I am 23 weeks, I want to breast feed but I don't know how long I should? Any advice. If everything is going well and nothing is in my way of doing it then when should I stop breast feeding. When the child is 6 months? Longer?

It is really a personal choice; whichever works best for you and baby. Some babies stop completely on their own while others will want it forever...mine little girl was 2+. My next baby I plan on weaning at around 1 year. As far as what is best for baby nutritionally, emotionally, intellectually, I have read some many different views. I say, go with the flow! No pun intended :) Best of luck to you!

Yes, in the States you often hear that most of the benefits from breastfeeding come during the first six weeks, but that sounds a bit short to me. I stopped at 6 mos with the 1st and 9 mos with the second. I know people who have breastfed until 2+ and points in between.
