I would like to know how many out there had vaginal delivery with their twins. I have heard pro's and cons and would like to do it if possible. I just want to hear about your experiences. Thanks

I have a friend that had twins vaginally. She already had a 2yr dd which she had vaginally also. She said that the labour was similar & the when the first twin came out it was just like having a sigleton & took about 15mins of pushing. When the second twin came out she said it was sooooo easy that he came out with 1 push, I guess cause she was already stretched. They were about 6lb each & she didn't have any tearing. It is totally possible to have a vaginal birth with twins, but with any pregnancy & birth it completely depends on your circumstances & risk factor at the time. Good luck & I hope you are able to have a vaginal birth.

I had my twins vaginally. Well, it could have been a lot smoother if I did not have to be air-vacced to another city. So they stopped my labor, then started it again but somehow the magnesium sulfate they used to stop it was so much stronger than the pitocin they used to start the labor again. So, it was hard to get things going again. I had a trial of labor so I delivered flat on an operating table and it was not very comfortable. The first twin was facing the wrong way (head down but facing up) and it took about 20 minutes of pushing before she came out. The second twin was born exactly 15 minutes later although I did not have to push with her. They were telling me to wait because the NICU staff was not ready and I couldn't help it she was on her way. As soon as they came in the door I pushed only once and twin B was out with no problems. B was facing the right way and she was a little bit smaller. I had an epidural but I still felt a lot. I had 2 1inch tears on the left and right sides of the vagina which did not hurt that bad. When they gave me the stitches it hurt really bad and they had to give me local anestesia before they could continue. The very worst part was after the delivery when the fused placentas were delivered. They push on your stomach so hard and it was really the worst part of the whole labor. My babies were only 4#4oz each so I imagine that it must have been easier than pushing out one larger baby. For the longest time we had planned a c-section because one twin was breech and one was transverse but a week or two before I went into labor they both switched to a vertex presentation. After the first is born, there is a nurse who comes over and applies pressure to each side of your abdomen so that twin B does not shift into another position. She held the baby in a vertex position until the head was crowning. I'm glad I was able to do it vaginally. Twins are at risk for prematurity (mine were 6 and a half weeks early) and csection babies are at a slightly higher chance of respitory problems because the fluid is not squeezed out of the lungs as it would in a vaginal birth. So, if you can, then you should. Healing time is faster with a vaginal birth also and I really felt that I was part of the process. Prepare yourself mentally for the 3 possible outcomes. 1) Both vaginal 2) Both C-Section 3) Vaginal followed by C-Section... GL

I have not....but my friend had hers vaginally and never thought that she wouldn't. She did a home birth...she had one there, and then had her other 6 hours later at the hospital. She also had a 3 year old prior to the twins vaginally. Don't most doctor's prefer vaginal births? Isn't it better for the moms?
