Red Raspberry Leaves in aiding the quicknes of childbirth?

Hi there,
I have a question regarding the use of red raspberry leaves during pregnancy...my husbands family swears by its effects in helping aid the delivery of your baby, and says that it helps make your delivery faster. I took the pills themselves for the first 8 months of my pregnancy and I still had a 22 1/2 hour labour in the end. My sister-in-law took it for both her babies- the whole duration- and they were both only like 1/2 hour deliveries each!...Now, does the pills only help in the pain of childbirth and strengthen the uterus in that way, or does it really speed up the process in the delivery room? My other sister-in-law is now pregnant and I don't want to set her up for a let down in thinking her delivery will be faster due to the pills as mine was not. just needing some advice on this matter, thanks.

I dont' think it's meant to help with the pain of childbirth but the idea behind why it is meant to speed labour up is because raspberry leaf causes extra contractions (braxton hicks) which tones up the uterus, which inturn helps your uterus work harder/better during labour. I used the raspberry leaf tabs during both my pregnancies but only in the last 2mths as it can cause preterm labour in some women. Some women will undoubtedly have very long or short labours no matter what they do to prepare for labour, and it is important to realise that EVERY woman and labour is different. My grandmother only had my mother as her birthing experience was quite horrendous, and my mum had to have 3 c-sections with us as we really didn't want to come out. My 2 labour experiences were quite different. With my 1st I was in labour 12.5hrs I used gas and pethidine, had my waters broken, and was stuck to a machine due to my dd's hb dropping. I had her vaginally but not without a bit of help. With my 2nd I was in labour 8hrs and had a completely natural, drug free water birth, with absolutely no interventions. I don't know if raspberry leaf will work for everyone, but as it heps tone up the uterus I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. ↑

I drank raspberry tea in the last few weeks and I was a week early, but still had a 46-hour labour. I'm 36 wks so I think I'll start again in the hope that it will bring it on early again, although I'm definitely not expecting labour to be quick--I'd be happy with 30 hrs this time! ↑
