Ok I posted before about having problems with one nipple - and it started to heal now today as i was pumping it ripped open again and everything was full of blood so i am wondering what happens if I give that side a break for say 24 hrs .. i know i will get engorged but i can try and put cool packs on it although i know that may stop me making milk. So if i do that can I get the milk back in that breast if it does stop producing milk there OR can i breastfeed on one side and be able to supply my daughter enough milk? has anyone else had to do this? i dont know what else to do everytime i pump i am irritating it again and if i let her nurse directly its even worse.. its like one step forward and two steps back ... im very frustrated cause this is what i want to do .. any advice?

Hi Sprinkles, I have used nipple cream right from the start and it has really helped me a lot. I have never had bloody nipples. They have been sore every once in a while but I just re apply more cream and it really helps with the throbbing and soreness. The one I found the best for me was Lansinoh it has purple packaging and goes on the nicest especially if you are sore. I wouldn't use cold clothes on it for fear or stopping the milk but maybe a hot shower while massaging the breast and nipple so it can drip or spray out without force will help it heal and keep your milk at the same time. I have been having some trouble with my 4 month old as well and I sometimes take a quick hot shower just before feeding so it comes a little easier and that may be an idea as well. I have also used hot compresses just before feeding and that works too. Good luck

Oh ouch Sprinkles! I've been lucky with my dd and now my ds, so I really don't have much advice. Thats a good idea with taking a break for a day, maybe jumping in the shower after each feed, so you can hand express at least a little milk to try and keep it going. Seems like your supply in that breast may take a little dip but compared to bleeding it's worth the risk as you can bring your supply up again. Have you tried getting on the la leche league forum to see if others have had this problem and what they did?

It got better .. and the supply did dwindle for a day or so but it came back up .. so it worked out i just have to be careful not to pump too much and when i do use the better pump so it dont mess it up again .. I will check that website out though for more info cause i have a bunch of issues all the time lol thanks!
