Has anyone had success curing candida/yeast when only treating the mother, not the baby? First of all, let me say that my lactation consultant is not 100% sure I have yeast, but she suspects it. I am using "Dr. Newmans All Purpose Nipple Ointment" (see http://www.kellymom.com/new
man/c-candida_protocol.html
)
for a few days now. My baby shows no signs of thrush, and our pediatrician's position is to not treat a symptomless baby. The pediatrician said that the baby is getting some of the anti-fungal ointment each time he nurses. My symptoms are inflamed nipples and deep breast pain. Have any of you had success curing yeast this way, and if so how long did it take? I also just got a list of recommended supplements to try (grapefruit seed extract, garlic, acidophilis, B complex), but I have not gotten them yet.

Yeast is a tough one when nursing because to kill it you have to limit the amount of carbs you take in which isn't good because baby needs lots of milk. I have had candida overgrowth in the past when I wasn't nursing I tried the Yeast Busters system which worked great and tasted awful! Right now all I take is a citrus seed extract supplement and I try not to eat a lot of refined flours or sugars. I just eat whole grains. Just that has been keeping it under control. I found this article for you http://www.mothering.com/articles/new_b

I hope it's helpful.

Thanks, April. I was able to link to the article by going to mothering.com. I was treated with antibiotics at birth due to group B strep, so maybe that is what caused it. My main concern is that the ped doesn't believe in treating my son because he has no symptoms. I still hope that all of the things I am doing will clear it up!

you have to treat both as even if baby doesnt have it they will have the yeast and pass it back and forth, ive had it.
