I conceived around May 10/11 this year. My pregnancy was confirmed May 26, but with low HCG levels. That week I started spotting, ultrasounds did not pick up on anything ( too early I assume), and my HCG levels dropped to 33. I was told I miscarried. A week later my levels had doubled. I was cramping a bit, fainted once so I got another ultrasound. This one showed "something" in my ovary and it looked like it was bleeding. I was rushed to the hospital with a suspected ectopic. Another ultrasound was done in the hospital and they could find nothing. I was told my pregnancy was abnormal because my levels didn't make it over 1000, but they could not tell me "where" the pregnancy was at the time. I was given a dose of methotrexate to abort the abnormal pregnancy. My levels are still rising today, but have never gone over 500. I received the methotrexate Wed June 11. My doctor has booked me for a surgery next week to remove the pregnancy because my levels are not dropping. I do not know how they are going to do this when I was told they "think" it is ectopic but don't really know where the baby is? Has anybody heard of this? Is it possible this pregnancy has implanted somewhere else? I am so frustrated. I went through the excitement of being pregnant, to the disappointment of a miscarriage, to being pregnant again, having an ectopic then to doctors not knowing what is going on????? ↓

I am so sorry you have to go through this. If they don't know where the pregnancy is located, then how will they know where to look to remove it? It just doesn't make sense. I can understand why you are so frustrated. Can you put a call in to your OB for some clarification? Once this is all over, I hope you and your hubby get pregnant again really soon and finally get the baby you deserve. ↑

Thank you very much for your response :) My husband and I are hoping the exact same thing!! The information I have received to the present is from both my doctor and specialist. They both say they have never seen this before. So you can imagine the frustration and fear. I hear it is common to get a second dose of methotrexate if the levels do not go down right away? I do not understand why they would do an invasive surgery if it was not necessary? I am only wishing for some straight answers, but if they have never seen it I don't expect that any time soon. Maybe they are confident in it being an ectopic, I am sure it will involve an HSG to rule out anything else...........either way, I am ready for this to be done. I just want to move on. ↑

It sounds as though you and your hubby aren't going to let this discourage you from trying again as soon as you can, that is great. It always helps to stay positive and look to the future. Again, I am sorry you are having this experience, and I am sure you will have your baby relatively soon. Good luck, and let me know how the surgery goes and what they find. ↑

Hi im so sorry you are going through this, I have gone through the same thing.
They confirmed my pregnancy then few days later they did a scan as was having some niggly pains and they told me its was suspected ectopic pregnacy, They told me I was to have to have methotrexate of which I refused at first as I didnt belive it was that cause no bleeding or anything. I suffer with pcos polycystic ovary syndrome and told then that this is what I think it was they told me no I had to have this injection of methotrextate or I was at risk. I asked for another scan to be sure before I had the injection and they refused, I therfore went ahead and had my injection and to find out my hcgs was still rising, but not quite doubling, they therefore did another scan 1 week later and found the baby in my uterus and discovered what they thought was the ectopic was actually ovarian cycts, By this time, it was too late the methetrexate had already started to kick in and aborted my pregnancy. We were devestated. Please be sure of your scan results before you go agreeing to any kind of treatment, ↑

Thank you all for your responses. I do know since all this started happening I felt like the only one and there was something wrong with me. Its good to hear others may have had simular experiences. My levels dropped by 60, then this morning I found out they are up again. It doesnt make sense to me why the levels are rising and falling but I guess I will have my answer next week. I am scheduled for the surgery next Tuesday. I will have one more HCG test before then and my hopes are HCG-0! I would love to avoid anything invasive. I am curious though why they are not considering a second dose of methotrexate? I hear this is common. Once again, thanks to you all, what a great support system you all have here. I will be sure to post next week. It will be interesting to find out what is going on....and hopefully if anybody else goes through this it will shed some light on the situation. ↑

rachel1 - OMG, I am so sorry! That must have been devastating. I do know I had bleeding, and three ultrasounds that have confirmed nothing in my uterus. But it is a scary thought that doctors can miss something like that! Because I did not know too much about methotrexate, I agreed quickly trusting my doc, but will definately be asking more questions in the future if any of this happens again! ↑

So all is well at the present. My levels have dropped to 16 and no laparoscopy was done because the levels dropped. They suspect a heterotopic because the HCG levels dropping when I bled for a week, then rising after and pain in the left side. But because heterotopics are not common and usually only occur when fertility measures are taken - it could have just been an ectopic that my doc/gyno have never seen before. But what a relief now, I have a new gyno and I'm booked for a HSG.....can't wait to try again and pray all goes well this time around. ↑
