I had my last c-section March 1st. Two weeks post I began to experience burning, shocking pain on the left side. It was about a 8/10 on the pain scale but was also intermittant. Fortunatly, I have a very good friend who is an anesthesiologist and diagnosed it as nerve pain (ilioinguinal). He did some research and found this to be very rare but is seen in males who are post hernia repair. No where did he find it in reference to a c-section. He referred me to the pain clinic where I had an injection of a numbing agent and a steroid. My pain decreased over the next week and now I am pain free. My pain doctor stated that the sooner you can treat nerve pain the better. My OB said she had never had this happen in 18 years of practice. I hope this helps some of you all. Please feel free to email me if you would like any further details of my treatment. ctgrissett@aol ↑
i too have the burning pain but on my right side and ONLY when exercising/stretching. I had the baby on feb 21st and this is my second ceserean. I also have an upper protrusion/bloating/swelling right under my rib cage that makes me look like I am still pregnant...it doesn't feel soft though...it feels hard...does anyone have any advice? ↑
Do you have a lump in your hand? It could be a cyst. The Doctors can take it out by needle or cut it out.
I get one 2 months after every c-section.
But 3 years before my first pregnancy I would get sharp pains in my hands when I type or pick up medal.
The doctors at the time were very useless ↑
I remember reading this page some 10 months ago when I was having all these problems aftery second c-section in Feb 04. Ultrasounds, pelvic and hernia, showed nothing. A laparoscopy showed uterus adhesions. A second doctyor diagnosed me with incisional endometriosis and was put into menopause for 6 months before he attempted excision surgery. Finally as the hormone suppresion didn't reduce the swelling in the scar and pain continued, a CT scan was requested. I don't want to scare anyone here - but it came back with extensive disease throughout the pelvic cavity as well. At a second laparoscopy, biopsies were taken and I have been finally diagnosed with peritoneum cancer stage IV. It is treated and staged the same as ovartian cancer. So from what the so called specialists thought was adhesions and incisional endometriosis is now a life threatening illness, cancer at an advanced stage. To all you ladies who are experiencing swelling and lumps in your scar and pelvic pain, I would request a CT scan and a CA125 blood test. If they come back negative, but pain continues then request a Lap. It could well save your life. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and I will be extremely lucky to still be alive in the next few years. If anyone would like more information, you can email me at joolsc@optusnet.com.au
If I can help any of you out with further information so you will not end up in the same boat as me, I would be happy to. ↑
Hi everyone, I posted my problem several months ago but never got a response. So im gonna state it on this thread which seems like many people repond to. I had 3 c-sections, my last 2 years ago. On my right side of my last incesion I have a hernia. ( i was diginosed with it ) A insecisnal hernia. I have no pain at all. It just has grown it the past 6 months and when I cough, sneeze, blow my nose it bulges out. Now this is what im wondering. When you have a incesinal hernia does your upper part of your stomach get big. I look like am 5 months pregnant. I took 3 pregancie tests- they all came up negitive. oh also my stomach is very very hard only on the top, like im carrying a baby, or something is in there. Does anyone have any answers?? I know I need to go see a doctor , Im just very scared to be cut open again.. ↑
Patty, your surgen told you that adhesions don't cause pain. My doctors have different opinions. Pelvic ultrasound didn't show any abnormalty. Two OBGYNs diagnosed me with adhesions. The only way to find out the real cause is laporoscopy, but I don't want to be cut open again. My C-section was Apr 2004. Did anyone get pregnant again after having post C-section pains and delivered a full-term baby? I want to get pregnant again in a year, but worry if my body can handle it. ↑
I have had two c-sections. The last one was in 2002 and last year - June 2004I had another operation to remove two large fibroids and to repair an incisional hernia. the C-section scar was opened again. However, in the last 4 months I have been experiencing pain in my left side especially when I sit down, or near my ovulation. My GP feels it is muscular pain and gave me anti-inflammatory pain killers, but the pain is still here. It is worse when I wake up first thing and lingers throughout the day. I am at a loss as to what next to do, as I am 39 and would like another child. I already have two young ones. Please assis ↑
When i have my menstral cycles for the past 2 months, I've noticed a little bit of blood coming from my rectum.
What causes this and should I be alarmed? ↑
I have ahd 2 c-sections and have had pain on both sides in bewtween the two surgeries and now 2 years later, severe pain on both sides and up my lower back and into my mid back. My doctor has done a pelvic and is concerned it may be endometriosis. I too will need a ct scan. I have pain in my abdomin and lower back off and on all month long - severe during my periods. Anyone else have this problem? ↑
I no longer suffer from any pain ....now 4 and a half months ago but my bleeding and pain lasted 12 or 13 weeks no real answers to this ....my belly is still odd shaped or uneven ↑
well it's benn 4 and a half months since my second c-section was having pain and troubles till about 12 or 13 weeks pains are gone but belly is still lopsided ...wish i had more answers for you ....good luck ↑
Hi all- BACK AGAIN- still looks as if there is no for sure answers out there. I have stopped nursing, so now doc suggests Lupron. I've read the horror stories, and decided to get a 2nd opinion. I called her office to tell them to cancel the Lupron order and send a copy of my records to another doc. Imagine my surprise when my doc called me back personally to discuss this! Boy did I feel put on the spot. But, I figure, if it was something she messed up on during the c-section (which I screammed the whole way thru- spinal tap didn't take- what a NIGHTMARE- still have bad dreams about it- laying on the table with all my guts hanging out pleading for mercy) then how willing will she be to come clean during a laparascopy if she indeed finds an error in her work. If you get a bad haircut from a hairdresser will you go back a second time? I know I wouldn't. So, going for a second opinion with a doc I've heard great things about. Just got a call from their office that they have to postpone my appt. arghhhh. Early June hopefully I will have answers. I will pass on whatever, who knows if it will help someone else.
Take Care All,
Nikki ↑
I have been having pian in my left side for almost a little over a year,I had an mri and the nueroligist said it was a mass went to a gyno and had endomitrisis taken off my overy but nothing done about the mass. I am strongly thinking that the mass is scare tissue not a mass , I had a tummy tuck in2003 and ever since then I have had alot of pain that I can not bear any longer . I went in to the gyno again and he did laproscopy and found nothing on my overys. I also had to go to the hospital and they gave me an ultrasound on the outside of my abdomin and it was covered and could not be seen from the outside so they did a vaginal ultrasound and thats when he did that susgery for nothing because he said that there was nothing there. He did say that I may have endometriosis on my bladder and I am supposed to go to a uroligist and he will put a scope to check my bladder. The pain causes numbness nawing pain sharp pin, I really feel like I am dying. My daghter has missed some school because of this and my life has been heel ever since last year. One dr. said in the beginning of all this that it came up as a little scare tissue but that was 2 years ago . I hope I am making some since to some one out there that can help me.Please I want my life back, waht kind of dr. do I go and see if it is not my bladder?Thakyou and I will be praying for every one of you ladies.May God be with you.:) ↑
i had my 3rd csection on Jan 4. and felt fine until 2 weeks ago. Something i am noticing in many of these answers is many woman need to realize they will have pain. You have to take it easy. They say 6 months to fully heal and 2 years before your system regualtes itself again. I am having a naging pain in my right side. It isn't too much just uncomfortable and annoying. It burns and i feel like there is something hanging(besides my fat role) I enjoyed Liza's comments and feel i have the same symptoms as her. I went to the doctor yesterday because i was feeling great and exercising until last week when this started. I was afraid i had torn something or done too much too fast. I feels like pinching and burning. My doctor injected me with a numbing agent and he told me it had to do with my nerves and if they got nicked they grow a bulb that can hurt. I don't really understand what he did and he said it may or may not help. I am just frustrated and want my body to be normal.(as you all sound like )Liza do you know anything about what he injected and what it is supposed to do. He said it wasn't for pain(when i told him i wasn't in enough pain to warrant pain medication) I said it would help the nerve go back into place? By the way my friend has had 6 sections and is fine. Lucky her. ↑
Yes I do, I have severe lower back pain ,abdominal pain ,severe pelvic pain ,pain on both sides of lower abdominand have had endometrisos surgery and now had another lapro, and it showed nothing my docter is sending me to a uroligist he says that it is in my bladder,I think and feel alot more pain than my idiot docter thinks,I now that sounds harsh but when you get to where you are PRAYING FOR GOD TO COME BACK AND TAKE YOU THAT IS PRETTY BAD IF YOU ASK ME. ↑
my question for many of you is did you take the full 6 weeks to really heal? Did any of you lift something aeccidentally that was heavier than should have been lifted before the 6 weeks--- and then start to experience all of these various symptoms and horrible pains. Thanks for your responses. ↑
Ginger, sounds like you may have had a simple nerve block. Typically this consist of a long acting local anesthetic agent with some steriod in it. The combination will relieve pain by bothing numbing the area and reducing the inflammation that has occurrd to the nerve. Unfortunately, a neuroma (the scarred bundle that usually develops when nerves are cut) is very painful. Your body will still try to transmit nerve signals through this area and you may feel symptoms consistent with burning, numbness, tingling, or pain. The block he gave you along with agents for nerve pain are going to be your best resort. Surgically speaking, the nerve endings can be split again and tucked into the muscles close by. This usually prevents them from trying to emit signals...you'll be numb in that part of your body, but pain free. Hope this helps.
For Star, Kara, Nicole C., Robin, TMS, Kara W., Alyssa, Julie and every other fabulous woman-- Thank you for your postings! What's wrong with me? My second c-section was in 12/01. In 02/04, two cycles a month, heavy bleeding and extreme left side cramping began. In 04/04 the pain on the left side of the incision occured at all times of the month, heavy bleeding and severe cramping continued during my 2x a month cycle. Lower back pain and lower abdominal bloating also began. Also, in 04/04, plz add a side of HBP. With a high stress job sending me out-of-town I never stopped to check myself. In 11/04, another family member's declining health immediately had me voluntarily quit my job. By 01/05, my blood pressure came back down to normal, the cycle fell into a regular pattern of 28 days yet the bloating and left-sided pain continues to double me over. I only take Motrin as other meds make me sluggish and "just not someone I would want to be @". My lower abdominal area has continued to become very mishapen. The swelling is so severe it feels as if my stomach is being pushed up towards my sternum. In 04/05 I finally set an appt. w/ my Ob-Gyn. I explained my concerns and my doc listened! (plzzz seek out another doctor if you two are not on the same page) My doc set up a lab visit for the blood draw (as mentioned by Julie on May 7, 2005) & an appt. on May 31 for a pelvic ultrasound. There are several conditions many of you wrote about and I jotted them down. I just need to spell check and practice pronouncing them first! ;-) If they try to tell me I am normal I will say, "Normal? Ok, there are some women I want you to meet!!!" **Next update** After the results of the blood draw. In the meantime, what is happening to me?? Plzzz share your thoughts on what is wrong with me. Thank you!! Thank you!! ↑
I had my son on 2-14-05 and it's driving me crazy, because i havent stopped bleeding.i stop for a day or two then go right back to moderate flow. It's worse after intercourse or a long day on my feet. My ob says this is normal, but i didnt experiance this with my first son and i had him vaginally. I just dont understand? My stomache is also numb and very sore but my incision area isnt causing me any discomfort.Have any of you experianced this.Or have any suggestions?thank you. ↑
Hi, I wanted to share with you all my follow up appointment with my surgeon --whose belief was that adhesions do not cause pain. Well, apparently what he found was that the adhesions had twisted my ovary and fallopian tube. I'm still not sure how something like this cannot bee seen on a MRI or CAT -- it's been almost 4 weeks now and I have not had any of that horrid pain I'd been having for almost a year. Good luck to you all. ↑
brooks:i have been numb with all 3 of my sections. it took me about a year to fully feel normal around my stomach area. as for the bleeding i bleed 6-8 weeks after i have a csection. many people think the doctor cleans you out after surgery and you will bleed less. this is not so. You shouldn't really be having sex until you are done bleeding. I know medically they say 6 weeks. so it is personal and up to you but that is how my body works. ↑
ginger,hi thanks for your help. You blead for 6 to8 wks? im going on 13wks is that really normal?i wasnt sure about the intercourse part, because my doctor gave me the go ahead after just 2 wks as long as i was comfortable and on birth control.im on the depo shot do you think that could have something to do with my bleeding?thank you.hope to hear from you soon. ↑
I'm sure i'm pregnant, yes unprotected sex, but I'm not too sure, i have a really nasty burning pain to one side, you know where I'm talking about! lol I should be about 5 weeks if I am, i am quite scared about this but i'm sure everything will be fine! ↑
I am also having sharp burning pains on my right side. I had my c-section 3 months ago and I was wondering if this was normal or not. Please let me know if you find out anything. kendall.harper@vandenberg.af.mil ↑
