I just started breast feeding my DS yesterday, it took me 10 days since he was born to get him to latch on!! But now im worried he's not getting enough milk! He will nurse for an hour straight!!! and never stops! He slept really well last night, but it seems this morning he just wants to keep nursing!! I'm worried i dont have enough milk and he's just sucking without getting any milk!!! I wish we had meters on our boobs so we know how much they are getting!!!!! hehehe, any advice?????????????????????????

All of the nursing will stimulate milk production...which is great. Just so you know, it may take some babies a long time to nurse while others get it done in minutes. My dd took FOREVER to nurse that first 2 months. By month 3, we both finally got our act together and she has it down to a matter of minutes. Be patient. If the baby keeps falling asleep, try to cool him by taking off some layers. If dd appeared to stop nursing, I would unlatch her so that she did not get too used to her human pacifier! Your best bet is to keep track of wet and dirty diapers. Is he having enough? I had to keep a log book of when I feed, for how long, and when I changed diapers (good potties? or not). I was too exhausted to remember everything. After a few days, I could start to see what was "normal" for my baby and what wasn't. I suggest you do the same. I am proud that you were able to get him to latch.

thanks so much kellens mom! I feel so proud of myself aswell! after 10 days of no breast feeding, i felt sooooooooo wonderfull that i actually got him to do it!!! takes A LOT of patience! I dont know how his diapers are yet, cause he did have a poopy diaper last night, but yesterday was the first day he started BFing, so he did have a little formula yesterday morning. for today he's had a little pee pee diapers but not to much, i think i just gatta wait and see, now that today is the first day i have exclusively bf'n!!!!!

I didn't exclusively breastfeed Ethan until he was 10 days old. At 1st he would stay n the breast for up to an hour as well. After my supply established itself his boob time decreased to about 20 minutes. The older he got, the less..now he can get all he needs in 5 minutes sometimes !!!! Good Luck and I am soo happy to hear you persisted !!!! As long as he has many wet diapers and nice yellow mustard-like poohs....your doing fine !

That's great that you are doing this :) I had problems with my girl too. She had to supplement feed formula from 3 days old to 10 days old. I would bf her, then give her an ounce of formula. I really didn't want her to have formula at all, but she had lost over a pound of her birthweight. She is now 6 wks old and is a whopping 10lbs 10oz (up from 7lbs 15oz at birth). She is a slow eater like yours it sounds like. I've been letting her suck for as long as she likes whenever she likes. SOmetimes it's been two hours at a time. But she is getting shorter feeds now and I'm really glad I stuck with it! Quite a few women supported me on this site when my family wanted me to keep formula feeding her - so keep at it! You can do it :)
