Placenta placement

Has anyone been told their placenta is low, right over their cervix? My u/s tech told me that it was low yesterday but in time it should float up. I am not sure what it means, but I do know it should be at the top of the uterus. Can anyone tell me what this means for me and my baby. I don't see my doctor until next week.

When the placenta covers the cervix it is referred to as "Placenta Previa". I had partial Previa in my first pregnancy but typically it will move up higher as mine did. I was put on "pelvic rest" for a few months. The only risk involved if it does not move up by delivery is that you would need a c-section since the placenta would be in the way for a vaginal delivery. They will monitor you via ultrasound until it moves. Good luck.

Kmoselle, I just got the same info from my Dr. He said b/c it's "Partial Placenta Previa" that most likely it will move away from the cervix as the uterus grows. You just have to rest your pelvic area and watch for bleeding. Have your GYN monitor it via ultra sound for each visit so you know where it's at and when you can stop "watching out" for that "area".
