conception after c-section
Name: cshaylee
Question: Hi, I just had my son in January (he's about 14 weeks) and love him so much that I REALLY want to start planning for my next one. To be honest, I'm a little surprised by how ready I am to conceive again, but it took me about five years to have him and now that I know I can have children, I want them pretty close together. My midwife reccommened that I wait 18 months before even thinking of conceiving again and I'm not exactly sure why. I did end up having a c-section (though I was extremely against it from the start!) and have recovered very well! I have no pain and am pleased with the healing. However, I am nervous about the safety behind this decision. Does anyone out there have any advice for me? What's the quickest I can conceive safely? What about the scarring? Not to be vain, but I worry about looking like I've been butchered down there! (my current scar is the bikini cut kind). I also am pretty sure that I'm not going to attempt a V-BAC and would like information from people who've had multiple c-sections about what their scarring was like? Is it substantially worse from birth to birth? Any and all information would be helpful and appreciated? ?

Answer: I've had 4 csections - Aug 1998, may 2000, feb 2007, and may 2008. I have had no unusual problems, and it only took me about a week to bounce back after this most recent csection. I am already picking up my one year old, doing laundry, etc, and my son is only 2 1/2 weeks old. With my dr, he cut me open in the same spot, and my scarring is minimal, he was awesome. I did have some keloids, which is the upraised scarring, but my doctor fixed that this last birth. Hope that helps - you can't see my scar at all if I have on a bikini or undies. =

Answer: I was ready to conceive early after my first son, c-section delivery, but we ended up waiting until he was 6 months, not too bad! My son just turned a year in June and my second son is due in September. They will be 15 months apart and I have had no complications due to the c-section, and I am planning for another c-section then as well. =
