I don't know what's going on. I think if formula came out of my breast instead of breastmilk my girl would be thrilled. Just for the last few days, whenever I breastfeed my 6 week old daughter, she spits up a lot afterward, then of course she's hungry again in about 30 minutes, so we try formula and that goes down wonderfully. I thought it was something I ate that wasn't sitting right with her stomach, so I cut out some things like beans, onions, mexican (I thought it was mild when I ate it, but she could've thought otherwise), and yesterday I had an omlet and a grilled chicken sandwich and she still spit up the breastmilk, whether it's in a bottle or straight from the boob. Do I need to just go to crackers and water and still see if she's spitting up breastmilk? I just don't understand why the formula would be settling better on her stomach, because she used to spit formula up everytime, and now she doesn't.

Personally, I think you have absolutely no reason to give her formula. Babies spit up - it's just something they do. My dd spit up all the time until she was about 2.5 months old. Now she still spits up, but nothing like in the beginning (she's 3.5 months). I learned that it had nothing to do with what I was or wasn't eating but just her belly growing and her getting used to how much she can take down at once. It may just be a fluke that with formula the few times you tried it she didn't spit up. As long as you bf exclusively, you know she's getting absolutely everything she needs. She'll be hungry all the time in the beginning because she's growing so much. Don't forget that breastmilk is much easier to digest than formula, so she absorbs it faster and will get hungrier sooner than with formula. If you want to bf, cut out the formula and just follow your dd's cues (feed on demand). Unless she's throwing up - and by that I mean projectile vomit - you have nothing to be concerned about.

Also - don't forget the usual tactics - burp her during and after feedings, don't sit her up or lay her on her belly immediately after eating, let the food settle, etc.

I can not eat mexican, onion (especially none of these!), beans and now...egg sandwiches. Kellen flat out refuses to nurse if I eat these items. I guess it is her way of letting me know that they hurt her. I was surprised by the egg thing...since she seems fine with eatting eggs cooked in recipes. Maybe she is trying to tell you that they upset her stomach. I am really going to splurge for a while with my eatting choices when I am done BFing! Mexican - yum, yum
