incision. It seems to get worse when I am on my feet alot or if I work out. A couple weeks ago it was so bad that I decided to see the Dr. that I work for about it. He said he thought I may have an incisional hernia or a nerve entrapment. He sent me to a general surgeon. The general surgeon didn't think it was a hernia. He said it could possibly be an endometrioma. He ordered a CT scan. That too came back normal. He wants me to go see a pain management Dr. to get some injections. I am willing to do it but don't think it will work. I don't think that a laporoscopy will help because the pain is not deep inside. I don't know what to do. It is hard to take care of 3 kids with such pain. If anyone finds some answers please let me know. Sorry this is so long. By the way those of you with lumps under your skin should go get a CT scan for a p[ossible endometrioma or hernia. ↑
Liz- your story sounds so much like mine I swear you could be me! I went through the gamet of tests. My CT was normal. The injections from pain management made my pain worse, which was at least diagnostic that it was deeper than the abdominal wall which is where the doctor's thought the pain was coming from. So I got an MRI, which showed a cyst, but that didn't explain where my pain was coming from either. I was so hestiant to get the lap but now I wish I would have done it long long ago. ↑
Robin, did your pain feel deep or did it feel more like it was in the abdominal wall to you? I think I am going to try the injection just so that I know I tried everything. If that dosen't work I will most definatley be getting a lap. ↑
Liz, for the longest time I thought it was the adominal wall, essentially because it felt different than when I had appendicitis, and I was tender to the touch at the internal incision line. The only medication which seemed to help was muscle relaxants, so my doctors thought it must be abdonimal wall too. However, when the pain got to its worst, I could feel it clear into the inside of my hip bone, similar to when you are very pregnant and the baby is pressing on your hips. You might as well try the injections because if it doesn't fix your problem it will be able to diagnose if it's deeper down. When I had the injections I did get numbness, but the pain I had was still searing pain, so obviously below the abdominal wall. Beleive me- I did EVERYTHING, from physical therapy, to drug therapy, to injections, to trying to ignore it and move on- none of which worked. I really hope you get some help! The last year was horrendous for me, I had nearly given up hope on everything. ↑
Robin- Thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind. I don't think the Dr's realize how common this is. I feel like they all think I'm crazy. I will be sure to ask for a lap. if the injections don't help. ↑
Exactly! I had several doctors tell me that "there couldn't be" anything wrong, and my last doctor say I was 1 in 1,000,000. I even convinced myself for awhile that I was imagining the pain. It's been a really tough year. I am really trying to move past it, but I keep becoming angry on everything I missed in my baby's first year b/c of this. Don't give up- even if the doctors don't give you an answer as soon as you like. ↑
I have the same problems that all of you are experiencing. I met with a surgeon last week, he told me that any tests he could do such as a CT scan would not show anything abnormal. I had surgery today and he found a small hernia and he also removed some scar tissue. I will know if the surgery helped when I get my next period. That's when the pain was the worst for me. I will give you an update at that time. Good luck!!! ↑
I also had a repeat c-section 6 weeks ago; my first was 8 years ago. Since this last one, I've had pain in my abdomen, can't sleep on my stomach, I run low-grade fever about once or twice a week with chills/sweats and feel just like I have the flu (complete with body aches). My incision became infected about a week after delivery, but antibiotics cleared it up. My doctor is baffled---he has no idea what causes the fever, etc. I'm also STILL BLEEDING which is very depressing!!!! I've been back for check-ups 4 times since I had the baby, now he's scheding me for a test to see if they may have "kinked my kidney tubes" during delivery or if they may have left something inside me. He said that I had massive amounts of scar tissue from my first c-section and that's one reason I"m having these complications. ↑
Johnnie- It sounds to me like you may have a uterine infection. You should have your Dr. put you on some new antibiotics. Once that is cleared up the bleeding should stop & so should the fevers & pain. ↑
Hi everyone. I can't believe all of this! It is so shocking. I just had my second c section 4 months ago and am not suffering from abdominal pain, however I am experiencing a strong burning, stinging pain during sex and am wondering whether it could be realated to the caesar. I also had a wound infection with my first c section and the surgeon said I had a lot of adhesions. I am suffering from night sweats too. Does anyone else have these problems? or is it in my head? ↑
its crazy, am not a lone, we have to go through all this pain after the actually pain. what are the doctors researching on? the cut us open, and its each one for themselves! I hope some concerning doctors will read this, and pardon me ladies, i had to let it out. xoxo ↑
Icannot believe that all of us women are having the same type of problems after a c-section. Whether it be a first section or a fourth, we are having problems! Something is wrong! Who knows what it is.....a technique that needs to be changed, a doctors mistake? All I know is that I'm sick of being in pain. I am 11 wks. post p.p. I had a tubal ligation with my third section. I was in the most pain I had ever been in. I went back to the Dr. at 8 wks. p.p. with pain on my right side and burning during urination. I have also been experiencing unusual abdominal cramping. I was still bleeding. I left the Dr.'s office diagnosed with a uterine infection and bladder infection. Taking two antibiotics 700 mgs in all for 10 days, the problem did not go away. So I went back today, and Dr. wants to do I.V. antibiotics for 48 hrs. in hosp. and a cat scan after 24 hrs. I know that alot of you women have been experiencing problems p.p. but does anyone have any real answers as to why we are experiencing them? I just want to get better! c.schewe@comcast.net ↑
hello i had a c section 17 weeks ago, i did notice that when led down and tensed tummy that my left side would look bigger, but i believe you have lots of differnt organs in there and your tummy mucles are still soft, and dont forget they take a long time if ever getting back to normal after pregnancy, also i think the pain on certain sides from my experiance might be to do with what side surgeon stood and made incision, i think too many people get to paronoid and put blame, dont forget with most of us women who has had c sections had them for a really important reason for the safety health and well being of our precious un born child, if no section was performed and somthing bad happend then people would certainly complain, so why put blame on others, ( i am not saying that doctors dont make mistakes). but it sounds like here to many people are trying to find people to blame (do some people out there really think after having an operation with tissue, nearves and things like that being cut that that part of the body is going to be 100 % back to normal) ↑
Oh.. wow.. (sob*).. I had a c-section October 1st and have had a sharp stabbing pain on my left side. I figured that it was taking me longer to heal, since I am taking care of my child alone 5 days out of the week. Now I know that I need to take this up w/ my doctor asap! ↑
hi, i had c-section 2 yrs ago and for the past 2 months i have been having pain in the left lower abdomen, my gynec thought that it might be incisional hernia, and i consulted with a surgeon, he has asked me to take a ct scan. I get pain once or twice a week. Bearable pain. I am scared for getting operated, is there any other solution. I heard [people live with these type of hernia for decades without treatments, is it true? Is it ok to postpone the operation. I have one kid, we are plannignto have a kid in a year or so. Possibility is that it might be c section too, i do not want to undergo too many surgeries? ↑
I'm not (by any means) trying to put the blame on someone else, I'm just merely saying that after 11 weeks I'm sick of being in pain and I'm sick of bleeding. I know my body, and right now, things are not right. I should not still be bleeding and I should also have been able to resume my normal activities. But I cant. I have three kids to raise! I have been In the hosp. receiving antibiotics for 2 days, antibiotic treatment at home, consultations w/ Dr.s, I just dont't know. After my surgery I had huge bruises. A big bruise across my thigh where they strapped it to the table, and a big bruise across my pubic bone. When I got my staples out my incision was still wide open. (I could see my own adipose tissue! Fat!) Dr. put steri strips and that was it. It was also still draining blood. My baby was 6 weeks old when it finally closed. During my surgery I smelled feces (was it my own? did they injure my bowels?) They talked about cauterizing my bladder, (did they hurt that too?). I just can't seem to get any real answers. They even ended up putting me to sleep w/ general anesthesia. I didn't know until I woke up. Now, I don't remember much from the time my son came out. That is even blurry to me. I can even vaguely remember them calling in another Dr. and for someone to get my file during surgery. Maybe I'm being paranoid. This was my third section and things did not go the way the others did. I guess theres just something that does not feel right. My son is healthy though and I suppose that is all that really matters. ↑
C-Section -Oct 1st - I went to my OB and he said that it was just gas... can you believe that? I kept telling him that it hurts the most when I lift my son in his infant seat or when I walk around!! Then he told me that I was healing slowly and that nature heals with time!! I'm with cschewe, I know my body too and I know when something isn't right! I'm so sick of being in pain and my doc isn't taking me seriously!! I'm going to make an appointment with my regular doc, 'cuz i can't take this anymore (sob*) ↑
I too have had buring hot poker like pain on my left side since my first c section. I am 10 weeks post op from my second and still have a wound that is packed 2 x a day because of infection. I also have a large mass in my r ight lower abd that the doc says is nothing. going to see a specialist next week ↑
Jessica,
Thats a good idea to follow up with your regular Dr. I think that sometimes you just need another opinion from someone on the other side of the spectrum! Just my 2 cents! ↑
Hi all, just checking back in. I see no magical cure has arisen since my last visit. I too am still suffering left sided pain. Now it is daily, worse with my peiods. My doc says the same 'ol thing, she wants to do a laparoscopy. According to all the info on adhesions, surgery only exacerbates the problem. So my question to you all is this, how in the world are you getting any pain releif? I have come to a stand off with my doc. She won't prescribe them because I am refusing to do exploratory surgery. I think a doctor should respect a patient's wishes on such a thing. Its only excrutiating at that time of the month, I can deal with the daily 'pangs'. My last period I just laid in bed and cried for 3 days, I didn't even call her because I knew she wouldn't call in anything because she's been pushing for surgery. There is no reason for a person to have to suffer like this - just because she doesn't want to write scripts. How do I find a more sympathetic doctor? What can I do? ↑
Nikki,
I definately think yoe should find another Dr. I have much respect for Dr.'s but in this case,,,,I don't know. There are other ways to "explore"! There are tests that are minimally invasive like cat scan, ultrasound, MRI. In the meantime maybe some type of anti-inflamitory may be of some help. Hope youre feeling better soon. ↑
I've had 2 sections - the last one 3 years ago. I've been having intolerable pain from a palpable lump of scar tissue/bundle of nerves? for about 6 months. I'm on narcotics and have just been started on medication (neurontin) to try to control the pain. The first surgeon I saw refused to do my surgery?...I see another one next week. It's frustrating when they(usually male) don't take you more seriously. Hey, I didn't take T#3's after my c-sections, but I have to take them now- could you listen to me and take me seriously! Anyways, it's awful to see so many other women with similar problems... and NO we're not hysterical women, we just need help! ↑
