Ok, i am 35 wks today and yesterday i almost passed out at my docs office. for the last few days, i've had headaches, swollen feet and hands and a little in the face, and felt queezy, been short of breath. so she made me go to the hospital, and my bloodwork was ok, but she is making me do a 24 hour urine test to check for protein and creatines. has anyone had this and it not be caught in the bloodwork? or maybe its just starting and they can't catch it yet? or will a urine test be more accurate? ive had 2 kids but never had this before.

Hi cnasmom, I had preeclampsia with my 1st child. They found protein in my urine. My hands, feet and face were all swollen. I was two weeks away from my due date and they put me in the hospital and induced labor right then, they said it was to dangerous to wait till due date.

I developed pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks and induced at 37. For me I had swollen everything and protein in my urine. The swelling was so bad the excess water was very noticeably reflected on the scales even after a week on bland but healthy hospital food. If your kidneys are just starting to slow down (which is what causes the swelling and protein), they may be working irregularly -- if they were ok at the time of your test, but have periods of sluggishness throughout the day. Collecting 24 h of urine will give a more accurate result of the total amount of strain your body is under over the course of a full day. I am just speculating, but that was just about the same reason I got for having to do the 24 h urine collection instead of just a single sample test.
