I have read that it is safe to continue breastfeeding while suffering from food poisoning so that's not my question... but I am having a terrible time keeping anything down including liquids so I am worried that my supply will diminish. I'm drinking electrolytes and water as much as possible to ward off dehydration but I've been sick for two days now and just this evening my milk seems less than normal. Any suggestions?

If you are able to keep most of the liquid down just keep doing what you are doing - drinking LOTS - & unfortunately you'll just have to wait it out until your feeling better. I had food poisoning when ds was about 6mths & I was devastated at the thought of having to put him on a bottle as my milk was quickly drying up due to my dehydration & he was getting VERY frustrated at not getting much milk. Fortunately I rang a lactation consultant & she was sooooo encouraging, advising me NOT to supplement feed or at least do it as a last resort (or my milk would definitely dry up). As long as ds was still feeding (even if I wasn't letting down or making much) it would still stimulate my supply & it would boost back to normal once my body started to get better. She also suggested light pumping if he wouldn't feed so that my supply was still stimulated. I was lucky that he was at an age when he was eating some solids anyway & would take sips of water, so I didn't feel like I was completely starving him. She was right, once I started keeping more down & gaining my strength back, by supply picked up & I was once again letting down for him. He is now 13mths & still bf. How old is your lo?

Thank you for the encouragement. My girl is 5.5 months. I ate a half a piece of toast about 15 mins ago and so far so good, so maybe I'm pulling out of this!! I'm going to keep at it like you suggested and pray this passes soon so my kiddo isn't starving :( Just this week we started on cereal with her (but with breast milk) so like you that makes me feel a little better for the state of her tummy. Again thanks!
