Hey all. I was at a conference over the weekend and went to a presentation on working mothers and thought I would share. I was quite surprised to learn that, even after controlling for occupation and experience, women make 5% less for each child that they have. Also, the presentation discussed a series of studies that found that employers perceive women as being less competent after having a child. The same was not true for men...men are actually evaluated better by their employers after having a child, because they're seen as not only being competent, but also a "nice guy" too. It was sooo depressing. :(
