My son was breastfed till he was 8months old,he didnt take a bottle till he was 7 months old,he started rice cereal at 4 months from a spoon, they dont have to take it from a bottle, just make it really runny and spoon feed it,goodluck.

I don't see why your daughter needs to take a bottle before starting solids. My son just turned one this week, and has never taken a bottle. I went through the same struggles as you, and finally accepted that he is just a boob man! Around 10 months he started using a juice box (breastfed babies are usually good with straws), and I have since been able to give him juice or milk through a sippy cup with a straw. What a great day that was for me! Anyway, I never thought I'd be on the other side of this conversation, but keep trying different cups and bottles. If you could see the assortment we have in our pantry, we tried it all!! And the way I got him to take the juice box is I put the straw to his mouth, and squeezed some juice in. It didn't take long before he got the hang of it. Good luck. And like jeni said, just water it down, and she should be fine taking solids.

They (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommend starting rice cereal by SPOON at 4 months and baby food at 6 months. They also NEVER say to ever put it in a bottle b/c it is a choking hazard. I'm not sure where your doctor is getting this from.

Yea your not suppose to put it in a bottle of course unless its doc recommended for things like reflux as its considered a choking hazard. My dd, now 13 months, rarely took a bottle and outright refused at 7 months. I started rice cereal at 4 months as she wasn't gaining weight and I wanted to add a few extra calories after eventually switching to fattier foods, instead of formula. You don't even have to start with rice cereal, the cereal don't have much nutrients in them they're just low allergy-scale. Maybe try bananas or something else with low allergys. Since shes breastfed shes probably just used to the sweeter taste and bananas and apples would probably good, even if you wanted to mix them with cereal. I would definately only use a spoon and just keep working with her on it. I started offering my dd a sippy at 4 months with water or diluted juice she took it right away and after refusing bottles I was lucky enough she took the sippy. Hmm, just an idea. Good luck!

My daughter never took rice from a bottle or a cup. I started feeding her with a spoon at 3 months. Her pediatrician never said anything to me about not using a spoon. If your daughter has control of her head I'd put her in a bouncy seat and start giving her the rice cereal with a spoon. You do need to start with the rice and not try anything new for 4-5 days. You should do this every time you start something new as it helps you know if there is an allergy what it is.
