Help! my boobs hurt soooo bad. Its a burning sensation that keeps charging through my boobs randomly. Last night my right boob was aching and then it felt like I had a clogged duct or something but I took a hot bath and messaged it out and it felt like it empties. All day I have been making sure that my son feeds on that side first, but now both my boobs are getting those sharp burning like sensations and it hurts.......any body know whats going on and what I can do.

It sounds like you might have a yeast infection. Though I am no expert...so maybe someone else can give you some insight. If it is a yeast infection, you will need to see a doctor so that both you and the baby can be treated. Otherwise you will infect the baby and then the baby will infect you. It is a vicious cycle. Until you get to the dr, you really need to be diligent about washing your hands after touching your breasts. Otherwise, you could spread the yeast to your private areas, your husbands or to your child. Look in your baby's mouth for a white film on the tongue and roof of the mouth. You may also see a "rash" on the baby's bottom that does not seem to go away after a 24 hr treatment with diaper creme. If the baby does not appear to have it yet, keep up the clean hands regiment and consider sterilizing bottle nipples and pacifiers if you use them. I did not have much burning sensation, so I can't give you any hints on how to releave the pain. If you can't get to the dr, I would at least pick up some yogurt (with active bacteria) and eat it to reintroduce the good bacteria into your system. Be careful to observe how your baby reacts after nursing...if the baby becomes fussy several hours later, he may not be tolerant of yogurt. In which case you will have to stop eatting it. This is not an emergency, but you should at least call your dr as soon as you tomorrow or Monday to consult about the problem. Anyone else have any ideas what this could be?

Causes
You may have a history of vaginal thrush, recent antibiotic use and/or nipple damage.

Symptoms
The most common symptom is nipple pain and/or breast pain.

Nipple thrush pain is often described as burning, itching, or stinging and may be mild to severe. The pain is usually ongoing and is not resolved with improved positioning and attachment of your baby to the breast. Your nipples may be tender to touch and even light clothing can cause pain.

Breast thrush pain can vary. It has been described as a stabbing or shooting pain, a deep ache or a burning sensation that radiates through the breast. It may be present in one or both breasts.

It is characteristic for this pain to be experienced both immediately after and between feeds.
Signs
There are usually no obvious signs of thrush on your nipples. However some signs may be present and include:

the nipple/s may appear bright pink; the areola may be reddened, dry or flaky. Rarely a fine white rash may be seen
nipple damage (eg a crack), which is slow to heal
signs of thrush may be present in your baby's mouth and/or on your baby's bottom. Thrush in the mouth appears as a thick white coating on the tongue and/or white spots on the inside of the cheeks. Thrush on the baby's bottom appears as a bright red rash with spots around it which does not clear without anti-fungal treatment.
Once the diagnosis of thrush in either you or your baby is confirmed by your lactation consultant or other health professional, it is essential that both you and your baby be treated.

THANK YOU SO MUCH> I plan to call the doctor tomorrow and see if she can call me in a rx. I have been eating yogurt for a while.....My boobs hurt so bad and I so appreciate you taking the time to answer me. I would have never guessed, but baby does have a white film in his mouth.....he has had it for a few weeks, I thought it was milk.

well doctor called me in prescription for nystatin cream and nystatin for my son. But she said the pain that I described was not from the yeast infection, though my son has thrush and I have it on my breasts. Im not engorged. She said possibly hormonal or let down adjusting... any body have any ideas?
