Question: Hi. I had IVF done and went today for my pregnancy test. The egg extraction/fertilization was done on 9/15 (exactly 2 weeks ago today). The nurse informed me that my test was positive, but my hCG level was 33 - which in her words was a little low. I am going back on Friday for another test. Has anyone experienced this? With all the reading I was doing - 33 for 2 weeks gestation didn't seem that low?? Any information would be hugely appreciated! ?

| Answer: I am going through the same thing. I hade to go today and do more blood work. My doctor told me I might not be as far along as they might originally have thought. Keeping my fingers crossed. If not it could be a tub pregnancy. That is driving me up the wall, not knowing, they keep asking me if I have hade any cramps witch I have but no blood that’s a plus. So keep your head up maybe your just early too. = |
| Answer: i am going through the same thing, i have every symptom in the book, i had a negative blood and neg urine, but on my US i seen a sac with something attached to the inside, now i smoke a lot of cigarettes, had 2 miscarriages and 2 ectopics. i am hoping and praying, and i will be praying for the both of you. I HAVE STOPPED SMOKING CIGARETTES! i am going to take care of myself and you all need to too. I'll keep you posted! = |
| Answer: Amber/Monique,
Thanks for both of your responses. I know I'm not earlier than that - being they know the exact date of gestation being it was done through InvitroFertilization and Artificial Insemination.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both...here's hoping we all get the good news we are praying for! = |
| Answer: Hi,
I am sorry to say this but it is extremely low. I had an HcG level of 48 at 2.5 weeks post conception and miscarried at 5 weeks. The doc said the HcG level should be closer to 100 if not in the 100's and she could have predicted the miss. A low HcG level is a sign that you may miscarry. Have them check each week so you can be more prepared. After 2 misses, I have finally concieved and have a healthy baby on the way. There is hope:)
Best of luck to you. = |
| Answer: Hi all, low hcg levels or slow rising HcG levels are usualy an indication of impending misscarage. My doctor tested me on my second daughter several times becuase they consider anything under 100 HcG level not a viable pregnancy. I am currently having a miscarage where my levels went from in the 30's droped to 14, rose again to 26, then stayed steady at 26 and I lossed the pregnancy. They say your HcG levels should double every 48 hours. Best of luck..
= |
| Answer: Thank Heavens...my ends a little different. My first set of hCG numbers were 33. Two days later they went to 96. Four days later, they went to 372 and now - 7 days later, they are over 6000. I had my first ultrasound today and everything looks great. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...my first set of low hCG numbers didn't mean miscarriage for me this time. (they did last time, however). I wish everyone out there the very best of luck. = |
| Answer: Hi. I am in the same boat as you are now. Its been 3 weeks since my concpetion and I tested positive for pregnancy. But my HCG level has been 32 , 48hours since then its not doubled but slightly risen. I dont stand a chance right???!!!! :-(.
Doc feels it could be a chemical pregnancy. Very disappointed. = |
| Answer: I have just went though one round of Clomid. We got a postive pregnancy last week. The DR. suggested a Hcg test. My first # was 76 . 48 hours later we got a # of 96. My doctor stated this doesn't look real good. I go Monday for another test. I have no signs of a miscarriage at this time. Has this happened to anyone else? = |
| Answer: At 5 weeks I was 26, 3 days later 46, 2 days later 109, 2 days later 176, 3 days later 490..................they think it is ectopic. As soon as I am over 1000 they will do an ultrasound. I had bleeding for 4 days and bad cramping (they thought I miscarried - so that is when they started testing my HCG) Anything is possible = |
| Answer: 33 is a bit low but there is still hope. We are all different and the numbers might be different as well. The important thing is they need to double every 48 hours. I have started with 25, my doctor also checked my progesterone levels, which were low as well. After taking supplements both levels of hormon were just fine. My doc said that some women have a low number to begin with, and sometimes we need a bit of help. Talk to your doctor about checking your progesterone, it might help. Best of luck... = |
| Answer: Hey Emma - How far along were you when your numbers were 25? = |
| Answer: To all those who don't think there is a chance...please don't give up hope. I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and everything is great. Yes - my numbers started low, but they did double. The progesterone is vital. They increased my dosage as well. I wish you all luck. = |
| Answer: Sorry, but I can't answer any of the questions. I have a problem too. My husband and I have been trying to concieve since June, with no avail. My period was due on Oct 19 and it didn't come (my period comes every 28 days),so I took a HPT and it was neg. On Oct 25 I had a blood test done. Later that day I had some brownish discharge that lasted a few days, it then turned more like a period (heavier) for a few days, then very light for a few more days, in total lasting for 8 days in total. My Dr finally called me on Nov 4th to say that my HCG levels were low, but I didn't ask how low, and he wanted me to have another blood test done. I did it on Nov 5 and should have the results on Nov 7. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but it is so hard. I feel bloated and i have breast tenderness, but really no other symptoms. Any thoughts? = |
| Answer: This past mon. I went to the ER with bad side pain, found out I was pregnant with HCG of 21. Doctors worried that it was tubal, however they observed me for a couple days and no bleeding or any further pain, so they ruled that out, and decided it was a cyst brought on by the pregannacy that burst. Two days later my HCG was 31. Then another two days later it was 35. Here it is Sat. night almost Sun Morn. and I am so worried!!!! It sounds like the odds are againest me, and I just want to quite honestly know what others out there think, The doctors think as of Mon. (first day with 21 HCG I was 4 days late for my period.) Anyone else have a slow start in the beginning? = |
| Answer: I am going through the same thing. Period due 10/27 positive pregnancy test. Hcg was at 82 on 10/28. Tested again on 11/1 and Hcg was only at 88! We followed up with another Hcg blood test on 11/4 and numbers were at 92. I have another blood test tomorrow. Doctor said it doesn't look good. If not....does anyone know how long it takes to miscarry in this situation? It is devistating, but I don't want surgery. My doctor also fears it may be ectopic. Jnae - let me know what you find out. I'm hoping it's okay for you. = |
| Answer: Well, I got my results today and they were not good. My Dr said that my HCG levels from Oct 25 were 69 and from my second test on Nov 4 were 3. Sounds to me like a miscarriage. I just finished crying on my husbands shoulder, and we have decided that it wasn't meant to be. We are trying to keep our spirits up, and just keep trying. Good luck to all. = |
| Answer: I also have a low HCG - I am 6 weeks in and a level of 61 as of Nov 4. I had another test today and will know tomorrow. I have cramps and dark discharge since Saturday. My pregnancy symptoms are not as strong anymore. I am also sad and a bit devastated. :( = |
| Answer: I have just gone through the whole low hcg levels ordeal. My first # was 76 48 hours later 92. We had another blood test 4 days later to find out my number dropped to 72. Needless to say I started to miscarry last week. It's been 7 days and still have a light flow. Day 4 and 5 were really heavy a lot of clots. We are sad about our loss but realizes something was wrong. We just hope our 2nd try will have a happier ending. = |
| Answer: I feel for your loss and just like you I believe that if it was not meant to be there is a good reason for it. I am passing through the same sad process and have the some hopes that next time everything will be ok. I will be praying for you and me and every mom-almost-to-be. = |
| Answer: My numbers went down and they are too low for a 6+ week pregnancy. The doctor told me I will miscarry. Now I just have to wait for it to happen. Yes, I am very sad and disapointed, but hopeful that the future will give me a healthy, easy pregnancy! = |
| Answer: i have been sterilised for 5 half years i did two test they came positive and did 4 at my gps and they came back neg so we dont know what is going on can anyone tell me whats going on ples = |
| Answer: Laurie, your story gives me a small ray of hope. I had my IVF transfer on 11/4 and had an early test today (2 days earlier than they had recommended) to find that my HCG is 37. I have had nausea, cramping and some dark spotting over the past few days but now just slight twinges. I had an ectopic last summer and am very nervous. We'll see what the test in 2 days reveals but the Dr. told me that there really isnt any hope that this will end well--I wish I could drag you and your chart in front of him! Best wishes to all of you with low levels, I hope we can all be Lauries! = |
| Answer: Well.. I am 3 weeks pregnant and had a blood test 18 days past ovulation. My hcg level was 30. I went in to have blood drawn again and now I wait on pins and needles to see if this pregnancy is going to make it. It doesn't seem like there is much hope. I'm really bummed out. I wanted this so badly. Pray for me all, just as I will be for you. = |
| Answer: here is a helpful website for HCG levels..

| Answer: Has everyone had their hCG levels tested? After my first prenatal exam, I called the office to get the results of my blood tests. I asked if they had tested my hCG levels. She said they didn't routinely do that. Do most doctors check the levels only if a problem is suspected? I'm changing doctors next month because I feel that my current doctor hasn't given me enough information. I'm just wondering if that is one more thing lacking in my care? = |
| Answer: Lucky for me i specifically asked when iwas in emrg or else they would have never any reason to doan ultrasond and found out I possible have placenta previa.. my high levels of HcG at 7 weeks made them want to do an ultrasound to rule out mulitples... and determine exact date of baby.. which i was right cause they thought based on levels that i either had mulitples or was farther along... Just ask them to do one so you can ease your mind.... = |
| Answer: My HCG was 61 at 6 weeks and went down to 55 en then up to 105 on subsequent tests. In my case it was a non viable pregnancy. = |
| Answer: My wife had the egg retrieval on Nov 1, then 5 day later 4 embryo was put in (1a1b2c). 8 days later the first HCG was 6, Two days later the HCG was 12, 3 days later the HCG was 19, which is a big concern, 4 days after that the HCG is only 30... we are devastated and hoping the test tomorrow improves. I read everywhere that this is lower than low but it's still going up... the chance is not good at all but we are cling to little hope we have. = |
| Answer: My hcg at 5 weeks was 210, and 48 hrs later it was 130. I have been having light bleeding for about 12 days now, the Dr is suspecting a miscarriage. I have an appt tomorrow to confirm.. = |
| Answer: I went today to have my blood test. While it is a positive my HCG is only an 8. I'm experiencing bleeding. I have been on progestone and have been trying for 27-28 months to get pg. I've looked at all the charts and they say that at 4 wks. hcg can be as low as 4. I'm not holding out hope. = |
| Answer: Hi Laurie,
I have also experienced the same thing recently. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant through IVF treatment. 10 days after implantation my hCG reading was 48, my doctor told me it didnt look good. Three days later my hCG reading was 78. It should have doubled and hence I was mentally preparing myself for a miscarriage. Three days later I was asked to go back for another blood test and my hCG level rose to 500 which was now normal. Another week went by and the hCG level rose to 8500 which was exeptional. My 7 week ultrasound shows that everything is normal however I am worried that there may be genetic issues given the slow start. I have my 10 week check up soon and have my fingers crossed. Not all is bad with a slow start with hCG levels. Good luck! = |
| Answer: Don't worry if your hcg is low. It's more important that the number doubles every 2-3 days.
My levels are low (912 at six weeks since LMP) and not doubling so my pregnancy doesn't look viable. I have an ultrasound scheduled to check for an ectopic pregnancy but I'm hoping it shows a healthy baby developing instead!
I wish you all the best of luck!

| Answer: I think im having that same thing my hcg level was 35 and the doctor thinks i should be about 5 weeks preganet. I get another test today but i just dont know what im going to do if i loose it. Ill be devestated. = |
| Answer: I am in the same boat. I had my second ivf on Nov. 18th; Nov.30th, I was told I was pregnant. My numbers were low, so I had to go back Dec 2nd for another test. My numbers had actually dropped and I was told that I would miscarry. I'm not giving up hope though. I believe in God and I have faith in His will. My husband and I have been trying for almost four years, and we still have given up. By the way, if you don't keep your hopes up, where are you planning to keep them. Have faith and I'll keep you posted. Good luck girls! = |
| Answer: Need help! I took a hpt on 11/16 and tested pos. On 11/30 I started bleeding, heavier then spotting, but lighter then a period. This lasted 3 days. I went to my dr on that Mon and my hcg was 152 and on Wed it was 240. I also had an ultrasound and they couldn't find a fetus. Had another blood and ultrasound yesterday and hcg was 700, but no sign of anything in my uterus. I also had a very low progesterone level the first appt. it was a 5. Dr put my on med and yesterday it was 18. Dr doesn't seem to think it is ectopic, but doesn't seem to know what is going on. Has anyone had a similar experience and what was the outcome. I'm so upset, I can't sleep and it's on my mind constantly. I just want to know. Thank you. = |
| Answer: Hi.thought I'd share my situation.Took a pt. on sun.showed a +.Took one the next a.m.came out -.went to Dr.,took another pt.came out -. On thurs. I took 1 more home pt.it showed +.Finally I went back to Dr. for the hcg . it was 34. 2 days later it was 48. I've had no spotting and mild cramping on the lower left.I go back this week for more hcg tests. My first preg. I didn't even know anything about hcg levels.I sure wish I didn't now either. we are so affraid of it being ectopic. Even though it is a little early to speculate about that. It has been very helpful to read all of notes on this page. I know now that I'm not alone. Good luck to all of you!! = |
| Answer: Thought I'd share my story: After going through IUI on 12/9, I got what I thought was my period on 12/21. Went to the doc. the next day to start another cycle with injections, insemination, etc. Got a call that afternoon that I had a pos. preg. test but that my levels hCG were only 8. Have been for a number of blood tests since. HCG is doubling or more every 48 but my progesterone level is only at 4.2 - ICK. I am using prog. suppositories and have not bled in over a week but am feeling pretty blue about the whole thing. How long will it be before miscarriage? = |
| Answer: So glad to find this board, and have a chance to read all of your experiences.
I am 5 wks pregnant and have been bleeding constantly since 12/26 - about ten days after conception. The bleeding is bright red and fairly heavy, but is also constant. I am very concerned. While spotting has been part of both of my previous, and successful pregnancies, it's never lasted long, or been this heavy. Hcg yesterday was 293, have a repeat scheduled for tomorrow. Everything I've ready suggests about a 50/50 chance of a successful outcome but I feel less confident than that. Fingers crossed...I'm 39 now, and really want this baby.

| Answer: I took a home preg test a few days after missed last period and it was pos., then blood test, hcg of 301, need to go again this Wed to have it checked again, hoping it doubles and all is well, I am pretty nervous. = |
| Answer: I went to the doctor and got a blood test and they said that my blood level is too low. My last period was 12/2/04, so I think I am 6 weeks. She told me either I am miscarriaging or it's too early. Do you think it can be too early, and I had my period 12/2/04? = |
| Answer: I've also been struggling with low hcg levels. I have had two previous miscarriages (at 10 and 16 weeks) so I am on pins and needles...and now some problems again. I had a very little bit of spotting and my home pregnancy tests were coming back SO light, even a few days past when my period was to start. SO, I called dr. and he tested my hcg. Came back at 97 19 days past ovulation, We repeated the test three days later, 22 days past ovulation . The number was 286. SO...the rise was nice, but still very low for just about 5 weeks preg. (only one day away from 5 weeks at the 286). I am very certain of my conception date (unfortunately,,,i don't have that hope). SO....with my two miscarriages I don't want any false hope, I want to begin preparing myself. I just don't know if I have any hope with these numbers. My dr .did not schedule anymore hcg test....i am calling tomorrow and asking for one, I need to see if the number is still rising or not. Also, dont you think they should check progesterone??? Am I too late at 5 weeks for suppositories?? I am not having any signs of miscarriage, but no real pregnancy signs either. I just don't know if I can do this a third time...and I don't want my hopes up if there is no hope. I did have two successful pregnancies...all b4 these three episodes...I would LOVE anyone thoughts or similar ewxperience. i'm going crazy! = |
| Answer: Hi, I am back and I am sorry to hear your situations. But I can give you a little hope, after getting a blood test on 1/12/05 my level was 63. I got a second one done on 1/17/05 and it is now 516!! It went up alot. They said I must of miscalulated, but I KNOW I didn't I write it down. But anyways, I hope that gives you a little help. Anyone that want to be pregnant buddies my email is squoia@hotmail.com = |
| Answer: hi ladies. reading all of your stories is helping me through this process. stacey, i can totally empathize with you. i just found out yesterday that i was pregnant. i was spotting for 6 days dark brown and today i'm bleeding medium pink/red. took an hcg test-- 91... which is pretty low. i'm taking another one tomorrow. the dr. told me 50/50 too. i had an ectopic last june so i'm kind of weary. holmes, congrats! glad to hear everything has gone well for you. many blessings to you all who are so brave. = |
| Answer: Hi, the first time I found out that I was pregnancy I took a home pregnancy test and the result came up postive but the line was a light pink. So I took another home pregnancy test and that result was light pink. So I when to planned parenthood and they did two pregnancy test and the result where the same. So the nurse told me to come back in a week and I did and the same thing happen again. So she told me she want me to take a blood test because the line on the pregnancy test should be darker than that. But before I could go back to take a blood test my stomach began to hurt and I went to the bathroom and I saw a brownlish substance in my underware and my stomach started hurting worse
so the next moring I went back to planned parenthood and took the nurse what happen. She gave me another test and it was the same so she told me that I was problay having my period if I start to bleed heavy or have more blood clot than normal go to the emergency room. So I did and the doctor said I was having a miscarriage. = |
| Answer: Hi, ladies. Well, I started this stream several months ago in September and have been reading the posts that have gone up since. My heart broke at some and was rejoiced at others...though everyone has stayed in my prayers. Keep your spirits up and hopes even higher. I was told back in September that it was unlikely that this pregnancy would be viable...but here I am - 5 months later with a very active little boy growing inside of me. All I can say is that in the beginning when they told me it most likely wouldn't last, I stayed off my feet and really took it easy. We'll never know if that did it or not...but after miscarrying in June - that was the only thing I did differently this time around. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. = |
| Answer: just an update... hcg was doubling as it should be but i was still bleeding red. started cramping tuesday night for the first time-- felt it was a bad sign. the next day, i took another hcg test and the number fell. dr. says i am now in the process of miscarrying. no more cramps though and staying strong with the help of my wonderful husband and puppy. just can't wait till the bleeding stops so we can start trying again. = |
| Answer: Wow its sad to hear so many women going through simaliar things as myself ,,, I had a so called ectopic pregnancie in july of 2004 ,, I say so called because the doctors wouldnt wait until it was clearly seen on an ultra sound the really pushed me into taking a shot to terminate the pregnancy ,,,, they where going by my HCG levels and my progesterone levels ,,, I really didnt want to take the shot till they saw it on ultra soud to be sure ,, I been reading more info since then and I think if that happens again I will insist they wait till its clear on ultrs sound its just they want to solve it quick before it gets so big you may need surgery ,,, any way then I got pregnant again in oct of 2004 then miscarred in nov of 2004 ,, no Im scarred I got alot of symtoms of early pregnancy ,, I feel the same way I did when I was pregnant the other times but I havent taken a test yet Im scarred of another failed pregnancy I have had 3 so far ,,, plus I think I should wait a few more days before testing ,, since Im only about 9 or 10 days from when I ovulated ,,, isnt is such an awful cycle pregnant miscarraige pregnant ectopic ,, pregnant miscarraige ,, its like a yo yo I was very happy to hear one women on here say she had 2 micarraiges and now is having a normal pregnancy it gives me a little hope ,,,,l,,,,,, = |
| Answer: wishing you the best juanita. i totally can empathize with you. when they said i had an ectopic in july, they didn't see anything in the ultrasound because it was too early to tell. my hcg levels didn't go up or down. they even performed a d&c uneccessarily. when they did, there was nothing there. that's when the doctor said i should get the shot. i did and was pretty sure it was the right thing to do since i know i didn't want surgery. this time around i got a little excited b/c hcg levels were doubling. but now with this miscarriage, i'm praying that the next time will work out. i agree that hearing the positive blessings really give hope. let me know if things work out. i'll be praying for you. as for us, we'll start trying again once this miscarriage is over. = |
| Answer: Had HCG test on Feb 4th--they said my number was only 14.5 -- I am pregnant. I went in on the 6th for another HCG and it went up to 25.6--still very low. My progesterone is also low at 12.0. Doctors have told me to be cautiously optimistic. I am not bleeding/spotting--my period would have been tomorrow. I had slight cramping on the 2nd and 3rd of Feb. I'm on pins and needles worrying about these numbers! I pray that they miraculously go up!!! = |
| Answer: Hi Renee.. I am in the same boat too.. my HCG was only 15 at 4 weeks(2 weeks pc), but I have been monitered since and it has doubled appropriately every 2 days. My MD never indicated that this # was too low..it seems that HCG levels themselves vary from person to person; however, the trend is what they look for (it should double every 48 hours)..Good luck.. Hope everything goes well for both of us!! I too am hoping that my #'s go up!!! = |
| Answer: Laurie.....it seems I am in the same boat that you used to be in. At what week did you finally see the baby in the sac? I did IVF so we know our exact dates. I am 6 weeks and 3 days now from lmp, and we only saw a sac today. But I am NOT giving up hope. if you dont remember, thats ok. I just need to hear from other women in my same situation. Thank you = |
| Answer: Hi everyone, I have recently gone through ivf had a pos test on 2/22, hcg levels of 92. Went back for second test and levels were 193. I just went for a 3 test on2/28 and the levels were 466. The number should have been higher. Dr. seems to think it could have been twins and then I lost one. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I am in limbo for a week until the US. Any advice? = |
| Answer: Hello to Everyone: Here's a bit of background to my problem before I ask my question. Last Thursday I started to experience very light bleeding and bad pains in the lower right part of my abdomen, so I took a HPT; it came back +. I went to see my doctor the next day and had a beta test done. I got my results back yesterday and they were 707. I also did a repeat beta test yesterday and got my results today; they were 1339. Because I just stop taking the BC pill six weeks ago, I am not quite sure when I ovulated. I got a 'pill period' on January 19th and then got what I thought was a normal period on February 14th. Although there was one day during the February 14th period that was quite heavy, there was not clotting. My question is: Is it acceptable for my level to increase by 90% instead of by 100% or more. I did the math and found that I was 75 MIUs short of doubling. The time frame between the two tests was 70 hours. = |
| Answer: Hi to everyone who has posted here. Thank you to Laurie for starting this informative strand. I had a +HPT last thursday (32days past LMP)...went to dr on tuesday and had a -test...so they decided to do a blood test. Got a call this afternoon that my hCG level was only 35....I will be doing another blood test tomorrow...this is my first pregnancy, and so far has been a stressful one...it was good to see that some with initial low hCG levels had some sucess...like Laurie! Good luck to everyone. I'll keep you posted = |
| Answer: Hi all! I am a bit different, but my question has to do with hcg, so I figure this might be the place. I had a miscarriage on 1/28. Now 5 weeks later, my level is 7. I take my temp and had a dip on the 22nd. & days later is when I had the blod test. Is it possible that I am pregnant again with a number of 7 a week after implantation? The nurse told me it was proably from the miscarriage still, but most people have their levels at 0 in a couple of weeks. PLEASE!!! = |
| Answer: Hi, I'm glad I found this site because I didn't know my problem was as common as it is. I had a frozen embryo transfer on 25/2, on 09/3 I went for my blood test and my hcg level was 23.6, i was retested on 11/3 and my level was 25.8, i have been told its unlikely to be ongoing but I an trying to hope for the best. I go back on 18/3. I've already had 2 ectopics really don't want to wait for a miscarriage to happen. Am i hoping for a miracle? = |
| Answer: A few responses give me a little hope, even though I realize my chances are quite low that my pregnancy is continuing. Am anxious to hear how Renee and others are making out now... Best of luck to you.
Here is my story: Nearly 2 weeks ago I got a faint positive on a hpt. I had light, brown spotting much of that week which led me to do the hpt, even though we were doubtful I was pregnant. (We were going to start trying for our second in April actually! Not on birth control however and so of course a pregnancy was possible). Anyway, spotting continued most days until it stopped for 2 consecutive days. Then, one night I had a few brown blood spots followed by a little red spotting before going to bed. I awoke at 2 am with some cramping and a little more red spotting. That is the only cramping I have had to date. The morning brought more red bleeding which got heavier and heavier - and continuous. I had an hcg blood test that day.
This lasted a total of 3 days and I had one or 2 clots along the way with a final clot which seemed to coincide with the end of the heavy bleeding. Got the results of my hcg and it was only a 6.5! Yikes. Very low. However, the blood test could have been done as early as 17 or 18 days post conception. From what I have read, it is a possibility, though not as common, that the hcg could register very low at that point in the pregnancy. However, my midwife immediately assumed a miscarriage in spite of what the doctor suggested (a series of hcg tests) and no other tests have been done. I accepted her diagnosis and needless to say we had one very emotional day after a very stressful previous couple of days.
Now, 3 days later I get occasional light, red spotting. I haven't had any pain. The reason I am even looking up info and found my way to this forum is because I feel pregnant, especially increasingly tender breasts. They feel more sore at night, which is just like my first pregnancy. I know you can continue to have symptoms of pregnancy after miscarriage, but ones that increase, esp after such a low hcg?
Maybe it is foolish to keep wondering, but maybe, just maybe I have a subchorionic bleed or some other explanation for what has happened along with an early low level hcg? Any thoughts? Thanks for listening!! = |
| Answer: I am I guess 6 weeks pregnant. I'm a little worried. my levels had been doing ok but started off at 55 at 13 days past ovulation. they went to 130 two days later then 477 3 days later then to 833 40 hours later then to 1333 48 hours after that. My concern is with the last two reading since they did not double exactly. Should I be this worried about this? = |
| Answer: my pregnancy test was 152 what does that mean = |
| Answer: I had a preg test done and i was low posotive so the doc says my hcg was 10 after 13 days of having AI done, doc said it was low and im due for another test in 4 days time. = |
| Answer: Hi everyone. Seems like this is a really good place to talk about what we are going through...even if it's just to get it off of our chests. My situation is this- I have PCOS and don't get a period every month and my doc told me a long time ago that I wasn't going to get pregnant. I also have hypothyroidism. My hubby and I pretty much gave up on getting pregnant and accepted the fact that we'd just be the favorite aunt and uncle who spoiled the heck out of our neices and nephews. Well, for some reason I took a pregnancy test in the beginning of Feb. It came back negative. About 2 weeks after Valentines Day my mother called and told me she had a feeling I was pregnant. So, I took a test to see.....and it was positive...I was so excited I took 3...all positive. After confirming the pregnancy with my doc he ran the usual bloodwork and told me my hcg levels were only 50 and should have been higher. A few days later I had a few tiny red spots in my underwear so my doc told me to go to the ER. They tested my HCG and it was at 1964. The ER doc told me he didn't see a baby and that he was going to do a DNC. I freaked and told him no and left the hospital. TWO days later I went to another doc who did an ultrasound in his office and told me....there is a baby ....there is the heart beat...and there is the nice round sac keeping it safe. I should have left well enough alone...but that following Monday I kept my appointment with my old doc...the one who agreed with the ER doc on the D&C...I guess just to prove him wrong. Well the Untrasound tech told me and my doc that there was no fluid in the sac (another doc looked at the results and called it a viable pregnancy and said nothing about missing fluid)and he tested my HCG levels and said they only went up 250 points in 72 hours. So now the old doc said it's going to be a mis or a deformed baby. I called the new doc and told him what I did....he wasn't mad...he just told me that I can choose whatever doc I want but I should choose one and stick with him. My new doc told me that HCG levels do have to rise to keep a pregnancy going...but the fact that my baby looked fine just 3 days ago tells him that my pregnancy is going along as planned. So, I pretty much have no idea what is going to happen here. I go for another ultrasound Thursday to see if all still looks well and growing. If anyone wants to talk...you can email me at Jenfer1106@aol.com. Thanks for listening and believe in the power of positive thinking. = |
| Answer: Oh my - what an ordeal Jen. Sorry. I don't have much time to write... just wanted to say I am pulling for you and that little baby as are all the readers I am sure. With my first pregnancy, I really liked that my doc didn't do too much testing or interfere in the natural process of it all. Unfortunately on this site there are plenty of us who have had some negative experiences like yours and have had extra tests, sometimes causing unnecessary worry. BUT it sounds like you are probably very early in your pregnacy and things may very well be going along just fine. Keep us posted! Keep up that positive thinking!!! (And make sure you are comfortable with the doc you choose...) = |
| Answer: Hello all. I'm experiencing the same unfortunate issue as most of you. My first hcg level was low, 74, and the second was only 119, 3 days later. Today it was 104. =( So clearly, not good. My question for you all is, does anyone know how long it could take for me to start bleeding? I've actually been lightly spotting since the day I found out I was pg - about 9 days now, but still not bleeding. I have basically lost all hope and am anxious to get this over with. I'm praying for that the rest of you have more positive ending to your stories. Also please know that all of your contributions to this site have helped me to stay sane over the past 10 days. Thanks! = |
| Answer: Hi Tracy. I'm so sorry for what you are experiencing. I wish I could offer you answers on the bleeding if you are m/c... If you are, it can vary from person to person it seems. Did your doc or midwife offer any info? Keep us posted... just wanted to say I was thinking about ya... = |
| Answer: I wrote earlier to say that my 1st 2 hcg levels were low, my 3rd level was 212 at 4 wks which was still low, all the various medics I spoke to at the hosp thought it was defo ectopic, been for a scan today (5wk 3d) and saw the yolk sac in the right place along with a slight flickering which was apparently a heartbeat. Its such a relief for it not to be ectopic, as I have had 2 in past, however its early days yet and I am still woried because of the slow start, but there is always hope and I suppose just because levels start low can still result in a success, so fingers crossed. = |
| Answer: I have had 2 miscarriages, and I think I am in the midst of #3. My LMP was 02/19/05, on 03/22/05 realized I was 2 days late on my period. Took a home pregnancy testx2 and the results were a very light +. Went to my family Dr. and got a serum hcg test, was + for pregnancy. Then on 03/26 started spotting tan discharge, this has gone on for 2 days now, this morning I went to the Dr. and had an hcg level drawn, is was 41. I am getting another level drawn in 2 days, but I am sure with such a low level when I am 5 weeks pregnant I will be miscarrying anytime now. The one good thing that could come out of this, is the fact that I have been unable to find a Dr. before who would be agressive about exploring why I've miscarried (I've heard, "you're young..you'll have more.") and finally this Dr. is aggressive and we can finally find out why I have had all these losses. Already made an appointment in 4 weeks with a specialist to start finding out what's going on. If anyone wants to email me, and discuss their similar situations, feel free: kacylynn@yahoo.com = |
| Answer: HI i HAD MY 2ND BLOOD TEST MY HCG WAS ONLY 26, DOC SAID THIS PREG IS GOING TO MISCARRY.I MUST GO FOR ANOTHER TEST TODAY.I DO CRAMPS BUT NO PERIOD YET AND MY BREASTS ARE EXTRMELY SORE, CAN ANYONE HELP? = |
| Answer: Hello everyone. I hope I can offer a little hope to you guys. I've had four children and six early miscarriages. I am now nine weeks pregnant. At 4 wks my hcg was 40. Two days later, it was 138. At 6 wks it was only 3503, and two days later it had only risen to 4500. No heartbeat could be seen at 6 wks 2 days. It looked pretty hopeless. But after a prayerful week, I had another ultrasound, and there was a heartbeat! The nurse was shocked. Since then, my hcg has only creeped up gradually, but I had another ultrasound at 8 wks 2 days and the heartbeat was still there and going strong. The fetus measures too small, and there's some blood behind the placenta, but my doctor says a heartbeat above 100bpm is all he needs to see. Our little peanut's heartbeat is 150bpm. I have a friend who was told she was miscarrying and needed a d&c because she was bleeding and they couldn't find a heartbeat, but when she was actually on the operating table her doctor had a bad feeling about it and did another ultrasound and found a heartbeat! Just don't give up! Doctors are great, but just human. Treat your body as if you are pregnant if you believe you are, and don't let them do a d&c or medications to induce a miscarriage unless absolutely necessary. Remember, miracles do happen! Just wait for yours. God bless you all. = |
| Answer: hi i went for my 3rd blood test and it went up to 90 from 26 in 4 days doc said it is still low and might be a emty sac can advice? = |
| Answer: I went in 3/29 for blood test. the results showed 172 hcg level. They told me to come back in a week and re-test. Before the blood test i took 3 hpt and all were positive. Is there anything to be worried about. I just hope the number increases by next week. The nurses said my hcg needs to be @ 900 before they schedule a prenatal exam. Has this happened to anyone else = |
| Answer: I have just done my 2nd IVF. I lost the first at 10 weeks also started off with low numbers. I tested at 12 days after transfer it was 37, did a further test at 15 days it was 100 and another at 19 days it was 324, I had my first scan today, there was no hearbeat and it looks like an empty sac. My HCG is 770 which is increasing but not enough to sustain a pg of 6 weeks so I will go back on Monday for another scan and then posssibly surgery to remove the ectopic. This will be my 3rd pg loss, we have been ttc for 5 years.
Thank you for letting me vent.
I pray that all those with low numbers go on to have succesful pg and if not may we have the strength to carry on. = |
| Answer: I am going thru the same thing. On 3/22 - HCG - 109.2 4 wks 0 days
3/24 - HCG - 189.9 4 wks 2 days
3/27 - HCG - 371 4 wks 6 days
3/29 - HCG - 538 5 wks 1 day
I will get my blood drawn tomorrow.I had bleeding and clotting on Sunday and Monday. I have been spotting since then. I want to believe this is going to become a viable pregnancy. But, I am preparing for another miscarriage. We have been battling infertilty for 5 yrs. We lost a baby last year at 12 wks. I just need to be around other who understand what we are going thru.

| Answer: Do decline in Hcg ALWAYS mean you will miscarry? = |
| Answer: Lyndia- I hate to be the person to say Yes, but when I m/c'd on 3/3... my dr. told me that a decline in hcg #s is 99% "inevitable abortion". I am so sorry- it was the worst news I had ever heard! :( Hang in there!!!! = |
| Answer: Hi Laurie,
I had IVF done too (2nd. try) my pregnancy test was positive but the hcg levels were low, as per the doctors, I had 30 on the first test and 2 days later I had 33, the doctor asked me to stop taking the progesterone because the pregnancy is not going to survive. I don't know what to think or what to do... Any help?? - Thanks - Sara = |
| Answer: This site is wonderful - thank you Laurie. I have just completed my 1st IVF cycle and had my 1st pg test 11 post transfer (transfer was a 6 day blasocyst) and the HCG is 37. Dr told me I have a less than 5% chance of a viable pregnancy and I just need to wait for the miscarriage. I have to wait 4 days for another blood test and I'm at my wits end. It's nice to know I'm not alone and my prayers are will all of you. = |
| Answer: MY PERIOD WAS 3/16/05 FOR 5 DAY IT WAS NORMAL AND THEN ON 3/28/05 I STARTED LIGHT BLEEDING WITH CRAMPS FOR 5DAY MY PG TEST WAS POS AND THE HCG LEVEL WAS 125 I WENT BACK TO THE DR'S FOR ANOTHER HCG AND IT WAS 147 COULD THIS BE AND ECTOPIC, MISCARRIAGE OR JUST AN REALIER EARLY PREGNANCY = |
| Answer: Jackie; It is high for you to just have a period on 3/15/05. It is still really early, but did the doctor request you to come back to test it again?? Good Luck.PS Since it is not that early it will not be that high. So it is a good sign!! = |
| Answer: Hi Laurie,
I am pregnant and my hCG levels are lower than normal. After 2 weeks my test showed a level of just 23. I was told that its not so much a single value but the increase in the hCG level which should be monitored. the hCG levels have to double every 72 hrs, thats the important criterion for a normal pregnancy.I am sure you are doing fine & you will have a perfectly healthy baby! best of luck! = |

| Answer: This is for all who think their beta numbers might be low...I did IVF and had a 3 day transfer. Unfortunately I did lose the baby at 9.5 weeks due to a subchronic hemorrhage which is very rare. The baby was totally fine and growing like a weed until the tear in my placenta. Three doctors (including two specialists) told me this was a fluke and very rare. I really don't believe that my low HCG numbers contributed to my miscarriage. Hope this helps.
My first pregnancy my beta numbers were...
10 dpt 3day transfer: 22
12 dpt 3 day transfer:102
14 dpt 3 day transfer: 318
16 dpt 3 day transfer: 992
I was very pregnant, so I hope that helps anyone.
I am pregnant again and this time my beta numbers are 10 day 3dt: 103, 12 day 3dt: 281. So I'm hoping all works out!

| Answer: I now have hope that my pregnancy may make it. Here is my story: I was supposed to have AF on 03/30, and I took a pregnancy test on the 29th that had a faint line. I took another one that had a faint line, however, it was the same day so I waited to do another one. I took one on Sat. the 2nd, and the digital reading came up pregnant in about 45 seconds. Plus that was the only test that me and my husband read together. So it made even more special for me. I started spotting a little bit on Sat., and on Sun. I had some more spotting. I had a cramp so I just freaked and went to the hospital. The hospital tested my HCG level which was 264 @ 4 weeks and 3 days. The doctor stated that it was low, and to contact my OB. I went to my OB doctor on the 4th, and he said during the exam that he could tell I was pregnant. He said since my HCG levels were off the question is if the baby is alive or not. I did the beta test and my HCG level was 520, and my prog. was 15.2. She said it was not great, but it was not real bad either. They don't know exactly what is going to happen. I did have some hope since it rose up so much in 1 day. I go back on Monday the 11th to see how my levels are and if they are rising. I have been praying that everything will be ok. I must admit I am completly scared!!! I did not know anything about HCG levels with my son so I never was worried, but this one is a different story. Please add me and the baby to your prayer list that everything will be ok. If you think I have a chance, or have anything encouraging to say please please email them!!! I need all the encouraging I can get right now. I hope everyone has success in TTC, and those who have low levels are already on my prayer list. Thank you for looking at my story. Have a GREAT Day!!! = |
