I am 19 in a week and have a 15 month old girl. I was seventeen when I gave birth and I went to a Young Mothers School. I was the only girl in there who breastfed and I was able to do it right in class. Breastfeeding was very difficult in the beginning and I have had many obstacles including excruciating pain. I almost gave up but my husband and mother convinced me not to. I feel it has all been worth it and helped me be responsible for my daughter. My daughter is so attached to me and she is allergic to cows milk so that is why I am still nursing in the first year. Is there any other moms still nursing after 1? I sometimes feel like I am the only one.

My ds is only 6 weeks old, so I haven't had the chance to nurse him that long, but I wanted to say good for you! You overcame some big obstacles and put your daughter first, and I'm sure she will always benefit from the care and effort you're putting in to raising her.

I am nursing a toddler. My daughter is 20 and a half months, and still nursing 4-5 times per day. The WHO recommends nursing til 2 years, and for as long thereafter as desired by both mother and child. And no, that doesn't just apply to 3rd world countries. Good for you for continuing to give your little one the greatest gift a mother has to give, the best nutrition for a healthy start on life. Keep it up!!!

Your commitment and dedication are to be commended! It sounds like you have really stepped up and are a very responsible young woman. Don't let peer pressure push you into not nursing. Think about what is right for you and your baby...then make decisions. You'll know in your heart when it is time to wheen. Best of luck.

Good for you! I am 19 also, my daughter is only 3 months old but she is bottle stubborn and absolutely refuses it. I plan on nursing her until she is at least 18 months old. (but maybe just at bedtime) Good job, it was really hard for me at first too but now I really like it, its very convinient and its the best thing you can do for them!

Thanks so much. I feel a lot better. I am going to continue breastfeeding until my daughter lets me know she is ready to give it up. Which I believe will happen after not too long. But I truly believe it is the best decision I have made as a mother. Thanks for the support!
