Are there any natural ways to increase the odds of twins? I want to have a place where we can share information about ways we can swing the odds in our favor. I am not talking about clomid, so please no lectures. Thanks! ↓

I have heard that yams, not just sweet potatoes...but a wild yam supplement could increase your chance. Also, there is Vitex. ↑

I too have heard some very positive things about Vitex and Yams.... Keep in mind that real, true Yams aren't the things you see in your grocery store. Those are actually sweet potatoes. I bought my yams off of an internet store when we were ttc. ↑

Thanks for the reply Mama Bean and K . Were your wild yams in a pill form? Thats what I have. I dont know if it will help with twins, but if not the wild yams have many other positive effects. Thats the great thing about hebal supplements. ↑

Nope.. mine were actual whole yams. If I remember correctly, it is the skin that has all the nutrient properties... although i can't be positive. ↑

That's what I have heard also, that's its the skin of the wild yams that you want. Mama-bean, do you mind sharing where you would even buy wild yams on the internet? I have never heard of that before...learn something new everyday. I know you can buy Wild Yam pills, but I dont know if those contain the skins though. I'm starting Vitex next month and will be taking it for 6 months, so we'll see if it works. If anything...I would just love for it to regulate my cycle...since its crazy! ↑

I've seen you on various threads...never quite caught the facts of how many children you have and whether any of them ARE twins. ↑

Honestly, I don't remember... It was a holistic ( sp) type store that had a local branch, and they had a web site that I ordered from.... Maybe check your local herbal store, natural foods store? I have 1 daughter, and before we finally went the medical rout to help with infertility issues we tried all of of these herbal remedys. I did notice that my ovulation was a bit more frequent when I ate yams ALL THE TIME. They get boring after a while! so I would think that they would indeed help if you already ovulated and wanted twins... ↑

Mama Bean are you still trying for more children? Thanks for the info I will look for the whole wild yam, my supplement is wild yam root... Maybe if I think it is helping it really will, the placebo effect... ↑

Yes, we are currently ttc #2, and have been for around 6 months. I'm pretty stubborn, so I will continue with this herbal rout for the next 6 months before resorting, once again, to a prescription... I'm really hopeful that it will work this time! If I learn anything new, find any great websites, etc, I'll be sure to let you know! ↑

There's also a tincture for the wild yams. It's in a bottle with a dropper and you just squeeze it in hot water to make a tea and you can sip it all day. It doesn't taste that bad. You can also get a chaste tree berry (vitex) one and drink them together, but you shouldn't use the wild yams until AFTER you ovulate because I've heard that they essentially force out ripe eggs from your ovaries, so you don't wanna do it until your body is already ready to O. Hope that helps! Oh and I got the tinctures from a local health store but I'm sure its online too. ↑

Mama Bean, good luck I really hope rhe natural rout works for you this time, but if not it is good to know that science is there to help out. I really admire you trying the natually first, most would be too impatient. AMANDA thank you for the info.....I did not know that about the yams. I have also heard that tinticures work better than pills, so I will look for that,
Just wanted to let you know.. I've been drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea 2X a day for a few months now, and hubby has been taking a good Multi-vitamin as well as wearing Boxers, and this morning we got a positive pregnancy test. Could be a fluke of nature ( I ovulate very sporatically) or it could be the tea.... But we are pregnant! ↑
Yeah Mama Beans! That is wonderful!! I am so happy for you! Keep us posted! Congratulations!! ↑

I have been researching Wild Yam and it's value when trying to concieve twins. I have read some conflicting information. Firstly it seems that some types of Yam are actually traditionally used as a contraceptive, not so handy if you're trying to conceive.
Check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/p-eople/highlights/010607_twins.shtml- for details of a West African village that has a high instance of twins and attributes it to Agida, a yam like vegetable. I have not yet found Agida available as a supplment yet. It seems it you are taking Wild Yam you should only take it after ovulation.
I would go along with the Vitex tip though.
Hope this helps ↑

In response to the Wild Yams...the insurance company Aetna Intellhealth web reports the following so be cautious once you get pregnant.
Pregnancy And Breast-Feeding
Wild yam cannot be recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding because of the risk of birth defects or spontaneous abortion. Pregnant women should avoid tinctures because of the high alcohol content (15 percent to 90 percent). ↑

Hello Everyone, Glad to hear someone else is trying to go about twining Naturally instead of using Clomid. I have been reaserching the Natural ways to increase the odds of twining and many site include increased dairy intake, folate and calcuim suppliments and someone also told me about Rasberry Leaf Tea. Not sure if any of this works, so if anyone can confirm any of these please do! Good Luck! :-) ↑

I have received information from a lady which deals in natural medicine and this is what she has suggested....Herbs such as the red raspberry leaf and chaste tree berry are most used (by the lady) along with green tea, nettle leaf, ladies mantle and evening primrose... Good Luck and baby dust to all! Mel :-) ↑

I don't know how old the rest of you ladies are, but I am a young mother who is looking to get pregnant with my next or last child(ren). I would like to have twins, but I don't know if the chances make it too small for me because I am younger. I would really like to naturally have twins.... really excited. I will be trying to concieve next September/October. Any advice ladies? ↑

Hi Aalysa, when I was pregnant last year, I took Vitex (chasteberry) black cohosh, and evening primrose oil along with a prenatal vitamin and got pregnant the next month. I also BD'd with my husband every day, and put a pillow under my hips for a half hour and I drank lots of water and used OPKs so I knew when Oday was.......unless you have another problem preventing you from getting pregnant there's no reason why you should be pregnant soon:) ↑

MommaD - Did you fall pregnant with a singleton or multiple? I have heard that Vitex is used to regulate periods and evening primrose has also been recommended to help with twins as well. I have been told to take red raspberry leaf tea as well and have Yam Root herbs to have as tea which is also supposed to increase the chances. Dairy foods are also recommended so drinking lots of milk and eating lots of yoghurt. Anyone have any other ideas?? Thanks and baby dust to you all!! ↑

I keep finding conflicting information about Wild Yam Supplements. I started taking after ovulation, but when do I stop? Heard it will cause spontaneous abortion..?? Now I am scared I made a terrible mistake. Please advise. Thanks! ↑
