Hey everyone! Im currently 30 weeks pregnant today! Im just wondering how many of you started storing your milk before the baby came? I have milk in my boobs and was thinking mabye now is a good time to start pumping and saving my milk so i am ahead of the game the time my baby arrives! :) does this sound weird? Ive never heard of this before....! Any comments would help!

I don't think you can. Once your placenta is removed your body releases a hormone that starts milk production. I had a little milk before I had my daughter but it didn't amount to anything. I tried hand pumping but only a little bit would come out. It takes a few days before your milk comes in even after your baby is born. All you produce is colostrum which is like liquid gold to your baby. You won't even want to pump after the baby is born right away. They suggest waiting 6 wks so your supply is built up. You don't want to pump and take away from the baby. I didn't start for 6 wks and I still didn't get a lot till later on. Good luck!

also pumping before you give birth can cause contractions and u to go into premature labor. Definitely wait for babys' arrival.

You don't have milk in your breasts until a few days after you give birth, what you have in your breasts right now is colostrum, and everything I have heard/read says not to try and express this as it could cause you to go into premature labor. It may leak out, but don't try to express it.
