I'm 20 weeks today - According to the Doc I'm due Oct 13th so I'm sticking to every Sunday to change my week : ) I go for my u/s on May 30th - YAY! I'll be happy with whatever God blesses us with, as long as it's healthy. But I would just love a little boy - then I'll have one of each. As far as the names... We'll have to name it after my father-in-law if it's a boy - Ignazio (Nazio for short) not to crazy about the name. If it's a girl, I'm opting for Michela. I mentioned this on the other Oct Mom's forum - are we all moving over to the "Third Trimester" topic once we're around our 26th week?? ↑

Hey Miss P, I don't know how you stand it being on bedrest. I'm supposed to be having my feet up most of the time because of this vein problem I am having, and it is not easy to do. Well plus I have two other kids, so let's get real here. About my husband, he was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago with brain tumours, he has two in the two different sides by the time they found it, so there was no operating, said they couldn't. Gave him a year to live. He did radiation and he still does chemo 5 days out of every month. We were told we would have to sperm bank, but as we already had two kids decided that was ok, we were done. Well low and behold if he didn't pass the one year mark, he's still working, looks better than before he was diagnosed, and gets me pregnant! My miracle baby. IF you want to read my husband's story girls it's at typicallycanadian.com, just enter the site and click on the stories. His name is Bob, he's the firefighter. Take care everyone. ↑

I though I wanted a girl but now that I know it's a boy, I feel so happy! Saird, you really are having a little miracle! I will keep your husband and family in my thoughts and prayers. ↑

Youngbabymama, nice to have you aboard, you certainly are starting early! Is everything going ok for you? Catsmommy, thanks for reading the story, cancer has really changed our lives for the better, oddly enough.

Hi just thought I'd pop by & say hello if that's ok as I'm due in October - 22nd :-) This is my 2nd baby I have a 20 month DD Grace who is our little answer to prayer after going through 3 miscarriages before she came along. My 12wk scan showed slightly too much nuchal translucency fluid at baby's neck so that has un-nerved us a bit but while it's scary that there's a risk something might be wrong, they also told us the chances are that baby is perfectly healthy so we're staying positive that baby is ok. Everything else looked good other than the fluid at the neck. Declined an amnio as don't want invasive testing. Got my 20wk scan on 6th June can't wait but nervous too. My bump is growing fast which is lovely :-) It's nice to meet everyone - did someone mention cloth nappies? We use them with Grace - got them from totsbots.com (a UK website mind you so might not be best for US girls?) they're called bamboozles and are made of bamboo! They're so lovely & soft and easy to use (fasten with velcro with elasticated legs & waist) and she wears an outer cover to protect her clothes. You use a biodegradable liner inside which you flush down the loo when you change the nappy and they just machine wash very easy. She's worn them since she was born & they're fab. They come in 2 sizes so she's in size 2 now leaving the size 1 nappies ready for our new baby to use come October as will likely be a small overlap before Grace is potty trained. They seem expensive when you buy them as you pay a big amount in one go but work out cheaper over time especially if you have more than one child. I'm not a hard & fast environmentalist & if they hadn't worked out we'd have used disposables but I was glad they did work out as I think they're fab :-) Anyhoo I'm rambling sorry! Hi everyone! xxx ↑

Hey Everyone! I'm afraid I'm not an October mum - I'm due in June, however I just wanted to post a message for Alison. Me too I'm from Scotland and I started the first three months of my pregnancy in France before moving back. We went through quite a tough time, (this is my first baby) as we came back in the 99th percentile for the nuchal scan with our baby's fold measuring > 3.5mm. I am 30 this year, but even so that put our risk quite high for Trisomy 21 and far more worryingly for other Trisomy's with particularly bad outcomes. As the hospital we were at had a really good record for CVS procedures we went ahead after much debate - definitely wasn't an easy decision, but eventually we came back with everything clear. I wanted to tell you this, because I know that one of the things that helped us most was hearing positive outcomes from people in similar situations especially considering our risk factor was particularly bad, yet still our results came back "normal" - (I hate using that word) for chromosones. All scans since have been good with no signs of problems in other areas such as the heart or liver and we look forward to meeting our baby boy in 3 weeks, (if due dates are anything to go by). I really hope this message helps you in your "moments". I know what you are going through and I totally admire your positivity! I'm sure everything will be fine :) Good luck to you and all October Mommies! ↑

Hi Lou_and_Bump nice to meet you :-) Thank you so much for sharing your story you're right it really helps to hear people say they had the same thing and baby is healthy I am so happy for you but feel bad for you that you had all the worry too! Thank you for the positive story :-) Our measurement was 4mm on the first scan (12wks) then had another scan later the same day to confirm and it was 4.2mm. The lady who scanned me said she's seen up to 8mm which would really be concerning and very high risk which helped to hear but it's still scary - just got to keep positive - thanks again and all the best for the birth of your lovely baby boy! I'm so glad he is well and so pleased for you - not long to wait now :-) xxxx ↑

Hello all! Just thought I'd join in the fun! My husband and I are anxiously awaiting our "little man" who is supposed to be here around October 7. The scans say anywhere from Sept 29 till October 4, so who knows!? I wanted to respond to Allison. Our little guy also has a "soft marker" for downs, an echogenic focus on his heart (a bright spot), but after an hour and a half ultrasound yesterday, (talk about uncomfortable!!!) ; ) and checking over every square centimeter of him, we were told that with only one marker, the odds are very very low for any chromosomal problems. I hope this helps. We decided against amnio, also, but feel very confident that everything is okay, Godwilling! Good luck to all of you! By the way, what do you all think about Ely James? My husbands stuck on it, and it's growing on me. : ) ↑

Hi Amy! Welcome aboard- I am apart of the welcoming committee since I am always on! ha! :) Congrats on your little guy! I am so happy to hear everything is looking so good! Is the name pronounces E-lie or Eel-ee? The reason I ask is I am from MN and there is a place called ELY, MN which is Eel-ee. I would assume it is Eli(y) now I can't remember how you spelt it! ha! I think Eli(y) E-lie James is a great name! ↑

Hi Ladies!! Got my u/s this morning - it's a boy! We are thrilled!! Now we'll have one of each! According to the measurements of the u/s, I'm now measuring at 22w 2d, instead of 20w 5d - now due Oct 3rd. Hmmm... I think I'll just stick to my original due date of the 13th. My main concern of course was the health of the baby! The heart rate is 145 and beating strong! Everything else is mearsuring out ok - whew!! EJ - your next!! Can't wait to hear how your appt went!! Good Luck ↑

Welcome Aboard Amymay! And congrats Catsmommy! My measurements always show further ahead too, but I'm sticking to the original as well, since they like to scream 'induction' at ya around here if you're overdue, which is not something I am interested in at all. I figure when the baby is ready to come, it will. ↑
Name: Alison | Date: May 31st, 2008 9:25 AM
Hi amymay thanks for the encouragement - I'm glad they were able to reassure you that the odds are very low with just the one soft marker, though I imagine an hour and a half US would be sore for you and tiring! I'm also curious like ejmeskan to know how you pronouce Ely - a friend of mine has a son called Eli spelled with an i is that how you'd pronouce it also? Cool name :-) ....................................-...........................CatsMommy- hooray you are having a boy that is such exciting and lovely news!!! :-) So glad to hear all is looking healthy and well! I think I'd stick with the original date too, I've been told the earlier scans are more accurate for dating as later on the sizes can vary more? You must be feeling so happy and relieved that all is well yay! ............................I can't wait for my 20wk scan this coming Friday (6th) but I am getting more nervous the closer it gets! xxxx ↑

Hi ladies! Just stopping in to see how everyone is doing. I will be 22 weeks on wednesday & my baby girl is so active, especially in the evening. I love being able to feel her move around daily now. Even though I already have a 9yr. old son it still amazes me how we have life growing inside of us & the miracle that surrounds it all, we are all truely blessed. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, I'll chat with you all later! ↑
Name: JNFR614 | Date: Jun 1st, 2008 6:37 AM
P.S. Please stop by Joeys thread- going out of my mind & starting to worry- & send her some love & encouragement- she really needs it from us. ↑

Hi ladies!!! The ultrasound went great! From what we can tell (and we aren't docs or radiologists) all is just fine. Even though our appt was right after the radiologist wasn't at the hospital to read the scan...I am in a town of 6000 so that is how they down it here! We opted to not find out the sex again! So we will know in Oct! Funny thing is that my estimated DD was Oct 18th and the US DD was Oct 18th which is rare! That was my mom's due date with my sister and my Grandpa's b-day so it does have some significance!! FUN! Baby was not very cooperative for the poor lady though...SUPER low and face down so we barely have any good shots!!!! Oh well- he/she is an ACTIVE little bean!!! It's weird because I still can't feel a ton of movement like I did with my son but I think that is because this one is so low! Gosh I love being PG...I really really love it! Have a great day! Oh and I got FRIED yesterday!! My hubby and I were freaks putting SPF 50 on our son every 3 min (not really) but forgot to put any on ourselves! ↑
Name: Alison | Date: Jun 2nd, 2008 11:12 AM
Hi everyone! JNFR614 you're having a little girl? How lovely! You're right it is a miracle it amazes me too that we have a new life growing inside us :- I will have to look at Joey's thread, is she a friend from this post too? I will look for it :-) ........... ejmeskan that's wonderful to hear about your great U/S! Sorry baby wasn't co-operating though! WOW you got the due date right and it sounds like a special day indeed! ;-) I wonder if my baby is very low down also as I'm sure my movements are more "gentle" than with Grace but it's probably me just being impatient for them to get stronger they probably weren't any different last time! LOL about the SPF 50 I usually am stringent (sp?) about putting suncream on Grace but forget about me (I have pale skin!) Though being in Scotland it's not usually in issue lol! ............... BTW has anyone here ever used a "nipplete"? I had real problems trying to breastfeed Grace partly as my milk took ages to come in but also having inverted nipples didn't help. Tried & tried but had to give up in the end (expressed milk until my supply dried up) The nipplete is meant to help "pull out" your nipples. I used it a bit before conceiving again and have been using it since as it says it's fine to use while pregnant just not recommmended in the last 2 months incase your body gets confused and starts producing milk to early so I will stop well in time. Just wondered if anyone else had used it maybe I'll post a question to see what other ladies experience of it is? My 20 wk scan is only 4 sleeps away I am so nervous but pushing the nerves away! Got to believe all will be perfect :-) Again nice to meet everyone thank you for making me feel welcome! xxxx ↑
