In my state you have to be liscensed to run a daycare out of your house. Housing, pets, emergency exits etc.., all need to be approved. When it comes to having more kids, I beleive because its a business, you are aloud to take the time off. I know the daycares around me get paid vacations and such. |

I would most certainly get liscensed and such. I just don't know what you would do with the kids you are watching when you have another baby. Parents count on you just as they do big day care facilities. Would I have to find someone to watch them or let them figure something out themselves. Is that really fair to them? |

Actually my daycare mom is watching two additional kids right now because her cousin's daycare is closed because she just had a baby of her own and she's closed for 8 wks. This happens a lot in our town and basically you have 9 months to find another daycare while yours is on leave. Normally it isn't a problem but when you have a child under 18 months it's hard because in my county they're only allowed two children under this age. There's always room for toddlers but not infants. I had to find my daycare as soon as I found out I was pg and then changed my mind after she was born and I got lucky and a girl in town was just opening her daycare and had an infant opening. I think you won't have any problem finding kids or if you have more children, parents know ahead of time to find a temporary daycare. I thought about it but my friend does it and it's just too much work and you don't get much time to yourself and you're really tied down to being home all the time. |

my friend runs a daycare and just had a baby 2 weeks ago. She just let all the moms know that she was taking 6 weeks off, and gave them some suggestions of other home daycares in the area. It's hard for the parents, but that's a risk you run when your babysitter is a young woman I guess. |

I do home daycare. I have for 2 years. I am currenlty 21 weeks pregnant. I told my parents as soon as I found out I was pregnant that I would be taking 6 weeks off. They have all found alternate care for those 6 weeks already except for one child. Its just life, something everyone has to deal with. I am not charging them anything for the time I am off... I dont agree with doing that, they will probably have to pay for their other care. I have saved up $3000 for the 6 weeks I am off. My only hope is that they all come back. It does take a lot to set up a day care though. It took me about 6 months as I had no children of my own and no child care things. I am liscensed, which is actually pretty easy to do... at least in KS. |
