Celebrity Mom Gwyneth Paltrow Battled Postpartum Depression
If you have suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of your child, you are not alone. Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed in an interview for the May edition of Vogue magazine that she suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth to her second child, Moses, in March 2006. postpartum depression is a condition that can develop anytime within one year after giving birth and causes symptoms such as exhaustion, insomnia, anxiety, and, well, depression. Paltrow stated that she was unaware of what she was going through during the time and only realized she had suffered from postpartum depression after she had recovered from the symptoms. In her interview, the 35-year-old actress described her experience saying, "I felt really out of my body. I felt really disconnected. I felt really down… I felt pessimistic." Paltrow believes she developed the condition because she had ceased her usual acupuncture treatments during her pregnancy with her son. However, a recent study, published earlier this year in the Journal of Clinical Nursing, has shown a link between the sex of your baby and the development of postpardum depression. In most countries women develop the condition after giving birth to a boy, which hints towards a mother's preference for girls. However, in countries such as China, where the birth of a boy is more desired, women develop the condition after giving birth to a girl.
