Post Partum Menstrual irregularities

My first baby was born naturally 6 weeks premature in October 2007. My post partum bleeding lasted for nearly 3 months after the birth! My Gynae checked that I had no placenta in the uterus and said that everything looked fine. After a while my cycle seemed to get back to normal. Recently however, my cycle is completely irregular. I went for my annual pap smear which came back normal, but when my menstruation started last month it just didn't stop. I spot every two or three days and inbetween have thick, dark brown discharge. It does not have an odour. I also have slight menstrual cramps every now and then. My cycle before falling pregnant was always so normal, and we had no trouble at all faling pregnant. My preterm birth was also a mystery to the doctors. What on earth is gong on?!

Are you taking any birth control? What kind of check did your GYNO give you? Maybe you need to get an ultrasound done just to be sure there is nothing wrong. Also, I know this sounds gross, but are you getting any blood clots during your period? Bigger ones could (like a quarter size or more) be some placenta still coming out. Could be a cyst as well.
