I'm so glad that I found this site. I have just been told that I will start weekly p17 injections at 16 weeks (I'm at 13 now) and I couldn't find any info on it. I had my first son at 41 weeks via induction and eventually c-section and my 2nd son was a bit more complicated. My water broke at 25 weeks and I spent 5 weeks on hospital bedrest before having to deliver at 30 weeks. (He's doing great now) Are there any side effects other than at the injection site? ↑
Only two side effects I've noticed - the injection site and then the hormonal rollercoaster. The injection site on my right seems to not be as bad as my left. I have a lump on my left & it tends to be itchy all the time. The hormonal rollercoaster is good & bad - the day after the shot I feel like I could cry at any given moment...followed by being ultra crabby...but by the next evening the "good" hits! Good being the fluctuation of hormones tends to put me more in the mood for time alone with my hubby. Sorry if that's a bit too much info...but there is an "upside" (in my book) to this weekly shot! I'm almost 25 weeks now...so I'll be going on shot # 7 this week! ↑
I just received P17 shot # 2 yesterday. Last week I felt pretty "normal" (relatively speaking , of course) until about four days post shot, then I started crying over the dumbest things. This time, at 24 hours post shot, I am sooooooooo tired, crabby and crying easily. The tired bothers me more then anything. I was already easily tired before the shots, but they seem to have made it worse.
Worth it? Of course. However, I'm hoping that as my body adjusts, the side effects will decrease. Really hoping.
Oh, and as a side note, I was TOTALLY freaked out by how "bad" the shot was going to hurt, after reading various accounts online. I barely felt the first one and yesterdays just barely stung. i am a little tender today, but nothing unbearable. I was worried for nothing!
BTW, I'm 18 weeks now. I had PPROM at 20 weeks last time with a twin pregnancy. Delivered at 23 weeks and my son, surviving twin, is now 7. Hoping these shots get me past 23 weeks! ↑
Not sure if anyone is still watching this topic...I am so glad I found this forum. If nothing else reading everyone's experiences has helped me feel comfortable with going forward with the shots. My son was born at 33w 4d after I went into pre-term labor at 27 weeks (and the next 5 weeks in the hospital). He is a happy and healthy 3 1/2 year old. I am currently 13 weeks with a 4cm cervix...funny how that is the best number in the world! The ultrasound tech printed me a pic of it to carry around with me! I will be starting the shots in 3 weeks and go thru 36 weeks. I am nervous about the side effects. My doc said nausea is a side effect and the thought of going through that after I am just starting to feel good after 7 weeks of that stuff is a bit unnerving. Anyone else with that side effect? Really glad to hear everyones positive experiences so far...good luck to all. ↑
Bensmamma and other girls who are pregnant and using progesterone, how are you doing???? Hoping all is well and you have LONG cervixes! :) UPdate us, please! ↑
Hello all, I am really happy to hear everyone's story about getting the shots. I am also getting the progestrone shots weekly, After having 3 miscarriages, and one of them with a cerclage, i went to see another high risk OBGYN and he suggested that i get the cerclage again, and also start me off with the progestrone shots. Right now i am currently 22weeks, and i am holding strong, but i still get nervous, and still thinking that i am going to loose my little girl again, but i have strong supportative friends and family that tells me everything is going to be ok. That is why i am so happy to read about everybodys experience because it makes me stay positve with the pregnancy. ↑
33 Weeks today!! Started the progesterone shots at 17 weeks. As a precaution my Dr had me get the steroid shot last week. I go in weekly right now they may bump it to twice a week because I started to have early signs of labor - but so far so good. Shooting for mid-Sept. Due date is the 22nd, but Dr says we schedule the C-Section as early as the 12th! I can't wait for my lil' Will to arrive...but at the same time I'd prefer that we waited until then :) One preemie is enough & she just turned 2! It's been a crazy few weeks...and the next 7 are just going to get crazier...but then it's all worth it!! ↑

Hello all, well i just went to the doctors today and had my ultrasound and saw the doctor, well it seems that my cervix is shortening, but not by much it is now 2.9 but to me it still scary knowing my situation. I am so nervous so now i am on a complete bed rest at home until my doctors appt.. the doctor hopes i lasts to 28 weeks, but i would like to go full term but only time will tell ↑
I've made it to 36 weeks!! YEAH! Doctor says we're the Poster Child & Mommy for the P17 Injection! I've already made it 4 weeks farther than I did in my 1st pregnancy and the water hasn't broken!! I'm dialated to a 3 & 50% efaced (sorry I have no idea how to spell those ones). But all is well. He's a mad kicker - but he's dropped so I'm able to breath again!! NICE! C-Section has been scheduled for Sept 16th. The 3 week countdown has begun!! I'll check back once our lil' boy is here! Best wishes to all the other Prego's!! This shot is a bit annoying - but so worth it! Our babies deserve that chance to get a bit extra baking in our lil' ovens!! TAKE CARE & I'll check back in mid-Sept! ↑
I am 27 weeks 4 days pregnant with my first baby...a little boy. My sister has incompetent cervix so I asked my doctor about it being a problem for me. They did an ultrasound at 25 weeks and saw that my cervix had shortened to 2.5 cmand 50% effaced. The next week it had shortened again to 1.4 cm. My perinatologist started me on progesterone shots on Monday, I will get them weekly. They also told me that they hope I make it to 30 weeks. I'm hoping the progesterone will prevent him from coming TOO early. ↑
Hi, LovemyLogan! Welcome to our little thread. It's good to hear updates from all of the people making it farther with the progesterone. I'm sorry to hear of your situation, but I'll bet if you stay on bedrest and do your shots, you will make it to 30 weeks. I know it will be a long road in the NICU, but I'm positive your baby will be okay. STAY ON BEDREST......drink lots of water and take your shots! How come the didn't suggest a cerclage for you???? Did your sister have a preemie??? Or a loss? God be with you and keep your chin up!! :) Keep us posted!! Ladysvr, did you have your baby yet??? Good luck! ↑
My sister had her baby at 27 weeks, no contractions or anything. By the time they checked her her bag was bulging and there was no stopping it. He is now a healthy 4 year old boy with no problems. As for a cerclage, they felt like there were too many risks at this point to do that. It has a high risk of infection and putting you in to labor this late in the pregnancy. At my last appt. my cervix hadn't shortened anymore and I got my 2nd shot yesterday. The baby is just down REALLY low! He's ready to come, but hopefully he can wait for a few more weeks! ↑
Hello Ladies! We made it to 38 weeks 6 days...Our lil' William arrived on Sunday September 14th - via C-Section! He couldn't wait the extra 2 days for the scheduled C-section! A healthy 6 lbs 12 oz & 20 inches long. We came home yesterday & we are doing great!! ↑
WOW! 38 weeks and 6 days!??? CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I hope I can make it that far next time! You're such an encouragement. Congrats on a beautiful baby boy! Are you going to have more kids later? ↑
I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and I took the progesterone shots. So far I'm full term just waiting to pop. I had my first born though at 28 weeks so that is why the doctor made me get them. I stopped taking them at 35 weeks. They started me on them after 12 weeks. Mine was once every week. If you have insurance it's not that expensive. It's more costly to have a premature baby, if you ask me. ↑
I am also glad I came across this. I am 16 wks into my second pregancy. I just started my prog. shots on thursday. I delivered my twin daughters and 30 wks 6days. They think it was because of the early stages of an infection in the placenta. The goal this time is to avoid the NICU. I am hoping this works. Congrats to all of the ladies who have had success thus far with these injections!! ↑
Just checkin' back in. The last 6 weeks have been CRAZY! I am so glad that I was able to go full term - which I believe was thanks to the shots!! William is doing GREAT! He is growing so fast!! I have post partum depression...if you get it remember you aren't alone & get help! My family, my CNM & Doctor have all come together to help me! And...I can still breastfeed!!! Our daughter (born at 34 wks/now 2 yrs old) never latched on...so it's a big deal that our son is breastfed...it's a whole new bonding experience for me! Well ladies...this one is my last but we get a suprise I would do the shots again...because it's totally worth it!! Best wishes to everyone...TAKE CARE!! ↑
Hi Livia, White, and LadySvr... It's so great to hear from all of you!! I am SO THANKFUL for all of your posts because it truly gets me excited and gives me hope to carry full term!!!! WOO HOO!!!! Lady, I'm SO glad you are able to breast feed!!! My little girl was born at 34 weeks as well and we did finally get her to breast feed well, but it too A LOT OF WORK! And a lot of time. :) When it works well, breastfeeding is fun and easy and you just feel good because you know your little one is getting good stuff! Thanks so much for checking in! PLease keep in touch, everyone!! We are going to TTC in February!!! I had a doctor's appointment a few weeks ago and he said he's planning on the progesterone for me from 16 weeks on until I deliver.... he's doing it in the form of suppositories though.....I asked him about the shots, but he said the suppositories work just as well.... Take care all! ↑
Hi, my first pregnancy was scary at 16 weeks I was found to have the plecenta previa it cleared up at my next ob apt. At 31 weeks my mucus plug came out although the doctor said it was still there, about a week later while sleeping my water breaks at 32 weeks. Went on bed rest at the hospital till week 34. Now I am prego again and I am scared to death...My doctor has put me on the progesterone shot and I am hoping it will keep this from happening again. Emotionally I just cannot get ready for good things. I keep having terrible dreams. Its very stressful to worry about something you cannot help or do anything about. ↑
