Is an ultrasound 100% ACURATE WHEN DETERMINING THE SEX OF THE BABY AT 20 WEEKS

Name: J | Date: Feb 7th, 2005 10:03 AM
I had an ultra sound with my son at 20 weeks and it was 100% boy we say the penis and the testes. I would say if they saw 2 penis' and testes it would be 100%. My sister had identical twins and they told her both boys at the same time.

Let's say you don't remember your LMP, can an ultrasound tell you how far along you are w/ near 100% accuracy?

to alex....with the ultrasound they measure size of unborn baby...tells how far you are...so yes....

My ultrasound said I was 6 weeks and 2 days, but that's not possible I never had sex on that day. Why is my ultrasound saying I am 6 weeks and 2 days when I should have only been 4 weeks and 4 days

Rhonni, They go by your lmp.

The first day of you last period counts as day 1 of your pregnancy. For me my last period was january 15, I conceived on january 29 and today on june 6 I am 19 weeks 6 days prego with twins

My Sister inlaw was told 100% she was having a boy. Even up to the day she went into labor, the ultra sound that morning showed a boy.. But when the baby came out, the found that SHE had her cord wrapped around her leg and it made it look like a lil boy. It's funny.. same thing happened with my mom when it came to me. I believe in the heart rate fact. below 140 = boy.. above 140 = girl.. it's never failed any one in my family yet.

You can't go by your LMP if you dont have normal 28 day cycles. I have 40 day cycles and didn't ovulate until day 27 - a week later than I should have. Go by the ultrasound to measure exact age.

I don't know how accurate it is but I saw someone wrote in about the heart rate determining the sex. I have boy/girl twins at 25wks and his HR is around 144 and hers is 158. Anyone else have similiar instances??? When I ask the dr. they say that, that is not 100% reliable.

I googled this question and I found that they can tell you with 100% accuracy at 13 wks as long as they get a good look at the area. :) Most techs, however, will wait till 16-20wks before they will tell you. I think it depends on the skill level (how long they have been doing ultrasounds) of the tech.

I am carrying two boys and their heartrates range from the 130s to the 150s depending on their activity levels -- trust me, I know, I was just in the hospital for 5 days hooked up to constant monitors. I have asked the radiologists about sexing accuracy and they say most of the time when a boy is sexed -- it is definately a boy and not a girl....but that sometimes, what they thought was a girl can turn out to be a boy. It's just easier to identify sex with an unmistakeable penis showing on the screen I suppose.

My one friend had 6 ultrasounds and they swore up and down that it was a girl and she gave birth to a boy.

Name: hi | Date: Sep 28th, 2005 6:02 PM
i just went to the dr. they said it looks like a boy...but wasnt sure...first she showed me the umbulical cord and it looked the same..as the pic she sais was the peepee..then she really did'nt show me anymore..because she said i was in a wierd position...what do you think......

Name: Michelle | Date: Sep 28th, 2005 7:26 PM
Usually, when it is a boy it looks like a turtle with it's head poking out. The scrotum being the body. A pee-pee only shot could be the cord. With a girl it looks like three lines. I have seen many u/s and this seems to be they way they look when there is near certainty.

When i was pregnant with my daughter they miscalculated by 2 weeks, this was pretty bad considering she was 4 weeks early. they took her emergency c-section and didn't realize how early she was until they saw she was only 41/2 pounds. How could they miscalculate by so much?

I had an ultrasound at 28 weeks and was told I was having two boys. I had another scan at 32 weeks and was told that one baby was a girl.

I had my first ultrasound showing baby on the left side of the sac. As the tech moved the stick it seemed as if the baby was now on the right side. Was that another baby or the machine just 'flipping the image?'

i was told two girls at 20 wks and we couldn't tell at the others, we just accepted two girls. i had one girl and one boy. the only 100% is at birth.

Name: TripletMom | Date: Dec 15th, 2005 9:56 PM
never 100%.. if you have a really experienced U/S tech you could probably say 90% accurate, but even then things can be missed or mistaken.

i had sex with my ex-girlfriend on the 20th of febuary we then split up and she slept with someone else on the 5th of march, she has recently had a scan that indicates the date of conception was the 2nd of march, how accurate is the scan and could i be the farther?

The only way you are going to know it through a DNA test. Ultrasounds can be off quite a bit sometimes.
