Sorry ladies to make a seperate post. I will only do two, promise. Since the other one had concerns pertaining to my loss .. I just wanted to ask here if anyone can tell me (if u don't mind to share this experience) anything of D&C procedure. I have to get it next week (8 weeks preg fetus measured 6wks and now the fetus and yolk no longer in ges sack) and I am a little nervous. It is performed at the docs office and she said there will be some iv sedation. she said it is quick. i can't eat after 10am and it will be at approx. 4pm. I don't want to ques her integrity but I thought something like this is done at hospital? Can anyone share and address my concern and give me details. I am very scared but I think it is better to be cleaned out. Thank you ladies. ↓

Mine was done at the outpatient portion of the hospital, but my OB is located at the hospital so I don't know. The procedure only took 30 minutes or so. They make you pee before you can leave. You'll have some bleeding and cramping afterwards. (I kept feeling it come out and when I went to the restroom it came out lke water. Dont let that scare you. It started to slow down before I went home) It took me two weeks to completely recover, but I wasnt active at all the first week. GRADUALLY increase your activity level. If you push yourself too hard the cramping and bleeding get worse. Just give yourself permission to take it easy. And my period returned after about five weeks. It can take anywhere from 3 weeks to three months for your period to come back. God luck and I'm sorry you have to go through this. ↑

I had mine at the hospital and was under general anesthesia so I didn't feel a thing really. I had very slight cramping afterwards which motrin took care of. I barely bled....just some spotting for a few days and that was it. I was up and around the day of the procedure so it wasn't that bad. I think it can be done in an office, I just didn't have mine that way. ↑

My ob wasnt in a hospital but my d&c was. My miscarriage started at 10 at night and i spent the night and morning in thr hospital in severe pain with morphine shot after morphine shot. The last thing i remember after the anatheisa (mispelled) was seeing the big metal doors swing open to the operating room. In there they had me scoot off the hospital bed onto the operating table. I was so out of it they had to do it for me. I woke up in recovery after the 30 minute procedure. A nurse came and checked my bleeding every now and then. I had to stay in recovery for 5 hours. I had an irregular heartbeat after surgury so that may be why i stayed so long, but i dont know. I had to stay at the hospital til i went to the bathroom twice on my own. I was given a prescription to make my uterus contract for 3 days and pain reliever. I slept for 3 straight days when i got home. The bleeding continued pretty heavy for 2 weeks.I was 12 weeks but the fetus gestational age was only 6 weeks. ↑

I was put to sleep for mine at the hospital outpatient center. I know though that my cousin had hers down like how you are explaining and she said she was so out of it that she can't remember..In my experience ( i had 2 done in 2007) it sounds scarier than it actually is. You can move on alot quicker this way!!! you don't have to wait for your body to expel it( could take weeks) and you can make sure it is all out so no infection happens. I am glad that you are getting it cause for me it was better mentally and physically! ↑

hey thanks ladies. breezie- thanks i also answered in the other post in re to other concerns. as for the d&c.. newbaby, you sound like you went through a lot. sorry to hear that. the thing is, after wed there was no more fetal pole only sack visible so that and the lining i imagine, are what have to come out. right now i have some mild cramping and some twinges followed by some heavier brown spotting. it is as if i am about to get a heavy af. perhaps this is it? supposively the fetus has already left me. she does this procedure often in her office with general anesth. but now i am concerned if i should be in a hospital on a monitor. she told me some patients dont want anest and do it like that but in that case its painful. ↑

Sorry to hear of your loss. I've had two D&C's. They were both actually vacuum aspirations - one electric, one manual. I don't think they perform actual curettage any more. I elected to have an IV sedation for the first procedure, so it was performed at the hospital. The second procedure was performed at my doc's office. I took some valium an hour before the aspiration, and she injected a local anesthetic in my cervix. Both procedures only lasted 10-15 minutes and were fairly painless. The prep work and the IV was the worst part of the first procedure. The IV sedation did its job in that I don't recall much of that actual procedure. However, the office procedure was quicker and more relaxing, unlike the sterile operating room of the hospital. I only felt a little pressure during the second procedure. They warn you about cramping, but I didn't feel anything. However, I don't normally experience menstrual cramps so that might have had something to do with it. I want to say that they monitored my heart rate and oxygen levels during the first procedure which I believe is my hospital's standard protocol whenever IV sedation or general anesthesia is used. Sounds like your body could be expelling all the fetal matter naturally, so you might want to have an u/s before your scheduled D&C. Might find out that it isn't necessary afterall. Good luck with whatever you decide. ↑

Thank you for sharing. I have been expelling much naturally since last night. It is like a heavy period. In fact started off with brown getting more and darker and now since last night it is bright red. Even the sporadic cramps feel like af =/. I pushed it to Friday. The girl in the office said they prob will still do it to clean me out. I know its sedation via IV but I think thats it. My friend has ulcers and commonly has IV sedation that knocks her out in her docs office for a few min. until procedure is over. ↑

I had to have mine done at an abortion clinic because the hospital wouldn't help me because I wasn't in pain or bleeding. (12 weeks) no h/b).
It was fine. Great in fact. Lovely people. Lovely surroundings. I had what was called, twighlight. It's a general anisthetic but it's safer because it doesn't completely knock you out. you just go into a super heavy sleep. The whole thing, (besides filling in forms etc) took 6 minutes from laying on the bed, the iV in arm, drugs given, done, and I walked with the nurse to a lovely recliner chair where I had a cup of tea and a biscuit. After 1/2 an hour, my husband put walked me to my car and we drove home. Well, he drove to the shopping centre and went to my favourite take away shop, got me a Tom Yum soup and my perscriptions to stop infections then he took me home, sat me on the lounge and was at my beck and call until this day, 2 weeks later. I'm very lucky. It's nerve racking , the waiting etc but once it's over I was like, that wasn't so bad. The drugs were great! ↑
