any unusual bring on labour tips I've tryed a heap already
Name: angel
Question: I'm 40 weeks and I'm 1cm dialated the baby is well and truely locked in position and I have had contractions everyday for a week If I get induced will they need to use the gel if I'm already dialated or will they just break my waters. I've tryed raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, walking, sex, nipple stimulation, I've had the stripping of the membranes has anyone got any unusual suggestions on how to start labour. ?

Answer: I'll be 40 weeks tomorrow...I am 3cm dilated and 20% effaced...Sex actually brought on some serious contractions the other night! They were 7 minutes apart and lasted for 3 hours. I have another appointment on Monday...I believe that I am more effaced now...just judging by those contractions I had the other night...so the semen really does do something.. =

Name: sharon | Date: May 8, 2005, 22:58
Answer: some things that help labor progress or start. red raspberry leaf tea helps soften the cervix and helps for labor and recovery. black and blue cohosh (tinctures are best) they help start contractions. evening primrose oil helps ripen cervix. cumin tea, castor oil, nipple stimulation. those are just a few that i have heard to be most effective. none may work though if you just aren't ready. your body really has to be ready in order for anything to help. but if you are dilating or thinning they should help speed things up. =

Name: Tara | Date: May 9, 2005, 9:31
Answer: I was told that if you eat a pineapple then take a long walk it can help bring on labour. A friend of mine tried it and 20 minutes later her waters broke and she was in labour. I've hit my due date now and i am gonna try it, worth a try. =

Answer: 2 claire-i heard from a registerd nurse that his bum crushing your ribs you can get into the doggy style position and keep your but in the air but lay your face on the ground.its called a pelvic tilt.like the way sometime little kids sleep??lol!but thats only advice for you if you havent already had the baby yet. THIS IS TO ANYONE WHO SAYS CASTROL OIL CAN KILL YOUR BABY...TRACES OF FOOD PARTICLES ARE NEVER FOUND IN THE UMBILICAL CORD!!!THE ONLY THING YOU PASS TO YOUR CHILD IS NUTRIENTS THUS THE BABY DOSENT CRAP BECAUSE OF THE CASTROL OIL BUT BECAUSE OF TOO MANY CONTRACTIONS AT ONE TIME CAUSING FETAL DISTRESS AND MAKING HIM POOP.but i would ask your doctor if you are thinking of using it...unless someone has some kind of medical certificate(i.e., RN,LVN,MD,OBGYN)i would not listen too much too them.  =

Answer: hehe - who cares about spelling - you lot are funny! Im 38 weeks preggie and desperatly trying to bring on labour. I have gestational diabetes which causes big babies and a condition where i am carrying too much water so my belly is huge!! Im being induced at 39 weeks 'cos of the diabetes but would appreciate any tips not previously mentioned as being induced is nasty! was induced with my first sprog and went into labour on my own with 2nd. Anyone got any tips, tried the tea, sex, curry, laughing, dancing, bouncing on a ball, masturbation etc etc - although not tried the blowing balloons up thing yet! umm perhpas that will work - off to blow up balloons!!! :-)  =

Answer: Like you I'm also awaiting a late baby, I have tried all sorts of stuff to no avail, have decided to stop worrying and allow my body to relax. I have started visualisation and talking to the baby and have started to get slight contractions (deep period pains), letting the baby know that it will be pulled and poked about by the NHS seems to be doing the trick! Good luck and I hope you can naturally start labour - remember the baby will come when its good and ready x =

Name: linz | Date: July 6, 2005, 4:55
Answer: Clary sage oil supposed to work.. mix a few drops with almond oil and masage into your tummy, this should bring on your contractions. Good luck xxx =

Name: Amie | Date: July 6, 2005, 15:54
Answer: This is so silly, spelling comments? Come on now! lol! Anyways, the girl asked about labour, not schooling. So heres my suggestions. I am 40 weeks today, and I am sooo tired of people telling me 'he'll come when he comes'...thats all fine and good, but I want him out now! 40 weeks is long enough! Why else would doc strip the membrane three weeks in a row, which, by the way, did NOTHING for me, maybe my obgyn doesn't do it right or something! I've heard a bumpy road, and rasp tea, and long walks, all that good stuff, hot baths....so far nothing works. Sex? Yeah, tried that. So, tonight here's my agenda. I'm going to have a few mouthfulls of my husbends beer with supper (thats a new one I heard today, and besides, whats a few mouthfulls?) then, a long drive, a long walk, a cup of rasp leaf tea, then home to a hot bath, and sex. But, I'm going to try a new tip I heard about the sex thing too, they say to tilt your bum upwards after sex, on some pillows or something. The semen is the key, and the longer it sits in there, the more effective. Aw well, if nothing else, it would be a fun relaxing night!! Good luck all! I know I'll be needing it! =

Answer: A book I have says that nipple stimulation can trigger strong contractions, it also says not to try this without your Dr's. advice because it can cause very strong contractions. =

Name: Meagan:) | Date: July 7, 2005, 14:48
Answer: Well im 41 weeks and on monday will be 42 planning on being induced if he doesn't come by thursday!!!! Ive tried everything EXCEPT castor oil, i really don't feel like crapping my face off for 2 days hehehe... Suposidly contractions are way stronger when you take that stuff. I ate a pineapple yesturday and went for a walk (nothing) sex(nothing) lot's of water(nothing) walking (nothing).. he's just gonna come when he's ready , no use in forcing him unless things go to next week .. My advice just be patient, try to do something different everyday, get out of the house for a little bit to take your mind off of things ...Remember not much longer to go he's gonna come out sooner or later right!! GOOD LUCK :) =

Answer: Crystal: I am 39 weeks pregnant. My doctor told me to go home and drink a glass or 2 of wine. It will not hurt you. He said it's actually good for you n small amounts. Just Don't drink the whole bottle :)  =

Name: Amie | Date: July 11, 2005, 10:11
Answer: Courtney: Your doc actually told you that? I've heard about it before, and people have told me it's actually good in small amounts, like half a glass every two weeks. I've been so tempted to try it, but I feel guilty every time I go to open a bottle. Let me know if it works, I'm now 5 days overdue. If it works, if you get anything at all, let me know what kind of wine too, anything thats red? Or does it have to be merlot? I'm not crazy on merlot, I wonder if a red fruit wine would work? I've have crampy pains for three days now, and nothing nothing nothing. I;m going crazy!! =

Name: MnTiff | Date: July 11, 2005, 13:40
Answer: I'm due tomorrow with no signs of the baby coming. My first child was the same way and I had to be induced when I was a week overdue. I even went out and rode an elephant on my due date with no luck at getting that kid out. (I told them I would find a circus but no one believed me) Spicey foods do not work on me. Neither did wine(according to my OBG a glass every other day of red in the third trimester is not going to harm the baby and will help your own mood along significantly) or bowling three-four games a night three nights a week. I also tried overworking(60 hours a week) along with long walks. To each their own on getting the kids out. If mine isn't here in the next day or two my doc is scheduling me to be induced. My mother had the same problem delivering me so ask your moms how much trouble you were for them. They might have some ideas. My moms vote is for them to schedule me for a c-section. Thats what they did with her.  =

Name: Grandma | Date: July 11, 2005, 15:45
Answer: After reading all of these postings...I want to add my 2 cents... When I was young, our family invited unwed mothers (a very old-fashioned term now!) to live with us. Over many years, I probably saw 15 or more pregnant ladies be given the "magic potion" by my mother on their due date and ALL - I repeat ALL of them went into labor the same night. The potion? 2 tsps. Castor oil, OJ and baking soda so it'll fiz and make it easier to get down. When I was in labor many years ago, I tried it and....................... yep, it worked like a charm.  =

Answer: I heard caster oil was bad though... my mom told me neeeeeeeever to take it... =

Name: aussiegirl | Date: July 12, 2005, 6:06
Answer: This has been fun to read! I am currently 5 days late, which is not considered 'overdue' til after 42 weeks. I have had everything tossed at me with this pregnancy and am really ready for her. However, the comfort and safety of the baby (and mum of course) should be top priority should it not? Babies come when they are ready and if you are a healthy person, there should be NO breakdown of the placenta or cord etc., and the odd glass of wine or beer (Guiness was recommended to me for all 3 pregnancies!! - high in iron, helps milk production to name a few benefits) will NOT harm you or the baby. It is mainly in the first and perhaps second trimester to avoid, because your baby is still DEVELOPING. Once bub is fully developed and merely growing, it won't harm him/her. My advice would be: do whatever YOU are comfortable doing and do LOTS of whatever takes your mind off bub being late. p.s. To Alma..I don't think you're being selfish as such, but at least let bub do his/her 40 weeks....we all knew that was the deal when we fell pregnant, no? Relax and visualise a healthy baby above EVERYTHING else. =

Name: Alexis | Date: July 12, 2005, 10:17
Answer: my obgyn told me that they won't let me go any more than 10 days past 40 weeks because it increases the risk of still born babies. He said I defeinetly won't let me go to 2 weeks overdue, and they are inducing me on Friday. =

Name: Lisa | Date: July 15, 2005, 19:58
Answer: hi girls, first can I say there are a few of you that seem to be talking about taking CASTROL OIL as apposed to taking CASTOR OIL!! HUGE DIFFERENCE, THE FIRST ONE IS WHAT YOU PUT INTO YOUR CARS ENGINE, THE LATTER BEING THE OIL EVERYONE ELSE IS TALKING ABOUT!! Castor oil will move everyting out from inside including emptying your bowels, bladder and stomachs! Be prepared to feel very ill afterwards!! Now,im 2 days over today, trying to avoid being induced in 10 days..... have done raspberry tea, curry, sex, walks, pineapple, etc... anyone else any decent tips?? =

Name: Dawn | Date: July 20, 2005, 23:21
Answer: boil kettle, leave till warm then mix half a cup of that water with 4 heaped tablespoons of BROWN sugar... gulp it down. I was stupid enough to try this at 36 1/2 weeks and had my baby early.  =

Name: Maria | Date: July 30, 2005, 11:48
Answer: I'm only 37 weeks pregnant so I normal wouldnt be in a rush expecially since it's my first child however my husband is in the military and is leaving in 10 days for 7 months and I just really wanted to have the baby before he leaves so he can meet our little bundle of joy. I live in a small town and checked everywhere for raspberry tea leaves and the closes I could get to it was packaged herbal tea with it as it's 6th ingredient! I'm really unwilling to try castor oil mainly because it's been weeks since I've had a bowel movement that even remotley could be considered "solid" waste that I cant see me dealing with the effects. Sex is out of the question cause I'm so swollen down there I cant get nothing in so I'm not even sure how somthing is supposed to come out! Hot baths I love so I will try that and walking I'll try but I was wondering if any of you had any more information on the wine idea. Beer is not a good option either cause the smell/taste of it makes me sick (even before pregnancy) so for now I'll keep drinking my packaged tea and I'll try the brown sugar thing. Let me know if you can think of anything else.. =

Name: jen | Date: July 31, 2005, 9:33
Answer: had never heard of the brown sugar thing. am going to try it as soon as i have written this, baby is due day after tomorrow. i know with my first baby 8 years ago that a little brown sugar in water can help ease constipation for them. guess it must work in the same sort of way. walked for 2 hours last night and have nothing but slightly sore feet! =

Answer: You haven't had your baby yet because it isn't time. A due date is approximate, not exact. Unless you go --over--42 weeks your fine. Nobody is pregnant forever.  =

Answer: For an update... yesterday I had about 3 glasses of my packaged raspberry tea, the brown sugar idea, a hot bath, went for a walk and had 1 cup of red wine which was a struggle since I really dislike wine, last night I started having contractions they were 4 minutes apart and very very strong they lasted for about 3 hours and then they were gone! I'm not sure if that was just regular braxton hicks or if somthing jump started it and then died off so I'm trying again today so far 3 glasses of tea, the brown sugar, and the hot bath I'm about to finish another cup of tea then go for a walk and try another glass of wine (ICK).... lets see if anything will go better tonight =

Name: dianne | Date: July 31, 2005, 16:55

Answer: Well, I finally had my babe, after being 9 days late. I had tried everything in the forum pretty much! But that day I had a ultrasound to be put on the induction list, then I ate McDonalds for lunch, and went home and repacked my diaper bag and my suitcase. My water broke in the process. I was very relaxed and very ready, so maybe that helped. Go in your nursery and organize the babes clothes again or something...who knows...it worked for me! lol...then again, I was 9 days late, that may have been a contributing factor! lol Good luck! =

Now running the risk of sounding like a complete idiot could someone please tell me what cohosh is (again I'm from a small town) but I have never heard of this, what is it and where do you get it....? =

Name: jen | Date: August 1, 2005, 13:32
Answer: hi ladies, did the brown sugar thing yesterday. waters broke at 5.45 this morning, went to hospital at 10, contractions started when they put me on the monitor and stopped as soon as they unplugged it, currently sat at home at 6.30 pm having very small contractions but not enough to get things really going. due tomorrow so think it may well come then. fingers crossed!! not sure if it was just time or if it was the brown sugar drink, my hubby reckons its no different to eating a mars bar, think he may be right, only mars bars taste nicer!! good luck ladies x =

Answer: They have not proven how much alcohol is safe for the baby yet.My doctor told me if i want to relax to drink 1 beer or wine cooler. Ive had 2 beers through my pregnancy and the baby is fine. Its only a problem if you drink one everyday. So dont feel guilty about drinking 1 beer or a glass of wine it won't hurt the baby. =

Answer: My baby is due in 2 days and I have tried everything. Nothing has worked. This is my 3rd and have never had a overdue baby so this is really killing me. I have tried it all from pinapple to castor oil (YUK!!). I have even tried one of those back massage things to vibrate her out and all she did was fall asleep. So I know how you feel. i have been trying it all.  =

Answer: I am actually nervous because my mother was over two weeks overdue with all three of us and they finally had to induce her - she just could never maintain labor on her own. I guess none of us wanted to come out! My older sister was the same way with hers - two weeks overdue and they induced. I am 36 weeks and am just ready to carry to 42 weeks. Sometimes I guess the baby just wants to stay in! My mom jokes that we would probably all still be in there if they hadn't forced us out! LOL! =

Answer: I have tried everything I could get my hands on: Pineapple, Evenning Primrose Oil...took a whole bottle over the course of three weeks, Black cohosh, sex, three doses of Castor oil, walking, wine, hot bath, the list goes on and on. The only thing I will not try is Blue cohosh, as it HAS been linked to fetal distress and abnormalities. Haven't EVER heard of the brown sugar thing...am going to go heat up the kettle and give it a go....Good luck to all! =

Answer: I want to try the brown sugar thing but I am scared that would be too much sugar for the baby. Let me know please. Altaynia@yahoo.com =

Answer: Tried the brown sugar thing. It really didn't taste too bad! So, drank it around 6:30pm and it's noe midnight with no change. I didn't really notice any change in fetal movement. I figure that much sugar can't be any worse the the Large Blizzard I had at Dairy Queen last week! I'll update if it works =

Answer: Hi again everyone, glad to see the brown sugar is working for some but i forgot to mention that it can take up to 48 hours to work... sorry. anyway, it worked for my last baby so i tried it again with this pregnancy but wretched and only managed 3 sips of it ........ same night i found a cleart mucus and 2 days later my waters started leaking..... im still leaking and having really mild contractions. im 37 weeks pregnant so maybe it works better for those that are closer to their due date. The tip was given to me by a neighbour who is a midwife by the way so i know its safe .. good luck to you all and congratulations to those who have had their babies already.. lucky lot!! lol  =

Answer: Brown sugar and water? Worth a try before indulging in Castor Oil, I guess. Funny, I have never ever heard of it before. Just wondering if this idea is from another country? Where did it come from - very curious since I have never heard of it before. I can hardly believe the results that you lucky gals have been getting from it. Does anyone know how it actually works?? =

Answer: I'm from UK.. I've given this tip to alot of friends over here and its worked for all of them who were over 38 weeks pregnant, some have had their babies before that stage. I'm not sure how it works though. I only wish I could manage to drink it again with this pregnancy though. My waters stopped leaking and the contractions stopped :o( does anyone know if light and brown sugar taste the same? I dont know if I bought the same sugar this time as I didnt have a problem drinking this stuff 15 years ago.  =

Answer: My mom washed walls with my brother, and went into labour that night. My sister drank a glass of prune juice in the am, and had a baby boy the next day. Both of them think that's what did it. I've also heard spicy food, driving on a bumpy road and lots of walking (especailly stairs) works too. Good luck!! =
