Spears’ Tripping Violation
Being a mother is pretty difficult, but being a mother in the glare of the public eye seems to be next to impossible, particularly if you are Britney Spears. Her latest mothering “faux-pas”: tripping and almost dropping her son while leaving a hotel in New York City. So just what happened? Well, seems Spears was leaving the Ritz Carlton with Sean Preston in one hand and a drink (of water) in the other. As she tried to make her way through the crowd of people gawking and snapping pictures of her, she momentarily lost her footing and tripped, almost losing hold of Sean Preston. Although his head did go back, causing his cap to fall off, Spears’ bodyguards sprung into action and helped make sure the little one wasn’t harmed. While the media is quickly making a bigger deal out of the incident than is necessary, what is a bit more disconcerting is Spears’ comment after the near slip. According to TMZ.com, Spears was heard saying: “This is why I need a gun.” Somehow it seems unlikely that brandishing a gun and shooting down the people in your way will help people think you’re a good mother, Britney.

Brangelina Baby Pic Deal
Their baby may not be born yet, but already the spawn of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is worth millions. $2.6 million to be exact. This according to Britain’s Daily Mirror, who say the beautiful couple have struck a deal with a US magazine, promising them the first photos of their baby. However, before you start thinking “Do they really need that money?” the cash won’t be going into Pitt or Jolie’s bank account. Instead, the money will be donated to children’s charity UNICEF. “Angelina’s very private,” revealed a source to the Daily Mirror. “But they figured they might as well use the opportunity of one child being born to help a lot of others.” Couldn’t agree with that thinking more.

Spears Innocent of Any Car Seat Violations
In retaliation for the bad press Britney Spears is getting over photos showing her driving with her son slumped over in a forward-facing car seat, Spears (through her record company) has hit back. After being brandied an irresponsible mother once again, Sony BMG said that Spears was in “total compliance” with the law, going on to explain that the law says “all children under the age of six or weighing less than 60lbs be in safety seats in the back seat of the car” while rear-facing car seats were not compulsory in California or most other states. “In fact, there are only 10 [states] that require a child to be in a rear-facing car seat, and in two of those states it is not required if the infant is more than 20lbs,” the statement continued. “Britney’s son Sean weighs over 20lbs,” However, the California Highway Patrol aren’t as sure of her innocence. According to one of their spokespeople, federal law states that children under a year old should be seated in rear-facing car seats. Unfortunately, the California state code does not make this stipulation, therefore it is unlikely that Spears will see any charges or citations coming her way. Just bad press yet again.

Coldplay Childcare?
Seems like the days of wild partying and hard living that was once associated with being in a rock band are quickly disappearing. British rockers Coldplay are having a mini nursery put into their tour bus to help accommodate their children. In an effort to keep their families close as they tour for their latest album, the group decided on the tour bus renovations so that their children would have their own space. Says a spokesperson for the band: “The guys are over the moon with all the baby stuff.” Which is a good thing, seeing as how lead singer Chris Martin just became a dad for the second time a few weeks ago while Will Champion, drummer for the group, became the proud father of a little girl two weeks ago. Another Coldplay baby will be joining everyone in the fall when bassist Guy Berryman and his wife Jo will welcome their first child.

Katie Holmes Gets Baby Blues?
Britain’s The Sun newspaper is reporting that Katie Holmes seems to be rather emotional these days since giving birth to Suri a month ago, causing some to speculate that maybe she has a touch of the baby blues. The newspaper reports that friends of the actress say she is “emotional and very tired” these days, even breaking down and crying from time to time. Others have seen the actress looking “red-eyed” around her home. A friend of the actress told The Sun: “Katie told pals it’s natural for new mums to experience strong emotions.” Let’s just hope that these are just the baby blues and nothing more serious.

Spears in New Baby Vehicle Scare
It seems as though Britney Spears just can’t do anything right these days, particularly when it comes to driving with her eight-month-old son, Sean Preston, in her car. Back in February, Spears was visited by the Department of Children and Family Services after being photographed driving with Sean Preston sitting on her lap. Now another photo of Spears recently driving her convertible Mini-Cooper has caused child safety groups to start lashing out at the singer publicly. In the photo, it is quite clear that Sean Preston is sitting, or rather slumped over, in a front-facing child seat. Some have pointed out that, for a child that young, he should really be seated in a rear-facing car seat, while Pat Bentley of Roadpeace, a British charity, had this to say: “There should be straps across the shoulders – but the way his shoulder is slumped forward, it appears there are no such straps. If that is correct, then she is not caring for her child in the proper manner while he was in the vehicle.” Lets hope that Spears gets things right with baby number two, who is reportedly due in October.

Junior Spice for Geri
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has welcomed her first child a month early this weekend. Although it had been previously reported the Halliwell was expecting a boy, she in fact delivered a girl via c-section. The birth took place at 9pm at London’s Portland Hospital. Halliwell’s mother was said to be by her side for the entire birth while the presumed father of the child, Sacha Gervaise, was not (Halliwell has never publicly revealed who the father is). It is thought that Halliwell refused to let Gervaise attend the birth, as well as be involved with the child, because of his alcohol and drug addictions. No official statement has been released about the birth but a source for the hospital said: “The birth went well. Mother and daughter are doing fine.” Halliwell has previously said that she liked the name Stella for a girl; time will tell if she liked it enough to name her daughter Stella.
