ok.. here goes... My right breast is a lot smaller and produces far lesser milk than my left breast. I hear that if one breast is making more milk than the other, it will be much bigger even after baby is weaned from the breast. the thing here is that if i nurse him only on my left, he will have enough. but i don't want my right getting smaller and smaller while the left increases in size. what shld I do? I tried pumping after feeding him on my right to increase it's supply and tried not pumping my left even when i feel pretty uncomfortably full to decrease it production. does anyone have this problem too? My baby is 4.5 mths and i didn't have this problem til recently.

don't worry - mine is too. im not sure why this is, but i have spoken to other women with the same dilema. my baby is 6 weeks old and its always been the case with my right breast producing far less. it may just be normal, i am guessing. so many have this, so it just might be.

I would keep using the right side and pumping it also. In my experience it didn't help the size, however it did help with the supply somewhat. They will even out after the baby is weaned, in time.

I have heard this many times before. I produce far more from my right than I do my left. My left is also much smaller. I was just curious, what hand do you favor? I am left handed and think that makes a difference.

Kathryn, I'm right handed and my left was larger and had more milk.

i am lefthanded and use my right hand to massage my left breast. i asked my mother last night if she could remember with us, and she also said her right breast produced less and was preferred least by us. who knows, but it's interesting to see others with the same problem...

i'm right handed. Been tring to pump more from right breast but not more than 4 oz compared to the left where I get at least 7oz

I had this same problem for the first few months -- the breast that pre-pregnancy was smaller became larger and more milk-producing after I had my baby. I was advised to always start my baby on my smaller breast thus making her "work" for the milk at the beginning of the feed and after some time, it seemed to work -- they evened out.

im expressing for our premature bub who is in the special care nursery still.. i can express around 20mls from my left breast and 50mls from my right breast.. i was worried but my mum has assured me that its alright... must keep using the breast with the least milk no matter what otherwise its milk supply will cease.... is this true?

ya try to pump the same amount of milk from both breasts. pump the side with lesser first then pump the same amount with the side that has more..
it will even out.. or rather, the difference will not be too big. good luck! And kare-keep pumping!! you bub will benefit a lot form your milk. it's when babies are premature that they need mother's milk most.
