Just found out that I am pregnant!!! My big question now is, will I be able to lift heavy at the gym still? I am a National level powerlifter and I've got a big meet coming up at the end of June. Is it ok to still lift like that or do I need to take it easy? Thanks!!!

You should check with your DR about that :) I believe they normally limit weight lifting while prego.

Have you ever checked out Stumptuous? There's a section all about weight lifting while pregnant. stumptuous.com/cms/display-article.php?aid=73

Also-,- nice to see another lady who lifts! :)

I am by no means a power-lifter, but I did lift throughout my entire pregnancy and was fine! The doctors said no, but I just tried to listen to my body. I also run approx 26 miles per week and just wanted to see how things would progress. I still think you should talk to your dr. Chances are, he/she will tell you, "nothing over 30 lbs". That's what mine said...so I hedged and rationalized saying..."Ok, do 30lbs per bicep?" Seriously, though, I think weight training during pregnancy is a total judgement call. In the end, you're gonna' do what you're gonna' do, but try to be smart and arm yourself with some facts from professionals! Good luck!
