dd's birthday is only a few weeks before christmas (december 1)! i was wondering what everyones plans are to get their l.o's. she will be one year old by then, i have read that 1 year olds like drawing pictures, walkers, putting and taking things out of stuff, bath tub toys. Also are you getting your l.o's big things? i am shopping early because i know i'll end up spending a fortune on all the toys for her alone !! Also any suggestions on money saving?? so far i have gotten her a winter snowsuit,a little riding toy,a baby einstein plate bowl n spoon set (it was such a good price i had to!) and some smaller dollar store things.

Jenna - Our LO turned 1 a week ago. We took her to American Girl Cafe in Chicago for tea and a party. Her grandma and Aunt went nuts and bought her the American Girl baby doll, stroller, clothes, etc. I bought her a winter wardrobe and my dad bought her a red Flyer car. I guess we went overboard, but her great grandama died 2 days before her birthday so the birthday was spent at her wake (96 years old so not unexpected). I think we all felt bad so went over the top on Sunday. I have to say it was fun though and certainly rounds out her one year book!

aww,i'm sorry that's so sad! it always happens around a birthday. i think maybe i will stick to things she needs (itleast for her birthday) and leave it up to grandparents etc. to get the fun toys and things. for christmas well we'll see how many toys she gets for her bday first!

I know budgets being tight and all but I would rather spend the same money on fewer items than getting a bunch of junk at the dollar store. The dollar store is fine for adult things but with all the recalls they always have posted and most all of their stuff coming from China, I would think twice before buying baby anything. How bout a nice lead coated teether?

oh yeah, that's true to. but my baby will be one year old by then... so i'm not buying teethers etc.i was thinking more like for stocking stuffers. she has enough of that other stuff! i got crayons, stickers,a little hand puppet, a book, colouring book and ic an't think what else now....maybe i am thinking too far ahead of myself here, maybe some of this stuff is more for 2-3 year olds., but i did read one year olds like to scribble with crayons. I live in a smaller area, usually everything is sold out around xmas i find and there is nothing good so that's another good reason to go early!

my dd bday is dec 18th so we are doing shopping for bday one and for christmas... we got her a 3tent/3tunnel set that connects together for her to crawl through and climb over, we are getting her a ball pit and extra balls, and an indoor gym with a slide... then some smaller toys like a piano toy, and the vtech toys for her age group that light up and make noise..i have been planning for her bday and christmas since she was 2 months old, so i have had plenty of time to research toys and prices and what is appropriate for her age...and also watching what she enjoys doing helps...she loves to climb and hide in her toy box.. she loves the toys she has that make sound and light up so more of the same, and things she can use in the house to climb on and play in.... i also got her some small stuffed animals...she has some that she takes everywhere with her and she loves to play with them in the car, she chews on them and talks to them so we got her some new ones to add to her collection... i am also getting her things for her room, a table and chairs set, and then chair pads (her room is themed frog prince with pink flowers and a blue sky with yellow stars) so the chair pads and frog prince and a lamp that is a star, and we are buying her a nice piece of jewelry every bday so that when she is old enough to wear them and take care of them she will have plenty... this year is going to be either a necklace or earrings of her birthstone... (if you need to know what toys are appropriate for your childs age range go to toysrus dot com and search the 12-24 month toys)... that is where i got my ideas from... good luck.... (also to save money all summer clothes are going on clearance now...so we bought her wardrobe for next summer now, in size 2t and 3t) we spent $100 on maybe $450-$500 worth of clothes and now we know we are ready for next year (we did the same thing when she was born, once the winter stuff went on clearance we bought up coats and hoodies and snow suits in 12-18month sizes for this year) it will get harder to do when she gets older and goes through growth spurts but for now it really helps out... we also got her bath toys... some she plays with now and some we will give to her for christmas. Also have you started planning the bday party? our idea is to invite family and friends of ours that love playing with her, (since she loves to be center of attention) and having them all over for an afternoon with food and such (they dont have to bring gifts i am more interested in her getting TONS of attention from everyone wanting to play with her) and we are getting a small cake made for her a little bigger than a cupcake... that she can eat and play with... and then a larger cake for the adults... next years party is going to be the one that is more of a childs party but this year it seems simple to please her... sorry i rambled on... its just nice to see someone else in the same boat i am buying bday and christmas stuff all at once...

ahh help! dd is kind of starting to walk. i bought one walker toy that converts into a rideon. but earlier i bought just a ride on one. Maybe i'll give the ride on one for her birthday and the walker for now? i don't know. I just feel pressured to spoil her for her birthday, lol. Do you think at this age they remember that you bought it in front of them? it's hard to get a sitter.

i buy all of dd toys while she is with me...and though i tried to hold off on some of them for christmas and her bday i just couldn't wait to see her play with some of them...so i gave her some... lol. i bought her a ride on that she has now...but now my issue is that i would like to get a walker- that converts to a ride on but once i got her a ride on dh got her one too nd then we bought another one so now she has 3 ride ones in the living room, and it seems useless for us to buy another!! uggg. I dont think at this age the really "remember" when they get the present which is why i gave her some christmas/bday stuff early... i just want her to enjoy them and play with them so i figured why not give them to her now. Also for the piano toy- it is hard to find one that i like...i would like it to have keys like what a piano actually has... not colored big buttons... so i am on a mission to find one like that... sorry i rambled on, i always do that...

i got th eplayskool one that converts walker to ride on. i figure she won't get much use out of it later if she masters walking by then. playskool actually just got a commercial for it i just seen to.
