I cant get my ds to sleep in his bed at night for nothing! He wants to sleep in his swing, During the day when he is asleep I can move him in to his crib while hes asleep and hell sleep in there for a couple of hours but at night that just dont seem to work. Im worried when he gets older he still wont sleep in it. Does any one have any suggestions? ↓
How old is he? I'd say if he's younger than 4 or 5 months, let him sleep wherever he wants. The important thing is that he's sleeping! It's great you can move him to his crib during the day. Keep doing that and sometimes trying it at night. Many times, as they get older, they're naturally more inclined to sleep in the crib. When they're little a cozy swing seat may feel more secure, but they'll want the space in the crib to stretch out as they get older. My ds would only nap in his car seat or on me at first. I let him do it but kept trying the crib at least once a day. Eventually, he started napping there. ↑
You can start by putting him in his crib whenever he is already asleep. If he wakes up at night feed him in bed with you then move him to his crib, stay consistent and just keep moving him into his crib whenever he is sleeping, especially at night. Eventually he will come to know his crib as a place to sleep and will start to sleep for longer and longer periods as he gets older. ↑
i know this raises a safety question but, does your crib have a bumper? As babies, both of my kids were great sleepers (still are, youngest one is 9 mos), but neither would sleep in the crib without a bumper. I think it was too open....perhaps gazing thru the bars was too dizzying? (i know they can't focus at that age). Many people don't use bumpers b/c of SIDs concern, which is not to be dismissed. But we put the bumper in, swaddled the baby tightly and the problem was solved. ↑
i'll also add that little babies do have strange opinions. A coworker passed along a bassinet. We didn't need it with the crib but kept it anyway. our newborn son HATED it, totally hated it. In fact, if we had to wake him to feed him, we'd put him in it...literally 2 minutes later he'd be crying. It was odd. Daughter had no problem....napped in it regularly. ↑
Oh yeah that is a good idea J.J! I don't have bumpers, but I put a blanket over the side of the crib facing out, because her crib is in my room and right beside my bed, so I don't want her to see me when she's in her crib sleeping at night because she might not settle herself down when she wakes up otherwise. Also, I like it for when hubby and I are having some alone time too. I think the closed in space is a little more comforting and cozy for them. ↑
Yeah we have a bumper in it, he always sleeps when the t.v is on and noise is around, so Im thinking that he wont sleep in his room because theres no noise, besides a fishtank but the filter broke so its really quite in there ↑
White noise really might help. We have a cd of ocean waves we play for our son to go to sleep. I got it at Babies R Us. I know you can get cds of sounds like hair dryers and vacuum cleaners, too. ↑
