My baby just turned 1 month. I have been breastfeeding exclusively and I don't seem to be losing any weight, is this normal? I heard it is suppose to just fall off when you are breastfeeding, but I am staving all the time so I don't see how I would ever lose any weight. Please help.

mmmm, I wish I could cheer you up, but I am 4 months pp, I am breastfeeding, have been dieting and started exercising last week and still have 20 pounds from the 26 I gained with the pregnancy. My son was almost 6 lbs so, makes no sense. Apparently some women lose weight once they stop breastfeeding, and since I plan to do it for a couple more months I still need to hope it´s true.

Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling that is going to happen to me. I really don't produce alot of milk so I thought that maybe had something to do with it. Do you know?

Naw, I produce liters, still doesn´t help. But if your milk production (or amount thereof) is a concern, I´d ask... are you drinking enough fluids?

I drink tons of water. I think I produce enough milk - just not any extra.

So I´d say you are doing fine. Maybe we are not in the "Kate Hudson´s" group but in the one called "Nine months to put it on, nine months to take it off!".

It falls off for some women and not for others. I lost 75 lbs -- 66 of it baby -- by 4 months postpartum, to the horror of my midwife (and I apologize if I make anyone feel bad). Making milk takes about 20 calories to make one ounce, so if you have an average baby drinking about 30 ounces a day, which depends on their age and appetite, you are burning 600 calories in that, which is equivalent to a large apple and a sandwich. Try reducing what you eat a little bit and see if you start noticing a difference. I also walked all the time, as DS was so incredibly fussy that I couldn't sit down other than to nurse for the first 6 months!! But mother nature won't let some women drop weight while nursing, and you guys are the ones who would probably keep your supply if there was a food supply problem, like a disaster, unlike people like me who are rail thin and have no reserves!

I lost a ton of weight the first few weeks but I don't attribute it to breastfeeding. Once I went back to work at 6 weeks and was able to eat again I stopped losing. I was so exhausted the first 6 weeks and sleep meant more to me than food. Anyway, my doctor told me that your metabolism is higher when breastfeeding but if you eat more calories than you burn you will not lose weight really fast. I just weaned my son at 13 months and I have finally been able to stick to a diet again and have lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks. 10 more pounds and I'll be back to where I was when I got pregnant. Yeah.
