Kerri Russell Signs Up for Silence the Sounds of Pertussis
Kerri Russell has signed up to be a spokesperson for the campaign Silence the Sounds of Pertussis, which was founded to raise awareness of Pertussis, otherwise known as whooping cough. This disease is deadly in infants yet it is preventable if their exposure to the virus is minimized until they can be fully immunized, around 18 months. Until then, parents are advised to get the Tdap booster (for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis). This makes sure they aren't unknowingly bringing the virus, which can seem like a common cough in adults, into their home. About being spokesperson, Kerri says, " Like any parent, I would do anything to protect my baby, and that is why I followed my pediatrician’s recommendation to get the pertussis vaccine myself. I am very excited to be working with PKIDs to spread the word and help other parents learn how to best protect their babies from this deadly but preventable disease." The campaign was launched by Parents of Kids with Infectious Diseases (PKIDs).

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Takes Early Maternity Leave The View co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck announced to Barbara Walters last ight that she will be taking her maternity leave a bit early to prepare for her baby, to be born in three weeks. She's likely to temporarily leave the show next Wednesday to go to Arizona with husband Tim Hasselbeck, who just signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Elizabeth will return to the show next season. This will be the couple's second child.
