Ladies okay I am in need of your opinions on a matter of television. Ok my dd is almost 3 months old and I dont keep the tv on during the day when we are home, mainly radio, but when dh comes home it is on for the rest of the night. Ok my thing is that dd will stare at it no matter where she is. If she is in her floor gym, on my lap or even in the jumparoo she is watching it. Is this a bad thing? She actually fusses if you take her away from it when she is "into" it. I dont want to raise her by television but dh is a big baby if he doesnt get to watch it. MEN.... Anyways, Thank you all for your responses and opinions ahead of time. I appreciate all the input and info I can get :-)

Hey red. Well, I do keep the tv on during the day for noise...I have always needed it for some reason. I just don't like silence. Not good, I know, but I just can't help it. I just do my best to keep Steven from watching. If the tv catches his eye, I'll just try and distract him and it usually works. If we need a little quiet time, we'll go in the nursery and play or read a book and listen to music. But honestly, of course it would be better if the tv was off at all times. That's just not going to work for me though.

Firm vote here in favor of NO TV. Is there a way for the TV to be moved to a place where DH can watch it but dd won't?

Ummm my tv is on all day. IF hes stares at hes more interesed in the colors and the mouths moving of the people or if i put kids shows on he looks at what they are doing. I dont use it as a "babysitter" but i dont see harm in him looking at it occasionally. We spend the majority of the day playing and doing stuff so its not gonna kill him. Just my thought on it.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate your input for sure! I too dont like silence that is why the radio is on and yes I am guilty too of having the tv on during the day. Usually music videos. I think it is just the colors and the movement that interests her. I dont want to abolish dh for watching the tv you know, he is part of the family, lol. I will start distracting her a little sooner. In no way is it used as a baby sitter and wont be. Thank you again.

Yes, i have that problem too. The thing is that my little one gets sooo bored. He is 9 months old and already a T.V> addict i think. Anyways i have gotten used to feed him when he eats in front of the T.V. Its the only time hell actually keep still. If i try otherwise, hell refuse to eat, ( the gerber food) i mean. When its bottle time i do take him to the bedroom where its quiet and feed him there. Hell actually stare at the T.V. for a while now. Its on as soon as he gets home from day care. Do you all think i am doing this all wrong? Should i just turn it off and not let him watch anything? I dont really know what to do. I am a first time mom and hubby ios gone for 3 months, job related, so i am all alone...Advice please..

Isn't the main concern with tv watching that it can make for lazy children because they watch too much and don't get enough physical exercise? If that is the case, then I wouldn't think that a baby watching tv is bad...if anything it stimulates senses and there are educational things on tv if you choose wisely. As a child gets older I'd think that they will choose whether they like tv or not regardless of whether they watched it as an... I'd just try to do outside time and exercise type play as much as possible in addition to television. I don't know, it's just my opinion, but I'm also one of those people that has to leave the tv on during the day for background noise :)

I don't think that there is anything wrong with a moderate schedule of watching TV. My dd watches educational programs but at her age there's no way she'll watch too much because she gets bored sitting there and would rather start crawling around or trying to pull herself up on things. I don't really see the harm in a little TV...are you honestly going to keep them from watching it their whole lives? If that's the case that it's that bad then I think that as adults you shouldn't be watching it either. Personally, I don't watch a lot of TV because I'm like my daughter and get bored too easily sitting there...I have a job where I sit all day and I'd rather be moving around and doing something in my free time. That's my two cents....but what the heck are two cents worth nowadays anyways? :-)
